- The classic Revolution Schwarzkopf looping coaster has been transformed into The New Revolution Virtual Reality Coaster and here's a look at what it's like when you ride the coaster without a VR headset, since wearing them is optional.
Six Flags Magic Mountain is located north of Los Angeles in Valencia, California.

That "commentary" behind the camera sucks.
Flaffstar And you would win the bet!
+Gonso96 This was filmed during the media preview event, so people were being filmed while mic'd up and describing what was happening during their ride just like we did in the Virtual Reality ridercam video we posted: ruclips.net/video/bvidtGujC6Y/видео.html
+CoasterForce Don't worry, I know they are not related to CoasterForce. You guys don't usually talk during rides. ;)
+Gonso96 Tpr does Commentary not Coasterforce ( No hate towards any of them I love both)
+Gonso96 Ahhh, where is your sense of humor? If CF thought it sucked, they obviously wouldn't have posted this video......so lighten up.
The unnecessary screaming and mindless commentary makes watching these videos abnoxious
+Shannon Draicchio Just turn your volume down.
Dylan Lastname: Then you don't get the natural roller coaster sounds. That's not a good solution.
100th like
they were wearing the VR glasses so it makes it more intense so u cant really blame them..
@@colt-one Well then you are just gonna have to list emm to it bitch.
"Put heads against headrests". What a useful sign on the VR rollercoaster.
+Luke Hart The VR is optional. So there are people who can see that sign.
+Planet SIX So I guess there's a notification in the VR?
+Luke Hart no, there isn't.
+Planet SIX So how would the VR people know to put their heads back?
+Luke Hart By having common sense.
On top of that, you don't absolutely need to place your head against the headrest during that loop.
Revolution was the first "loop" rollercoaster ride I EVER went on at 8 years old lol I will never forget waiting in line butterflies in my tummy, nervous about going upside down for the first time lol 🙃✌️
I went on it when I was 6 man I'm like 8yrs old right now and I'm turning 9 in 7 days so I am good I went on x2 this year
@@geometryboom9966 nice I went on it when I was 10 first looping
@@treytweytrey me to lol
It was the first successful loop coaster ever!
@@janetmarlena6815 that's so awesome it was the first loop coaster & it was almost my personal first loop coaster 😁🙌
Roller roasters always look far less scary on video than real life
Agreed
+Alfey Ice king agreed 🙁
That's because its 40 years old
*coaster
No joke there.
The guys in the background are so annoying
"Omg the insurance companys are gonna make me pay for that spaceship i destroyed.
I think they were pretty funny.
mastroga21 ok let me see you do better
Yep
Cause VR
3 minutes of riding brakes.
SNJ lol
SNJ i know right?
Great scenery...rct2
LOL 😂
Welcome to Roller Coasters of the 1970s.
I was 13 years old when this ride opened. I still remember walking into the park and seeing this enormous loop. Lots of good memories with this coaster.
Yeah, same here!
I remember this rollercoaster from the movie "Rollercoaster", amazing to see how the landscape has changed in the last 35-40 years between the movie and this video.
It is the whipper snapper from Vacation with Chevy Chase.
Most parks get rid of rides after 20 years or so for various reasons I Wonder why this one is still going?
@@bradmefford5621 it is a landmark now. It is a part of the ACE of coasters. Plus it's been featured in movies especially the classic Rollercoaster in 1977 with George Segal.
Exactly I'm in awe at the change in landscape from 1977 to now. I kind of miss how it was open without the vegetation around. It shows how time and life marching on 😔
@@bradmefford5621 It’s an important piece of roller coaster history, as the first modern ride to successfully add a vertical loop, which is also why it’s an ACE landmark
New record for most trims
looks like it's still over braked
I agree. It was a turn off actually.
Anthony Martinez I agree, too. The brakes should've been lessened somewhat. At least the shoulder restraints are gone.
Yeah it's like every hill has brakes at the crest
This ride is very VERY old it has the first VERTICAL loop in the world
@@a_cowwithlegs haha no. Go look up centrifugal railway. Loopings have been around for much longer than this ride
it seems people forgot this was the first coaster with a 360 degree loop. now it's being tarnished with virtual reality crap
First steel coaster with a vertical loop
Then dont use the VR dumbass.
*first steel coaster with a non spherical vertical loop
@@athing8846 they used to idiot
Trim brakes too.
VR is just a sign that we are liking technology too much, I just like coasters the way they are.
