Absolutely! I hate not being able to see the hems or the stitch lines for facings etc when they make it all in black or a heavy print, drives me crackers!!
Sam's catch phrases - "I don't hate it", "Why is it all in black?", "Why is it all in white?" Sam, you do the absolute best pattern reviews on RUclips. You always say what I am thinking.
😂😂😂😂 I’m going to print this 😂 I didn’t realise I was so repetitive, beginning to think my husband has a point when he says I’m repeating myself 😂😂. You’re always far too kind and far too lovely, thank you 😘😘❤️
@@SewinginSwitzerland They aren't repetition, they're your catch phrases. Could you imagine (and here I am showing my age) Brucie if he wasn't saying, "Nice to see you; to see you nice"?
You are so lovely, thank you so much 😘❤️ I truly believe style is super personal to everyone’s individual personalities and tastes but I draw the line at the orange ill-fitting shoes 😂🙈. Hope you’re having a great start to the week! ❤️❤️
LOL, from your description of tissue fitting makes me think you might have been spying on me when I was trying the Palmer/Pletch method. Oh boy, you are right, it is such hard work.
😂😂 if there aren’t tears, you’re not doing it right! I like it for beginners to see the alteration option lines on the McCalls version but there’s way easier options that involve (marginally) less tears 😂😅
Absolutely love these videos! Thinking on the last dress in orange , I could most likely buy a much nicer dress at Sainsbury's for less than this pattern plus fabric. I do think McCalls has lost the plot! I get so excited when I see you've put together another one of these new pattern reviews!!
Thank you so much Laura! Staying on brand there with the Sainsbury’s logo orange too! My mum said George over at Asda has got some great things in too actually! Supermarkets here in Switzerland don’t have a clothing section, it’s very sad! Thank you for the lovely message 😘😘❤️
Hello! Yes of course, absolutely! Is that the Nina Lee one in a knit fabric? Sorry for the late reply - we’ve had a poorly pug on our hands but back in the sewing room now! All the best ❤️❤️
I think fabric makes all the difference and some of these may be pretty basic but great fabric choice can make even the bland designs beautiful. Pattern photos are never done well so I mostly ignore them and go by the line drawing and shop the stash. I disagree on the P&P patterns - there's no way to tissue fit enough that you don't still need a muslin. I measure and adjust and still do a muslin. Hope the new treatment you're trying for your pup gets results.
Hi Denise! How are you? Shop the stash - love it! Completely agree - fabric does make all the difference, 100% with you on that. Also, my tired addled brain didn’t explain myself very well, I am also team Muslin! I just meant that the P&P tagline they use is ‘you don’t need to make a muslin’ but almost always, the tissue has problems and fitting errors so a muslin is always the best way. They also advertise it as a time saving method, which is also a hard no 😅🙈. Sorry am so tired at the moment, don’t think I’m on my best form with explaining! Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend though! 😘😘❤️
@@SewinginSwitzerland Not you I was referring to but P&P. A friend took their class ages ago and still had to make a muslin. Who can pin tissue paper together? It shreds and it has none of the properties of real fabric, and as we know that makes all the difference in fit. But it must work for some people because the P&P method is still around. Their book Fit for Real People, though, is my go-to and one of the best fitting book on my shelf. Hope you get some rest. Dealing with a sick pup is just draining. It's not just the worry, it's the caring for during treatment that's wears you out. Hopefully you can get some therapeutic sewing in. 👍.
Your poor friend. That must have been so frustrating for them! Yes totally agree, not to mention the pin stabs to the body 🙈😅 they’re the worst! And yes, hard agree on the tissue versus fabric fit, the only comparable thing is using fabric in a muslin anyway! Oooh I will check my bookshelf for that book, rings a bell. How are you doing? And your pup too? You’re right, it’s so exhausting, even on the good days. Think we all need a sewing vacation 🤪🤞xxx
Sam I love your pattern reviews! The big 4 (5) are playing a hard game of catch up with the Indies. Kudos for them for that but they still don't add enough information about the sizing- specifically finished garment measurements ON THE BACK OF THE ENVELOPE. And the images are sorely lacking. As an American sewists this makes me sad.
Thank you so much for the lovely message, it makes me so very happy to know you enjoyed it! Yeah totally agree, whilst the indies go through cycles of bringing out similar patterns to eachother, they’re still leagues ahead of what the Big 4/5 are churning out. Totally agree re sizing, I’ve noticed a huge increase recently in labelling their sizing ‘xs-l’… like what does that even mean, no actual numbers alongside it either, just letters 😂🤡 it’s sooo lazy!! Also, totally agree re images, it all feels very slapdash to be honest! 😘😘❤️
You are so right about hiding thing in black. It is so hard to see any problems when it is in black.
Absolutely! I hate not being able to see the hems or the stitch lines for facings etc when they make it all in black or a heavy print, drives me crackers!!
You're so funny. Love this video and hope the pugs get better soon!!
Thanks so much! My husband thinks I’m hilarious too 😅
Your dog's snoring in the back is hilarious! 🤣
You should hear them in the night time, 10x louder! 😂😂🙈

The snoring is adorable
I bore them to tears unfortunately 😂🙈 although sleeping is a top 3 favourite activity for them 😂🤪
love your videos and I think I'm learning a lot about styling along the way!

"Darling Buds of May" - my gosh, you are showing our ages here, Sam ;)
Classic Catherine Zeta Jones though! I even went to the farm it was filmed on back in the day 😂😂🫣

Would there be any possibility of a sew along to the simply sewing pattern called the Mayfair dress please? X
Hello! Yes of course, absolutely! Is that the Nina Lee one in a knit fabric? Sorry for the late reply - we’ve had a poorly pug on our hands but back in the sewing room now! All the best ❤️❤️
Yes. That would be amazing. I think your teaching style is so clear and you seem such good fun and totally in love with your potatoes!

I love Team Potato and, no, I don't think you have been to harsh.
Thanks so much Kim! Will give them all big kisses from you 😘😘😘 hope you’re having a good week love xoxox
I agree that this is an uninspiring collection of patterns.
They were just all a bit samey and dull I thought? Glad it’s not just me though! 😘😘❤️
