- Welcome back to Ikigai Driven channel. We all know 350Z interior panels factory paint easily scratches. To save the embarrassment from people sitting in my car or from car shows, I decided to restore them. They came out great and the paint is much more durable than OEM.

Great content for us 350z owners out there! Thank you man!
Never enough time to do it right(thanks Nissan) but always enough time to do it over. The analogy I have used for every company I have ever worked for in the last 40 years.
Well said!
“Wear a mask” that’s all we do now :(
Truth!
Ikigai Driven did the car smell like paint after tho?
No it doesn't. Odorless
Not anymore lol
Nice bro, I went with a mat finish three coats, and it looks just like factory.
Good job, do you have pictures. Thank you for your support.
Thanks for the video. I did the doors in the same paint you did and switched to Matte Black for the center and I'd recommend matte black, it's almost indistinguishable from the rest of the dash. Thanks again.
Great work man. I think ill paint the entire thing with Matte Black so light doesnt reflect off the dash as much. Thanks for the video!!
Thank you, matte black should look fire! Send me some pictures when you re done.
Great video, supporting your channel, keep up the good work!
Thanks! Appreciate your support!
Keep the videos coming, good work.
Appreciate the support!! Definitely more videos coming soon!
Upload more! Great content 👌🏻
Thanks for your support !!!
woww you did a great job!! keep up the vids!!
Thanks for your support! Sorry about the super late reply!
It looks very nice!!
Thank you, appreciate the support.
it's been a few years, how did the window switch panels hold up? Do you think they ever needed a clear coat?
It’s holding up great. No paint chips. Don’t think clearcoat is needed.
this is old but i just did this on my car and if you want to remove the old paint and keep the texture I used some fine steel wool from home depot and it worked good and did not mess up the texture for me anywhere.
Thank you for making this video, I hope mine comes out as perfect as yours.
Anytime! Good luck on your project!
How did you remove the silver outlines/rims around the dash gauge clusters
It's pretty straight forward. Just push it from behind. I believe there's a tab to push to release it.
@@ikigaidriven Didnt realize it was a tab, thought it was a clip and then glued in. I just pushed the gauage pods partially down and then covered with sanwich baggies and tape the cover it.
Subrcirbed since you made the best I’ve seen on RUclips
Thank you for the support!
Sweet thanks!
No problem!
The video I didn’t search for but needed. My 350z interior is horrible
Haha thanks for stopping by. Luckily $5 spray can and few hours of your time will fix all that
@@ikigaidriven what was the name of the spray you got?
Looks clean
Thanks for your support!
Are you going to do another 350z
maybe in the future.
Ok I will be waiting so I can get some ideas
Great, love it
Appreciate the support!
what kind of paint did you use ?
The product is linked in the description
Which sand paper did you use ? And which paint cans did you use ? and how many?
Id like to see how to remove the Inside door Barrel cover. Mine is scratched.
It's pretty straight forward with some screws
Nice work
Thanks!! Appreciate it!
Are you looking to do this to your car? Let us know if you need any help!
great video...you have inspired me to do the same, all is/have gone well except when i got the part (time stamp on your vid 134) when the nob exploded off the door case, do you happen to know of a video or can help with getting that little piece back on the door? i have searched all over and can't find anything. Much appreciated
What type of sand paper is this? What grain
how much coats of paitn did you use? aslo what grit sandpaper for sanding
What exact paint did you use? And type sand paper
Krylon Fusion in Satin Black finish. I used a wet sandable sand paper in various grits and finished it off in 1000 grit.
How long did you wait between coats
10 mins between each coat. i let it dry 24 hours before putting it all back together
Ikigai Driven thank you😂 you saved me because last time i tried, it wrinkles up
Would you recommend me to do this with tan interior? I really want black interior. Or should i just buy black interior
When you removed the interior door trims did you use a plastic pry tool?
Yes I did. Or you can tape up the flathead screw driver to protect the plastics.
is it really necessary to remove the radio? I seen videos where it was left in place. thanks
Yes it is necessary to remove it otherwise you couldn't paint the edges
Hi, did you remove the stereo as well? or did you leave it in place and just removed the panel?
I removed the stereo. You can see the video at the time stamp 3 minutes in where I painted all the trims without the stereo
The first year 350zs interiors plastics were not painted they were natural color coded. Nissan started painting the later ones with paint
I did my door switch plates and the ovoid panels behind the interior door handles in gloss black to match my exterior paint and they look 1000% better. As neither of those are directly adjacent to the dash trim, it doesn't really matter that they don't match the rest of the dash components. I'm wondering how close that Krylon you used is to the factory sheen. The pieces around the stereo, guages etc. appear to be like a satin or flat black and isn't as rubbery/crappy as the door trim pieces. I'm wondering if the Krylon is close, I might just put a little on a Q-tip etc for tiny areas that don't warrant taking the whole center stack apart. Thx.
The new paint has more sheen than factory for sure but it’s not overly glossy. It has a nice finish to it and gives the interior more upgraded look.
No clear or primer?
No clear
Hey my man i took the lid of storage cover off but i cant put the lid cover spring back on. Any help or tip on how to put it back together? Much appreciate it
Sorry to hear that. I don't remember how to put it back in but I don't recall it being problematic
Do you have to sand down the window switch panels before painting if it only has a few scratches ? Or can I just paint right over it ?
It’s best to sand it smooth otherwise the scratch will show through the new paint
@@ikigaidriven what’s the tool name that you used to sand it ?
Sand paper. The items I used is linked in the video description
@@ikigaidriven which grits did you use? All of them?