To play Devil's Advocate a bit, though, this ride is over 40 years old now, and while I'm sure it was insane back in the day, it was the first ride at Magic Mountain I went on. Today, the VR was disabled, and while it was more intense than usual as a result, it was really very tame. Disneyland's Thunder Mountain Railroad is probably more intense than this. It left me wanting more out of the experience. They wanted to breathe new life into this old classic, and VR is how you do that. You can also request to ride without VR, too, so everybody wins. I have yet to try it without VR, but I imagine it'd make the whole thing a better experience... unless, of course, it makes me sick, as 3D glasses tend to do that to me.
Sam17 ikr, I hate VR
Sam17 You are absolutely correct! I’m a late forties “retired” coaster enthusiast who can’t begin to comprehend why riders would want the purity and thrill of a beautiful coaster experience tainted with artificial visuals. No different than going to a concert or movie and constantly staring down at your precious I-Phone. Cmon people; stop and “smell the roses”! Life goes fast Trust me.
I agree
Sam17 ikr!
Revolution will always be a staple to Magic Mountain. Great ride with or without the VR experience. Always a great ride and a "must ride" anytime you visit. Solid classic coaster to socal.
You dudes were annoying af lol
+bergercookie You do know that wasn't us, right?
+CoasterForce absolutely 100% I knew it wasn't because your crew barely makes a peep when you film these rides . Very professional the best 👌🏻
Of course i know it wasn't you folks, Coaster Force. :)
Why would Coaster Force be obnoxious on New Revolution, but be silent on every other ride?
Just went on this ride over the weekend. It's incredible. Great way to save an aging ride. Six Flags has done it again. First with Twisted Colossus and now the Revolution. Love it! Edits: You can ride without the glasses. They even have a special line for people that don't want to wear them. It was about an hour wait for people that wanted VR and I didn't see a single person go thru the no VR line where you could walk on the ride if you wanted.
01:22: surely riders wearing the VR headsets won't see that safety sign?
The ride doesn't even have headrests anymore, so the sign is unnecessary
+John Jaskiewicz the ride does have headrests, not over the shoulder restraints anymore.
+John Jaskiewicz Yes, it has headrests.
Thanks for having the POV go all the way into the station. I think for us nerds, a pov should ALWAYS end when the train come back into the station - not on the break run.
It should've been called The New Revolution of Brake Runs, jeez...
Revolution was my first, grown up roll coaster... and I still love it until this day❤❤❤
This is the final scene (climax) rollercoaster from the movie "Rollercoaster" (1977). In the movie they were all excited about the loop.
These guys need to stop talking. Sort of ruined the experience.
Then go to the fucking park
theres this thing called not watching if u dont like it
broken volume controls?

So many trims
you know, if they already wanted to "repair" it, THEY COULD HAVE ATLEAST TOOK OFF THE EXCESSIVE TRIMS.
Silver Arrow Photography they did get rid of the OTSR
The excessive trims seem to be heavily catered for the VR experience. Speaking of that, I wonder if they've given up on the VR headsets on this by now.
The guys screaming in the background 😂😂
Interesting to see this after seeing it in the movie ‘Rollercoaster’ from 1977. Same pov in movie as this but there hardly any trees or additional coasters.
It was a totally different park then. I went on it as my first coaster in 1976 after it opened and there were no trees. The only other coasters Magic Mountain had were Gold Rusher and Mountain Express (now long gone). Besides the coasters, they had the Log Jammer, Jetstream, Electric Rainbow, bumper cars, the Sky Tower and a few other small rides.
The Revolution is Six Flags Magic Mountain's definitive ride and a classic. True the newer rides top this one with regard to intensity, but it's a classic. I was a kid in the 80's and would go to Magic Mountain a few times a year and this ride was one of the scariest rides because it went upside down. When entering the park as you make your way into the main plaza , the Revolution's Giant White Loop towers above directly in front of you which serves as the perfect icon for the thrills you are about experience through out the day. Magic Mountain wouldn't be the same without this ride and I'm very glad it's still there.
I haven't rode this one...yet. However, I DID ride the Sooper Dooper Looper at Hershey Park and it is kind of a smaller sister coaster to this one. It also features the track going through the loop. Glad to see that both coasters are still around today as they were pioneers in looping coasters. The Sooper Dooper Looper, like all early Schwartzkopf loop coasters, didn't have the over shoulder restraints. The first coaster I rode that was like this was the Scorpion at Busch Gardens, Tampa. THAT is also still there. Goes to show that these coasters stood the test of time.
