Worked for a company in Minneapolis that hired a lot of Somalis. Some from Somaliland, some from the South. I got to know quite a few of them, really nice people, always wanting to small talk about everything and always asking questions to keep a conversation going. Almost all of them wanted to distance themselves so much from the violence that they didn't much like to talk about the differences between Somaliland and Somalia because it was pretty contentious for some of the more hotheaded youths and the much older folks there. Most the adults my age (30s) were just tired of the drama and violence and wanted a home and felt like they couldn't go back even if they had the option it was kinda sad. Super duper friendly. Wish i learned more of the language. Cant spell it but... Mahatsani (thank you i think?) for the video!

i used to work in Somalia during the 70s it was probably the most advanced country in Africa while being very liberal.. Its a shame how outside interference can change a country (Saudi Arabia).
kor ich the Somali people are resilient and capable, it’s just the statelessness and a lack of a government that is the reason for the problems. The roads and infrastructure is poor because of no real government but the people themselves are innovative and use smartphones and other luxuries.
Somalia needs a strong government like the one before 1991 that has a strong control over the whole country and law enforcement agencies, free public services etc. The government before 1991 was ambitious and strong and had invested heavily on the country and developing the Somali population and that’s why before the war one could confidently say Somalia was one of the most advanced and stable countries in Africa.

Lol, these streets are so familiar. My mom homeland and capital of Somaliland. And yes camera and any recordings are not looked on positively. However of you ask them for permission, most will accept it.
