    The Hymn of Finland.
This is the song that won the Finns their freedom, in 1917.
Again in 1939 - 1945 by fighting Russia, yet again!
Their incredible bravery was inspired by this Hymn to FREEDOM!
    Those are beautiful kids!
    Their grandfathers paid the price!

Vox Aurea ("The Golden Voice") is one of the best youth choirs in Europe and is based in Jyväskylä, the Athens of Finland. Founded in 1968 it has won many national and international awards. The choir has given proclaimed performances in North America, Europe and the Far East and this ethereal rendition of Finlandia is characteristic of their work.

Vox Aurea - The Golden Voice - is a children's choir based in the iconic Finnish cultural capital of Jyvaskyla and consists of around 40 teenagers chosen by audition. Founded in 1968 it rapidly became a serious rival to the Vienna Boys choir and it performs widely throughout Europe, North America and the Far East.

@NewsOrAim I'm a Finn, but just a dilettante regarding music. Anyways here are my two cents, based on my understanding of the language - for me it seems that pronouncing the vowels comprising a diphthong with unequal lengths would sound just plain awkward. Actually it would break the diphthong in to two parts: a double vocal followed by a single one, creating a syllable break between them. So we would have a new 'word' probably gibberish but sometimes real, but with a totally new meaning :)

@NewsOrAim As a rule, all diphtongs in Finnish are descending, but I think the difference is very subtle compared to other languages. Even in spoken language in "päiväs" the "i" would be almost equal to the "ä". Emphasis is always on the first syllable, but when the first syllable is a diphtong, the difference is almost non-existent.

@NewsOrAim I'm still no more an expert of choir singing than a couple of days ago. Anyways, when thinking about it, I'm pretty sure that when singing, pronouncing diphthong vocals with uneven lengths tends to be a recurring problem for even the Finns despite the fact that it goes against the very basic rules of the language.
Thus the answer to your original question would be "yes they have to practice it - or at least must be reminded of it from time to time" - with caveats expressed above.

Hieno esitys. Eipä ole paljoakaan naiskuoroesityksiä, tai nyt kai tyttökuoro, vaan on oletettu kappaleen olevan vain mieskurorolla laulettavaksi.

Incredible. I hope and pray that Finland is spared the darkness and savagery that is being forced on it by Germany and Sweden, the vipers that will know no peace until all the white snow is brown and filthy.
