I think Sutekh would be more welcome if he brought better gifts. Something like "I bring Sutekh's gift of a 3-day weekend to all humanity" would go over much better.
It's really amazing what Classic Doctor Who pulled off with some Shakespearean actors, dedicated writers, a imaginative production team, and 12 dollars.
A lower budget and time constraints generally actually lead to better product than when you have an almost infinite budget and money to burn. Pyramids of Mars will be remembered. I wish I could forget whatever they chose to call this latest season
@@gulkaramazov6724 For a 49 year old programme, I think the sets are excellent and a real labour of love for the set designer and the craftsmen involved. Remember, back then the BBC had a whole building like a factory where set designers and craftsmen( possibly a few craftswomen by the seventies) worked to build studio sets.
How many shows could get a 90+ year old actor to reprise a role from years ago? Doctor Who has done it 4 times in the last 7 years. Ysanne Churchman, William Russell, Bernard Cribbins, Gabriel Woolf. Any chance of a Tom Baker cameo?
The scientist says the Tardis is "dimensionally transcendental" - just like Rogue did. Some superb scenery chewing dialogue as well - from a character who cannot even move, but exudes menace none the less... "Abase yourself, you grovelling insect..!"
Great comment especially those words 'the ominous feeling throughout'. That is what I have missed a lot in the last few years. Sometimes less is more and I think this may be an example of that?
I have mixed feelings about Sutekh coming back. He was clearly killed in Pyramids of Mars. And he's _such_ a powerful being that there should really be no chance of the Doctor to come close to defeating him a second time. But for the sake of Nuvians experiencing Sutekh, and for Gabriel's pocket money (gin money?), I'll let it slide...

Sutekh’s space-time tunnel sound effects were among the best in the classic series. I had them on an album when I was a kid and how again thanks to iTunes. 👍🏻
I've been wondering if Horus the god of Light could make an appearance to face Sutekh. Perhaps Ruby is somehow related to Horus and she will be the key to Sutekh's defeat. After all we're looking for Ruby's mother all season but what about her father? I think her mother is an ordinary human while her father might be a God from the Pantheon or maybe some other God.
I am incredibly excited to see what they do with Sutekh. I hope they bring back The Mara soon because they mentioned it. I was wrong with my guess for the villain, I was all in on The Great Intelligence
I was a little surprised by Sutekth's appearance in the latest episode until I realised that his species are supposed to look dog-like, though I do hope we see that mask.
Yeah, there seems to be a lot of older stuff where they’re just like “eh, dump it on RUclips or a FAST service, we don’t care”. I think ShoutFactory has a Farscape channel and a bunch of Tokusatsu and Gerry Anderson stuff too.
On my Vizio TV, there is a button labeled "Watch Free+". They have hundreds of channels like CSI, Baywatch, Midsomer Murders, The Three Stooges, The Addams Family, Game Show Channel. One is called Doctor Who Classic. I know other TV brands have free channels that run off Wi-Fi.
Wow those first four to five seasons of Tom Baker's DW tenure will never be outdone imo. Watching this I had almost forgotten how brilliant the writers and produceers etc were. Fun fact: Paddy Russell became the first woman to direct episodes of Doctor Who. She directed The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve (1966) and three further Doctor Who serials: Invasion of the Dinosaurs (1974), Pyramids of Mars (1975), and Horror of Fang Rock (1977).[7] She found directing Tom Baker more than challenging. In fact she is quoted as saying, "Tom Baker was easy to deal with at first, but the part went to his head completely. By the time I did Horror of Fang Rock, he was desperately difficult to work with". We all love Tom including the outbreak of his ego over his (the longest) run as the Doctor. I was wondering if they would get Tom back for this information update for newbies. At 91 it was always going to be unlikely. Still legendary stories like this will be adored for generations to come. Liz Sladen, we miss you terribly. Ian Marter who travelled with Sarah and The Doctor as Harry Sullivan, we miss you too. Never forgotten.
That's actually one of the reasons I love old TV shows and movies so much, the fact that you can spot little mistakes like that or improvisations so much more, because filming techniques and set etiquette etc hadn't yet become so clean and refined like they are now
I feel like a fool after the Piano summoning scene. God, it seems SO OBVIOUS. I was just misdirected by the Maestro themself being themed around music, I hadn't considered the secondary implication.
It's always interesting to see how flexible Doctor Who is about the malleability of time/history. There are times where it leans hard of arbitrary "fixed points" where certain events have to happen, and then there's this clip and the one scene from this season where they go back to the present to show that everything will be gone if they don't intervene. Also, is there some sort of beginning to end of time history book where the Doctor just "knows" what is the right course of events versus the wrong course of events. It's easy to bounce back to 1980 and say, "Everything we know is going to be gone if we don't stop this." But if the Doctor doesn't have that easy reference point, who are they to say how something is "meant" to play out?
What’s wrong with 15? Ncuti has enough charisma, charm and even the bravery to face the greatest of foes with God-like powers just like Maestro and will take down Sutekh
I'm glad they've posted this as I will have seen the original episode but more decades ago than I care to admit. I'm not always a fan of cleaning up old episodes but the clarity of vision and sound is fabulous. I also would only have seen this in b&w too. Bloody hell, I am old 😂

