Sir this is a king level video ... Thank you!!!!! I'm wondering something to put up a very powerful extender on my house roof will that have the same effect but work better? or can two mi2 be joined? I had despaired of actually getting my Xaiomi repeater working with my Tello. But after watching this (and some diligent work and a whole lot of swearing) I GOT IT WORKING! Thank you!
@@GadgetInspector Agree this was the only video that adequately explained the process. The device I got today did include instructions but they're worthless. Thanks so much for this help!!

I know it's old, but this was super helpful. Just bought a Tello ryze and the MI Wi-Fi extender, everything was explained clearly and I'm really happy.
Okay, This worked. I got my range extender in the mail yesterday from eBay. I used this video for the set up. It wasn't easy and after about 90 min last night I gave up. Today with a fresh mind I got it. And like you said once set up you don't have to do it again. It works great and my signal bars and video transmission are much improved. Tomorrow I will add my Gamesir T1d controller to the mix. and test it further. I used an Samsung S7 Phone, one thing in your video that caused me some initial confusion was that you stated you were using an Apple phone. (I just ignored that part and proceeded with your instructions.) Thank You for this video.
My Galaxy 5s didn't need a password. I got the plus on the reboot and my FPV is much smoother. I ran my route through the kitchen 3 times in a row without crashing. TY man Love your stuff..
On Android and got stuck setting it up in Mi Home, connected to my Tello but it kept timing out and wouldn't go any further. Noticed my light was blue and checked my connects and had a Tello_Plus, and it worked fine! Skipped quite a few steps, somehow it connected everything itself, but I'm okay with that! Great video dude!
thank you kind sir, for the clear and comprehensive directions. After not using the extender for several years, I wanted to get back into it, and your video was instrumental. Wishing you a blessed new year!

Thank You, a Whole bunch!!! -I was seriously discouraged, trying to get my Xiaomi Mi Wifi 2 extender, watching other "how to" vids, finally, after carefully following your clear direction, I am so very pleased that I had success with making use of the WiFi extender with my Hubsan H216A, Thank you for making this vid, -will follow and looking forward to liking more of your vids! Thanks for the video saved me LOADS of time. I found the only problem was after setup and re connecting for normal use. From another video i found this work every time. 1 power up MI extender. 2 Power up Tello then wait for the BLUE connected led on the MI extender. 3. Select wifi ####_plus on your smartphone. 4 Start Tello app and your away. Thanks again for your time putting this together.
I have seen several videos on how to connect the wifi extender to the Tello, and they're all quite difficult to understand. Perhaps, it's in the way on how they present it. But yours, it's all as clear as crystal. Thanks, Gadget Inspector!
Thanks for the great video tutorials and reviews they are a pleasure to watch because they are easy to understand. I love my Tello. For it’s size and feature set it is by far the best drone out to date. I picked mine up for $100 and it came well-equipped with the quad, extra props, three batteries, a triple battery charger and other miscellaneous odds and ends. The video though 720p through WiFi is totally acceptable for making family memories and the wide angle photos it takes are simply outstanding. Obviously it’s not equipped to handle much wind but still for its size it’s amazing. I do use the Mi repeater if I am flying in an area larger than my backyard. I try to place the repeater central to where I’ll be flying and stand about 20-30 feet away.
Wow, now that was a great deal you got for $100. I usually give away most of my drones once I'm done reviewing them, but I won't ever get rid of this one. Big fan of the Tello. Glad the video was useful.
Hi, I found this tutorial very useful. However it took about an hour to work out how to add a device in the Mi Home app. I finally discovered that you have to click the + sign at the top right of the page when you are in the room home page . . . Thanks Chris
Thanks for the great video. Now that my tello is set up it works with both the Tello and the Tello FPV apps. I've been to 99 feet and STILL have my Tello in one piece!
Thanks for this tutorial. Just got my repeater in today and couldn’t figure it out fully by myself. My daughter is going to love me even more now. Off the subject I can’t wait till my Skydio 2 comes in around April or the second quarter of 2020. GAME CHANGING DRONE!!!
Between the Mavic Mini and the Skydio 2 releases, the Skydio is definitely the more intriguing drone. Glad the tutorial helped on the Tello. Still my favorite little drone.
Thanks for your great videos on gadgets, too! I had one major problem with the Xaiomi I want to let you and your subscribers know about. I wasted several hours, nothing seemed to work. Bottom line, I was trying to get this configured at my desk...right below my TP-Link router. It’s string RF signal was overloading the receive side of the Xaiomi. I moved everything to another location and everything went flawlessly. Wish you were my neighbor! Needless to say, I subscribed.
1. Connect to Tello and make WiFi password for Tello 2. Connect to WiFi extender 3. When WiFi extender asks what network to extend, choose Tello network
Thank you for a very clear explanation,I had done it 6 months ago and somehow it needed to be reloaded again and not remembering the steps. So all works fine now.
Thank you so much for this video. I have a Tello and one of these repeaters coming soon. Can’t wait to try it and because of your video I know I’ve got a good chance 😃 Have a great day and keep up the great work.
Thanks Gadget Inspector for this video to set up the repeater! Only RUclips video that explains it so well that it actually was easy! You asked the question about not having to enter a password when re-assigning a non-hyphenated name to your Tello: Well, after I typed in my new name for the Tello, I pressed into the password field and a blinking cursor appeared, but I didn't type anything, I just hit OK. A dialog came up asking me if I wanted to use a null password, and I said OK! That was that. After rebooting my Tello, the correct name came up in my WiFi choices and all was good!
Thank you so much! I had read in someone's review on Amazon, that you had the best video for explaining how to set this up. I followed your instructions to the letter and it worked beautifully. Who would have thought it?!! Great job!
Tip I found out for better video, when connected to the Tello dont connect to wifi first. First open the Tello app and click on connect and it will open WiFi and connect. I use the same repeater. I have been getting better video quality by opening the app first after plunging in the booster cut the Tello on then open app and go from there much less dropp out with the video. Great video keep it it up.
Got it to work (eventually) but it's worth noting that the app shows an error once it's copied the Tello signal. My app said that it was "out of range." If you go back once you've received this message then all works fine. As soon as you see the solid blue light and the Tello_Plus wifi is available then it's worked
It’s a RANGE extender. You place it 100 to 150 from you and it extends your range another 150’. If you place it next to you, you get minimal benefit. You get 100 to 150’ depending on wi fi range. You check range with cellphone so as not to risk your Tello.