I like how they didn't rip all of the trees out and built it right into the natural setting.
this ride is quite old all the trees grew in around the ride
I thought they would've removed some of the trims. Still, does look smoother than before.
Silver Arrow Photography where the over the shoulder restrains not removed when it became the "new" revolution?
The coaster looks a whole lot better now! The trains make it so much smoother, lots of landscaping has been done to make the coaster look refreshed instead of making it being worn out in the trees, and that paint job is amazing too :) Although I'd like to see the air brakes be removed and also the train slows down too often going through the track. Other than that, this ride is much better :)
The chain lift has a sick beat
I grew up at SFMM during the summers from 79-85 and Revolutions lift hill is permanently etched in my mind.
Gosh those guys in the back were annoying 😞
they were wearing VR
It’s the VR set dumbass
"Such a bad day for insurance companies". Cracked me up
No.
Me too lol
I feel like I'm the only one who found the guy screaming hilarious
That’s the only good part
so I see they kept all the trim brakes. in either case, great ride. such a legendary roller coaster. I sure hope this stays around for many more years to come.
@1:22 There is something so charming about the gradual decent down a straight, slight decline that leads into the loop.
Well I'm glad they kept the ride as it's been there pretty much forever, but I really dislike this whole VR thing for the ride. I get it, it's called "Revolution" and they're trying to revolutionize the ride, but just like any other classic ride, it's best preserved in it's original form for people to appreciate it's true classic beauty.
FroZteeCoasterZ actually right now for a limited time they are running it without the vr and calling it "Classic Revolution"
Amrep dude499 oh nice! I also heard that the vr is an option which is nice :).

Look at the shadow of the camera-rig...
Yes, ha.
Max S. Where do I look
Max S. Ooh now I see it
Tryvonix the train
Basically two gopros mounted to the front.
They did this to the shockwave here in six flags over Texas too! So amazing
Thank all so much for letting me ride Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia,CA it was fantastic I've see the coaster on TV and in the movie RollerCoaster which is celebrating it's 40 th anniversary this year and this coaster made it's debut in the movie and to this day the Revolution like the Racer at Kings Island in Ohio is the symbol of our park this coaster is the symbol of Magic Mountain in California. Again thank you all for riding the Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California from Dayton,Ohio
Beautiful ride... too many brakes.
They should have REALLY restored the ride to the way it was when it opened. Those new trains look so corny.
+YesYou123333 I"m disappointed in the trains, too. They should've gone with the original design without headrests.
+Tommy Lamm They'd already purchased the sign that said "Place Heads Against Headrests," so they had to go with it.
+V. Anton Spraul The headrests are just part of the problem.
they most certainly did not just repaint the old trains. The new trains look nothing like the old, standard, Schwarzkopf trains.
YesYou123333 Ya, they look like they are made of plastic!
To those complaining of overbreaking: its a 70s coaster that still exists, the first coaster with a loop, it's a piece of history. Of course it was not designed with today's knowledge and experience. The "overbreaking" is what keeps this coaster from tearing itself apart without making radical design changes.
That's a awesome rollercoaster .I'm driving up there this year to ride this...gonna travel from texas. ...we got 2 six flags here that are great...But magic mountain is the mecca of Amusement parks...gotta go at least once in your life
Unfortunately all the trim breaks are still in place (nearly stopping the ride before the loop, and the one after the tunnel). I guess my expectations were too high.
I went on it a number of times after it opened and I don't remember trim brakes after the tunnel at all. That last helix after the tunnel was one of the most intense parts of the ride. And I am pretty sure they had trim brakes before the loop, but they didn't almost stop the ride like in the video. It pulled nearly 5 G's in the loop and it was hard to keep my hands up.
And they lost the crappy over the shoulder restraints they added in the 90's and went back to just having the lap belt.
I laughed because of how dumb the guys were
how are they dumb? theyre just being silly and making commentary about the vr
@@crudkip4326 i didnt mean it as an insult
This video made the ride look easy and I just went on this coaster in real life it was super fun a bit ruff but for my first looping coaster I have to say this was awesome I recommend if you ever for to this park that you should go on this ride!
This looks like a really nice ride.
the ride slowed down so many times when the guys began to get excited they immediately got quiet cause the ride would slow down lol .. Great ride for beginners though
Jesus, so many unnecessary trim brakes. They killed the potential air time on the tops of those hills. :(
Always liked the station design on this coaster. Watching this makes me think of “National Lampoons Vacation” and “Rollercoaster” movies. Trimmed or not this is a really cool ride and I’m sorry I don’t live closer.