I was a little surprised by Sutekth's appearance in the latest episode until I realised that his species are supposed to look dog-like, though I do hope we see that mask.
Sutekh. The deadliest threat the Doctor ever faced. Prescient.
I still kind of wish they'd kept the iconic Sutekh armor look with that creepy mask & updated it
Absolutely LOVE this story! Tom Baker and Liz Sladen are both at the top of their game in this one!❤❤❤
I just saw this last week on my smart tv. With all the "Free+" channels, one shows Classic Doctor Who 24 hours a day. That was a happy accident.
Yeah, there seems to be a lot of older stuff where they’re just like “eh, dump it on RUclips or a FAST service, we don’t care”.
I think ShoutFactory has a Farscape channel and a bunch of Tokusatsu and Gerry Anderson stuff too.
Where?
Where do you watch it please
She directed The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve (1966) and three further Doctor Who serials: Invasion of the Dinosaurs (1974), Pyramids of Mars (1975), and Horror of Fang Rock (1977).[7]
She found directing Tom Baker more than challenging.
Sarah Jane ❤
8:13 - watch for the crew member's hand disappear from shot after holding the chair so it didn't tip over.
That's actually one of the reasons I love old TV shows and movies so much, the fact that you can spot little mistakes like that or improvisations so much more, because filming techniques and set etiquette etc hadn't yet become so clean and refined like they are now
Thank you for posting this.
What a great idea to revitalise this iconic story. We should have seen this coming.
Love how the spooky music is both diegetic and non-diegetic! (Something else RTD made a cute reference to in the current season?)
Seems like RTD used this seriel as inspiration for the whole season
Il ike this Doctor! Haven't seen much of him yet (haven't seen much of Classic Who in general) but his personality is instantly hooking!
Classic Who is so good. Much better than now. Longer stories are better.
I knew it wasn’t a clip show! I hope we see Sutekh’s humanoid form in Empire of Death!
9:49 - I love Tom Baker’s acting here, the way he rubs his face, as if to say, “Thank GOD that’s over with.” 😂
Sutekh is the returning villain we didn’t know we wanted or needed.
I feel like a fool after the Piano summoning scene. God, it seems SO OBVIOUS. I was just misdirected by the Maestro themself being themed around music, I hadn't considered the secondary implication.
*the Maestro themself :)
Doctor Who forever
8:14. I see you there, Hand of Sutekh.
My favorite Dr, who story .
Good ol' Derek Meddings on the special effects/explosions! And since we're on Egyptian deities.... someone want to call the SGC?
Tom Baker is just fantastic!
5:14. Wait until he's held onto the TARDIS for who knows HOW long since being seemingly defeated by aging to death in the time vortex, Doctor.
They showed the infamous Hand of Sutekh at 8:15, I see!
I wish we got Tales of the Tardis in Australia. The ABC haven't aired classic who in like 20 years.
So it would seem Sutekh on his way to the edge of eternity hacked the TARDIS time/space controller, setting a recall date…clever!
I bet even with the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Master combined, they would all still be terrified of Sutekh.
Very much so.
One of my favorite episodes- The Guardian Riddle is the greatest riddle ever to befuddle the smart ass in your circle.
Sarah Jane. 🥺❤️❤️
Filmed in Mick Jagger's home at the time. I dunno if he's still living there.
I knew Image Of The Fendahl filmed there, didn't realise Pyramids Of Mars did as well.
My brother Allan and I were trying where we heard that name before. Thank you for this and of course my first Doctor ❤❤
This is without a doubt one of the top 5 best Dr Who stories ever!
Brilliant its nice to see Tom again 👍 😀
the pyramids of mars is arguably one of the best tom baker who stories.
I hope we see something similar to Sutekh pausing that explosion, in Empire of Death as well.
Ahhhhh! So Sutekh is not a new foe at all, but an old one!
The original costume designs are gorgeous. Better than what we saw in the new version, so far. That mask is so menacing !
THANKS for this!!!!
Yeah this one for sure was needed
Sutekh had to return one day but with this Doctor... 😱 😏 Imagine him against 9 or 10
What’s wrong with 15? Ncuti has enough charisma, charm and even the bravery to face the greatest of foes with God-like powers just like Maestro and will take down Sutekh
10th was his far way better worthy opponent.
My Doctor and a favourite story from my childhood.
I'm glad they've posted this as I will have seen the original episode but more decades ago than I care to admit. I'm not always a fan of cleaning up old episodes but the clarity of vision and sound is fabulous. I also would only have seen this in b&w too. Bloody hell, I am old 😂
‘I am the servant of Sutekh. He needs no other.’
Stunning ...
That scene where he takes Sarah to a desolate present day is exactly the same as in the Devils Chord!
8:15 still the weirdest goof in that episode as a hand is shown under Suteck as he stands up then suddenly hides 😂😂
Just finished watching this yesterday. How did Sutekh find or get attached to the Tardis this time?
Absolutely called it
Awesome. I remember this episode. One of my favorites. ❤

@@DrWhoFanJ LOL I think I hinted to that in a few words 😆
@@richt63 My point was that you spelled both those words incorrectly.
@@DrWhoFanJ well I'm from America. We spell words differently than in England. Unless this is attempt to show intolerance to a fan of doctor who from America. I think you should ignore the discrepancy. Otherwise I think you are being disrespectful sir.
@@richt63 You still only addressed one of your two errors, and I’m not being intolerant or disrespectful.
I just watched this episode today because of the new episode, the first classic who I've seen :D was very good
Grew up on classic who. Especially Tom Baker. Rewatch his run he's got some amazing stories.
@@brucegrossman3531 dw, I'm planning on going through and watching all of it

@@DrWhoFanJ eeehhh????? Story? Maybe? I'm not sure what they're called cause all of Classic who is like this, they're titled like individual episodes in a season would be, all part of one story that makes up an episode structure but they're split into parts so I'd call them individual sections that make up a whole episode... i think
but you called them storys which is a good name but its not fitting right in my brain cause tv show structure is always episodes and i feel like story is quite vague, you've confused me now and I wasn't thinking much about it before
@@Danjag _Pyramids of Mars_ is a story comprising four numbered episodes. It’s that simple.
What a great story. Sure which Sutekh will return the same way in the last ep.