I’d start out for 600 and finish it off with 1000 grit
So you DIDN'T use any of that primer paint sitting on the table in the video?? Trying to decide whether or not to buy primer. Also how well has it held up to scratches by now?
No primer was used because the paint used is formulated to provide a super bond to plastic. Also that "primer" sitting on the table is for home walls, just needed something to hold up that trim piece
It's been over a year since I've painted it and the paint is still holding up. No scratches or chips. Very satisfied how it came out
Ikigai Driven Thank you. Did you use Krylon Fusion? I’m repainting my shitty frost interior and the project is giving me hell bc I don’t really have a proper place to paint in, and I’ve wasted a lot of money on regular Krylon paint...
@@Lollzipop Yes I used Krylon Fusion in Satin Black finish. I find that this gives me the perfect finish that is close to OEM. You can try using a big cardboard box and use it as a "paint booth", just need to make sure it's propped on something that you can easily spin around to paint. Or find a friend who's willing to let you borrow their garage space. Just let it sit overnight to dry before handling it.
Ikigai Driven That’s great bc Krylon Fusion is cheaper than the Dupli-Color Trim & Bumper I was considering. Believe me, my whole tiny apartment has become an awful paint booth but I’ve reached the point to where I’m begging people for garage space. I’d do it outside if it were so windy and humid all the time. Let’s hope the third time trying does it for this project...wish me luck! 😣
hi Sir,,,,,,thank you for your great video, one question please how many coats should be done??
3 coats should be good
@@ikigaidriven thank you for your quick response!!!
No problem!
Nice work man, do you think that will remove vinyl by sanding it down that is glued to the panels or is it worth just replacing them and touching up the paint on the replacement parts?
Hey I think that really depends how hard it is. Try working on a smaller panel first to see if that works. If not, easier to replace the part
I’m looking to buy a 350Z. It looking like the interior is scratched up and a speaker cover is missing.
The interior is very common to get scratched up. Get it painted like I did and it'll look better than factory. Speaker cover should be cheap to replace.
Curious why you didn’t spray some sort of clear protective coating on it after you painted?
Not necessary to me. The clear coat will make it more glossy which isn’t the look I’m going for
I really want a z but i just don’t know what to get:( i know de’s have a burning oil problem but hr’s are like double the price. Any tips?
Save the headache and get the HR. It's worth every penny
I'm a bit to reply, but I had exactly the same concerns when I was looking for a Z (about 2 years ago). I ended up buying a 2005 DE, and the oil consumption has been negligible. A friend of mine also has a 2004 DE and he also doesn't have any issues. Either we got the cream of the crop, or it's really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be 😅 Just check oil regularly (as you should do anyway) and top up if it ever gets low (which I think I do once or twice in 10,000 km - a 250ml at most).
Out of curiosity, did you ever end up buying a Z? Anything else?
Would clear coating it help to protect it better?
It would but it might look less oem
Did you use spray paint or a specific interior paint?
Spray paint. I listed which one i used in the video description
I know this video is 4 years ago if you still have the car how is the paint holding up ?
Sold the car but had it for awhile and it was holding up great with no paint chips
Yeah, make sure you wear a mask that wont protect against paint fumes. How were the black boogers?
Lol super black haha
Nice work. FYI that mask is useless against volatile aerosols.
How do you take off the silver bezel?
It's held on by sticky tape. I just pulled it off
The paint they used on the JDM models is fine, not a mark on mine
JDM models gets better parts than USDM 😂
@@ikigaidriven damn that sucks...for you xD
@@GKMusik1 Haha all good. The finish is now better than ever since I painted it
What grit level u used and did u wet sand it
What exactly did you use to clean it?
Did u used black paint?
Yup
how did the paint hold up
It’s still holding up. No cracks or chips. It’s all in the prep work
Thats not a mask for paint, its for dust. Pls use a respirator style mask with cartridges😄
interior update???
Still looking great. No chips
@@ikigaidriven okok 🔥thanks for replying after 3 years 💪🏽
how has it held up?
Still holding up great
12.9mpg kills me😂
02 audi A4 has the same problem
Did you paint it too?
What grit sand paper did you use?
I used 600-800 grit on the window switch cover but didn’t have the need to sand the center consoles with texture. The krylon fusion paint adheres really well without it being sanded. Just make sure it’s clean
@@ikigaidriven Thank you. Quick question...how does the Krylon paint hold up now? Does it chip/scratch off easy? (Like the OEM painting)
@RagingStormX still holding great. much stronger than OEM. No issue of any chipping or scratches
@@ikigaidriven Thank you...will attempt to do mine this weekend
@@RagingStormX No problem! Let us know how it turned out.
Or you can go to carid spend 200 and get a full carbon fiber kit
I only spent $7 on the spray can lol
Ikigai Driven lol
mine is scratched to hell and its almost $200 to repaint, fucking ridiculous man. I think I'll just repaint it. maybe put a design on it, idk
Yes! Do something different!
That gas milage tho 💀
Yeah this thing eats a lot of gas lol
It's a little too shiney
Gotta see it in person
You sound like chrisfix
Thanks for your support.
Are you happy with the krylon. I heard it scuffs?
Extremely happy. Been over a year and the paint is still holding up. No scratches or chips
@@ikigaidriven thanks
It depends on which parts you paint and how often you try to fit/pack things in the vehicle, in my experience.
that mask does nothing ,,you need an actual respirator type mask...Pretty cheap at Harbor freight
Thanks! Yes the mask doesn't work effectively as the paint mask but it's all I had at the time which was better than nothing
First
Always first =)