It unfortunately looks like the Xiaomi Mi repeater is no longer available. I have not used it, but based on the research I've done this one will work as an alternative: amzn.to/3fFMrUq. If enough people like and/or respond to this comment I'll go ahead and do a setup tutorial.
I'll try to provide updates in the comments as folks let me know about them. Xiaomi has updated this app a few times since I made this video, so some things have changed. Please check the comments below for updates. A couple of viewers have been getting errors even though the connection was successful, so as long as you see a blue light you know the repeater is connected even if the app gives an error.
I just ordered the Mi wifi 2 range extender. I'll be using it for two things: extending the range for wifi drones, and extending the wifi range for my tablet and phone while using the Kitbeez X2 mini true wireless earbuds out in the yard.
I meant to state that I can move my tablet/phone further out in the yard, and keep the tablet/phone within 15ft of my headphones. I notice that the X2 buds keep a solid signal within 15 - 20ft of music source. Thinking of upgrading to Treblab X5 or Soul X-Shock buds after I get my new car tires. Bluetooth headphones provide more freedom for yard work or going to the gym - I love 'em!
Oh yeah...if you're looking to upgrade I can definitely vouch for the X-Shocks. They are my absolute favorites and the first ones I grab. And you're right, wireless is perfect for yardwork and stuff; you don't have to worry about wires getting caught and all of that. I understand taking care of the vehicle too, we'll be getting tires for my wife's car soon as well.
Good job! Some screens were different in the mi home app on my phone (android S9), but essentially the same. Followed your set up and all is well. Thanks.
I'm brand new at this... so my question is - what do you do with the wifi repeater now? Does it hook into/onto the transmitter? Nice video. Very seldom is much said about the 2.4/5.8 wifi signals and knowing which phone had which signal to work with the FPV camera feed. Thanks for sharing.
I usually just place it on the ground or if there's a table next to me. I angle the repeater so that it's facing the direction I'm flying the Tello. I did a test flight a while ago here: ruclips.net/video/gxOUK3c0bIE/видео.html
So I get to the part where in Mi Home I choose the wi-fi I want it to extend, and I choose my Tello. I click next, and it goes through the following steps: Connecting device, Sending message to device, Connecting device to network. I cant get it to connect to the network, that part always times out and then I cant carry on with the set-up. It just asks for me to try again. EDIT: Ok so this is because there is no internet access. If you just close the app (ignore it saying you'll be cancelling the setup if this appears) then it actually does work. Right now I'm connected to the drone through the extender. Now just gotta test the range increase :P
@@MrEye4get i kep ttrying and made sure the phone didnt connect to another wifi. in the end it said failed but the repeater showing a blue light and it worked!
Question, I was beginning to follow your excellent instructions for the first time, but after I download the MI Home app to my iPhone 6S+, the default country in the upper corner says United States vs Mainline. You mention later in your video when opening up the app to make sure it says Mainline....is that necessary, even though I live in the US. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
Hi,well done for the info in your videos ,I'm trying to do same thing as I did about year and half ago with my tello, but now I'm trying to make this WiFi expander to work with the ZLRC sg906 pro 2 but it seems the mi home doesn't find the drone ,is there any way ,or this type of drone doesn't connect same as tello do etc
@@GadgetInspector I think it's 2.4 ,I tried another drone , it's a simtoo moment and the Xiaomi expander did find it ,so the WiFi expander is working, it's still new

