These classics over time become known as some of the greatest races of their generation and as we slip further away from the Car of Tomorrow(COT) era of racing, it becomes time wonder, What is the COT's Greatest Race.

This race is why Atlanta stayed with its surface for so long. I remember back then I was coming home from school and got to see the last 20 laps of the race.

I remember driving on the interstate through Kentucky that evening, listening to the radio on a sketchy AM/FM signal. I had to pull over at a rest stop to make sure I kept the signal and compose myself in the name of road safety to hear the end of the broadcast.

Incidentally, the race with the highest field win total in history was the 1986 Coca-Cola 600. The field had a combined total of 973 wins and 30 championships. It was David Pearson's next to last race, had basically all of the old guard running, plus rare appearances from future stars like Martin and Jarrett.
More recently, the fall Texas race in 2005 had 915 wins and 26 championships. That was thanks to having Hamlin and Truex in their pre-rookie runs, plus Elliott and Terry Labonte in their part-time schedules, as well as Rusty in his last season.

My mind always goes back to the 2007 Goody's 500 at Martinsville, I was there and almost saw my fav driver Jeff Gordon win but Jimmie spoiled it for me. Still one of my personal favorite finishes of all time

To me, I think one of the best PLATE races ever in the COT era was either 2009 Aaron’s 499 or the ‘09 Coke Zero 400.

    Addendum:
Assuming this was done before Joey Logano’s championship last night.
By my count, yesterday should now account for 24 championships (and counting) among this roster.
    7: Jimmie Johnson
    4: Jeff Gordon
    3: Tony Stewart
2 (2 drivers): Logano, Kyle Busch
1 (6 drivers): Bobby Labonte, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr.
Haven't counted the race wins either, but assuming this would likely put the combined win total of these drivers at 791 given that Logano's championship was also the result of a win.