Pretty smooth, a good coaster for newbies
too many breaks...sigh
I rode it waaaayy back in the day (1977 and 1978) and it did seem that they added some brakes (or at least they were making more use of the ones that may have always been there. Usually, you'd get a brake right after the final turn when you were on the straightaway to pull into the station. Often, that brake was the worst part of the whole ride as it was rather abrupt. Seems like they toned it down now. Then you had the one as you arrived at the loading area. Must have been a busy day, as usually there was a train not in use on those side tracks just before you got into the station (I remember them running 5 trains with a sixth on the storage tracks). So either they run all 6, or they just have 5 now.
Quite irritating with the ones screaming like they were about to die and speak a lot of completely incomprehensible nonsense during the ride, not least because of the fact that it's a very slow roller coaster where almost nothing happens. It looks like there are a lot of bigger, more extreme roller coasters around at SF Magic Mountain. I have to check out your other videos from Magic Mountain to ride with the more extreme coasters now. Nice video, anyway. I know that it wasn't you who did record it who did irritate the viewers with screams and speaking - cause you never do that in your videos and that's great. What other riders around you do during the ride is not something you can control. And it's good that you record these coasters too, even though wilder and more extreme ones exist. Thumbs up to you, look forward to see more and you do a great job!
+supremefantastic yes, i had to mute the audio !
+supremefantastic There talking about the VR experience why are you complaining?
XxRavenwing19xX
They're talking about what experience? Didn't I mention clearly why I'm complaining? It's because they speak bullshit and make themselves look like newbies since this is a very slow ride but they try to be scared to death. In every way - very irritating.
supremefantastic
Virtual Reality smartass.
Yes but you don't even know what your complaining about.
They were wearing Virtual Reality headsets (like oculus rift) whilst riding. That's part of the new makeover. Thing of a motion simulator but on a roller coaster
Classic. I didn't like the orange coaster built all around the Revolution in some of the areas. Great video. Thanks for this!
I am so salty about missing out on this. This wasn’t open when I visited this past Summer. I was really looking forward to this.
I'm view number 666. I'm just going to say... it's looks exactly the same... but I'm sure it probably feels slightly different, but I still don't see driving all the way out there just for it...
Only thing new is the paint job right?
+Michael Tymich No. It has new lapbar-only trains, magnetic brakes and a virtual reality option as well as a refurbished station.
And also a slow ride.
And the slowest loading ride and horrible vr quality
Basically, lol track is the same set up as before
It basically fixed the part that needed fixing, getting rid of the shoulder bar and whiplash that came with it. Now they just need to make the "new viper" lol
Ah the memories. I rode it many times beginning in 1976 when it opened. It's been 20 years since I have been on the ride. Thanks for helping me relive the experience. Amazing how big those trees have grown. The drawback to this video is the running commentary by the clown in the background.
This is one of my favorites at six flags
WTF. EVERYONE GO TO 2:18. THERE IS A GUY STANDING NEXT TO THE ROLLERCOASTER
He's a maintenance worker checking the trim brakes at that location.
20JeepMan16 yeah he works there
As seen in the 1977 movie "Rollercoaster".
Still a great , very underrated film 👍
there are two versions of that film ..they had to cut some scenes 4 that movie to get a PG rating the bloody scenes were cut out so it would not get an R rating
It's also in National Lampoon's Vacation
i remember going on this for the first time a couple months ago and it was my first ride that had a loop in it. i was so scared bc i hadn’t been to an amusement park in so long. i went on it 5 times
great ride you guys... i just love going to six flags
A great video... totally ruined by all the screaming and blather. I think you may have contracted (Robb) Alvey's Disease ("Wheeeeeee!"). Sadly, no one has found a cure for Alvey's Disease, so we'll just have to mute your future posts.
dreemfinder That wasn't him, those were the people behind him.
Twisteeeeee! The ride is twisteeeeeeee!
dreemfinder You mean fat ass disease?
i think it'd be a fine coaster w/o the vr.
I miss going to Magic Mountain & I have been a ACE member for yrs now.
I rode the original Revolution that came out in 1977 when I was in either the 6th or 7th grade and I was terrified because I had never gone upside down on a rollercoaster before. But once I got used to it, it was absolute favorite ride in the whole park! I miss the original one!
