I guess you could say Cameo was my favorite group from back in the day, not saying they had the most talent, that would be Earth Wind and Fire, the Isleys and the Ohio Players for me. But I always liked Cameo, the Bar Kays, and Ray Parker Jr.
I got hit with the old thing a few Xmas' ago I'm with extended family, and playing some old school Cameo, Commodores, Ray Parker, Brick ("Dusic"), and other fav's, then my Hip-Hop, Gangster wannabe nephew walks in from the other room and yells out "Man why you playing all of that "Pre-Historic" crap!!!! From Stevie Wonder, to George Clinton/Parliament Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, Ohio Players, Rick James, Prince, Commodores, Chaka Khan/Rufus, Lakeside, Cameo, The Gap Band, too many others to name-Funk was just in our bloodstream-the air we breathed. Even though it may have been our parents music, we were birthed and nurtured by it.

Real music. In the early 2000s I took some audio engineering classes. We were always excited when we got to do live recordings. When a band would come in we were pretty sure they would be White. Young Black people for the most part are no longer playing instruments. The young Black artists that came in to record were all rappers. I love rap, but I miss music, funk and soul with instruments. While I was there we didn't even have one singer. I was sad that we don't make music anymore. Maybe things will change.

@@breebarry4422Music education is being cut at poor schools all over. There is another thing. If you look back at the history of a lot of Black bands. They came from areas where there were union factory jobs. Parents had a little extra money to buy instruments. Kids made groups and practiced in garages. Loss of manufacturing and music programs, a double blow.
