Lots of valid comments here both for and against the new version. I think the important thing is that the original is still freely available on iPlayer so people can choose to go back to that or go for a pacier option with better effects and without the prop guy's hand slipping away under Sutekh's butt 😂
@@eonetimYeah, who cares about preserving old media otherwise amiright? Anything that doesn't have new CG might as well be deleted from existence. Whenever I see clips from the classic episodes that introduced sutekh it sounds like they say he’s an alien species, rather than a god from the pantheon, did retcon where he’s from?
Personally think it’s a waste of villain. Hardly is Egyptian mythology been explored and with the upped budget they could’ve easily made a historic with sutehk back in the fold or maybe another of his species

As an amateur 3d sculptor I can tell you many modern monsters lack a truly distinct silhouette, whereas OG Sutekh had by design one expression. His features are obscured save for his piercing eyes.
The classic is still there you manchild. There's nothing wrong with a fan's attempt to modernize a scene from an old show because, shocker, it's NOT OFFICIAL.
Nah. It's cut down to 75 minutes, is all. Those of us used to the original notice the joins, of course. But they kept all of the important quirks. As an omnibus version, not bad.
On a technical level this looks very good. On an artistic and sentimental level it would've been pretty cool if they could've recreated the feel of the original with modern SFX
This new effect is much more powerful than the original (and I am someone who is very critical of prefacing the old shots)
“He lived about 7,000 years”
“WELL THAT’S ALRIGHT THEN”
The old one looks like smarties in space
The new one looks like a big space colon after a spicy lunch.

Not for me. It had a jewelled faceted look, that went very well with that shimmery sound effect...
@@spiralx6249 The effect is called a chromotrope. Agreed it did look good with the sound.
@@That_Random_Bloke to be fair, this comment deserves a lot more credit
Sutekh: Oh no... (catches The Doctor's TARDIS) Anyway.
Doctor: OK Ponds, what do you say we fly through the 10 Billion Volt Nebula?
Amy: Yeah!
Rory: Yeah.
Sutekh: NO!
Doctor: Well, 2 against one.
No it was Scooby Doo

Hope these effects will be in the blu ray set whenever it's released
Yep gotta believe it
Put the full CG from the new story in it or really who cares 😂

@HOTD108_ I meant who cares about doing less CG than putting the new monster in. But you go right ahead and beat me 👨🎓

The Tom Baker Doctor regularly off'd the bad guys. He never enjoyed it though.

A nice modern effect. Kinda like the original Star Trek of having planets look like planets or whatever they redid for the show.

hope they release this season next!

it's odd i see these after watching this espode since it was a bones included with the sja bookset
Nice, any others?
yes

How come the rubbish old unmasked Sutekh design still looks better than the fancy new CGI Sutekh?!
More humanoid less creature looking. Like the Egyptian Gods. It might have been a shoestring budget but it still holds up pretty well.

Leave a classic alone.
Indeed, because it's the only decent show left out of today's pile of shite

Not as good as the original it was more sinister this was just total vandalism that team need to stay away from the classic series.