Glad to hear that Ben...that's exactly why I make these kinds of videos. If I have trouble with something and I can't find good info on it, I know others are in the same boat. Thanks for the feedback.
I think the powerbank I use is 10000mah, but you definitely don't need one that big. I flew off that powerbank several times and it never dropped from full bars.
Thanks for this. Messed up the password connecting to the Tello. To reset the drone. turn it on, hold the on button for 5-8 secs until lights go off. That should reset the drone allowing you to try and do the password again.
HERE'S AN ALTERNATIVE RANGE EXTENDER: ruclips.net/video/4F1-pAUxg7s/видео.html. Just in case you can't find the Xiaomi Mi anymore.

Same deal with my setup. The blue light comes on but the app fails to complete; because it can't see the Internet?
Same here
@@MrEye4get i kep ttrying and made sure the phone didnt connect to another wifi. in the end it said failed but the repeater showing a blue light and it worked!
Very good info. Waiting for the same repeater to arrive and will certainly use your guide. Thanks 👍
Thanks Glenn.
Huge Huge Huge Thanks.. I tried a couple of videos.. Only did i get it after this,,,
Awesome. Glad it helped.
Great video with very clear instructions. Thank you.
Awesome, glad it helped.
Is it using 2.4ghz or 5g?
@@GadgetInspector I think it's 2.4 ,I tried another drone , it's a simtoo moment and the Xiaomi expander did find it ,so the WiFi expander is working, it's still new
Hello mate! Thanks a lot for the video. It was really helpful. Thank you very much for taking the time to make it. I couldn't find any other useful way to set up my devices. Thanks again and keep up the excellent work
Awesome, glad it was helpful.
OMG SOOOOOO MANY STEPS LIFE WAS NOT MEANT TO BE EASY
lol....
when doing something tach, do't think of it as so mane steps,
just think of it as step1 and step2 and step3 and so on, dont think of it as all one thing, makes it a lot more easy to get it done..
Thanks for the video it is very useful, the app isn't very intuitive an it was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Can you suggest me a small powerbank for this i have a carry bag a powerbank similar size to tello charge hub
Nice job on the video Buddy! It was a BIG help......
Awesome, glad it helped.
Just tested. Must have ithem for TELLO. The image on the smartphone is much more stable and the distance is greater.
Glad it's still working after all these years.
Thanks so much for this great "How To Video" I followed right along and all is well. I did look at a few other charnels that did the usual "Just plug it in and turn it on BS" to no avail, what a surprise.
Ii really apricate your time and effort to make this stuff understandable.
Ben Herr
Glad to hear that Ben...that's exactly why I make these kinds of videos. If I have trouble with something and I can't find good info on it, I know others are in the same boat. Thanks for the feedback.
Super informative, thanks Gadget Inspector
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for a clear and concise explanation. What size power brick do you need to keep connected to Tello for flying>
I think the powerbank I use is 10000mah, but you definitely don't need one that big. I flew off that powerbank several times and it never dropped from full bars.
Thank You
Thanks! This helped heaps! Works really well too!! Super happy 😃
Ty Bro! Great vid ;) Now its working thanx to you! I'llshare your video on several forums ;)
Wow, glad this vid is still relevant after all these years. Thanks.
Thank you! Works
Glad it got you all set up.
Thanks for this. Messed up the password connecting to the Tello. To reset the drone. turn it on, hold the on button for 5-8 secs until lights go off. That should reset the drone allowing you to try and do the password again.
Yep, great tip.
Hey what’s the name of that white drone you had in the second part?

Dude, thank so much!
Keep making great videos
You got it. More on the way.
Thanks for that, I have the tello, and recently got the xiaomi wifi extender and was wondering how to connect them.
Glad to help. Thanks for watching.
Maranatha???? The dronelord will return???? :-D
Thank you for this video. I'm going to try this with the Fimi x8 se 2020 once I find a portable 5ghz repeater.