*1976
Oh, OK.@@iloveappleyoutube7198
What's with all the yapping and fake screaming?
They have virtual reality headsets on.
Thats not an excuse.
I don't like that it has so many brakes
+Gustavo Sanchez ya they just need to let the ride...ride lol
That's a Schwarzkopf thing.
Glad to see its still the same
this ride was so much fun
Great idea, in theory. Horrible execution. Trains take WAY too long to load despite the fact that they had 4 or 5 staff loading and that's not including the operators or the ones cleaning gear or handing them out. Operating expenses must be outrageous. It was literally more than 8 minutes for a train to leave. Trains were leaving the station half-empty because they couldn't get the equipment syncing or couldn't hand clean the units fast enough. Maybe a combination of both. In regards to the ride, VR looks choppy. I've been a passholder for over ten years and I have to say, bad idea Six Flags. Take away the gimmick and keep it as a classic coaster.
From the start I knew this was a bad idea. Ride the roller coaster as it was meant to be. I give the whole vr thing less than 2 years
i think they just need to polish up he system. I tried on the headset, and it was great, blurry at points, but i see potential
no offense but WHO is gonna watch a 2160p 4k video when we can't even watch 1080p HD
I watch a lot of videos in 4k on my pc
My computer is able the handle 4k.
Who's we? I watch nothing but 1080p when it's available, which nowadays is pretty much always.
MagniGames people who can't render videos in 1080p because we can't afford stuff like that...
sad story bro
How many of us original Revolution gangsters remember ...when there wasn't a brake after the final curve and the train came to a hard stop at the powerhouse behind the loading train in front of it, ...then, the chain would pull you in to disembark as it push the train in front to the lift?!!! I think the trains once collided at the powerhouse and that's when they started breaking the train as soon as it came out the final curve.
rode this yesturday and i was a bit skeptical at first about the vr headset because i get motion sickness..but this experience was really fun and didnt get dizzy at all
One of the few rides that I can still ride at Magic Mountain lol.
Very realistic. CGI has really come along way. I almost can't tell that this is animated.Good job.
its real
I’m 8 and 49 inches today I’m going to magic mountain and for my first time I’m going to go on NEW revolution it looks so fun I never went on a loop before 🤩
Loved the video 😀
@1:49 I think that was the spot Timothy Bottoms was hit by the train in the movie _Rollercoaster._
I wish one of these videos that go through a loop, would turn the camera to the side. It's so much more spectacular of a view, than watching the track. You get the see the whole world do a 360 spin.
This ride is actually a decent length. I expected it to be more like the corkscrew which came at the same time but this is much better.
Revolution was the first loop i ever experienced. I had to sit in the front Alone while my brother and his friend sat in the back.
Sitting front seat of a classic rollercoaster and then wearing a VR headset. Madness.
REALY AWESOME !!!!!!! I LOVE IT !!!!!!
Its not a roller coaster without the signature “OK HERE WE GO” and “OK” and “AHHHHHHH”
That one looks like so much fun lol. One day I'll get there
"This is going to be such a bad case for the insurance company" -- Ha ha ha ha ha. That was funny
Reminds me of "National Lampoon's Vacation (The Original 1983 hit movie)" which had SNL alum Chevy Chase (Clark Griswold) and SCTV alum John Candy (Russ Lasky) on this exact same roller coaster. Clark had a BB gun pointed right at Lasky. They both went mad crazy on that ride.
This was my first ride at six flags I went yesterday and it was the first ride we saw and tbh it wasn’t even scary at all not even the loop it was really fun though if you’re scared of the big rides at six flags I recommend this ride because it’s not scary at all.
I rode this yesterday & it was alright. I don't think I would wait in line for it.
when I went the attendant was hilarious because he kept making jokes such as "What's the opposite of stop" and then started the ride from there
Yo the lift hill making a sick beat
This ride changed history.
Looks like they tightened the Giant loop. I always preferred the bigger loop compared to Vipers tight loops. Wonder 🤔 if it's better. New Revolution in all looks amazing 🤩
A classic rollercoaster from 1976.
the film "rollercoaster (1977)"was also filmed there.
My warm up ride before getting on the big rides.
This coaster was featured in the 1978 movie KISS Meets The Phantom of the Park
@Janet Not even close (in terms of years). Revolution WAS the first closed circuit looping coaster, but not THE first coaster with a loop. THE first coaster with a loop was the Flip Flap Railway which was built at Coney Island in 1895.
