Worked for me but took some finagling. For some reason even after sharing my computer's wi-fi connection, my pi zero couldn't ping google. Took a few reboots and it did. I think it might have just been taking a bit longer for the connection to get shared. Not a biggie. What did take some sleuthing though was when I was trying to connect to my pi with Remote Desktop Connection. I kept getting "error - problem connecting". I found a solution on stack exchange. I connected to pi via SSH and then typed the following: sudo apt-get remove xrdp sudo apt-get install vnc4server sudo apt-get install xrdp sudo service xrdp restart sudo reboot After that I was able to pull up the desktop for my pi zero! Thanks for the guide and video, huge help! Now I need to see if I can just plug my zero into the USB port on my router and if it will still power up and get an internet connection...
As per the shared connection issue, in my case the reason was different network on USB. I set the IP for USB network interface manually (no DHCP) and the same IP on RPi (possible in cmdline.txt by adding ip=... parameter) "/etc/init.d/networking restart" was then needed to access internet from RPi
is there any way to also tell the pi to simultaneously manifest itself as a USB AUDIO SOUND CARD to the Laptop (on top of all your stuff).....so that the pi somehow sends it's own Rasbian sound into the Laptop....and then we hear it?
Nice tutorial. I am win 10 user. Initially zero was detected as COM Port device. Just right click on that COM port device, select Update driver", there select RNDIS and there you go. Thank You!
@@ShadoWafel Yes, it deletes it automatically, but you should be able to SSH into it and enable it permanently in raspi-config. There is a good Reddit post about this. Good luck!

You have to connect it to router via Ethernet or wifi, give it static IP and do some port forwarding on the router to allow traffic from internet to your raspberry (if you want to control it from anywhere) But you must make sure it’s secure , so ssh with public keys is recommended way to go, and disable password logins on your PI
On windows 10 so no driver issues. Using latest raspios lite, got "Network error. Connection refused" so put a blank file with no extension in the root of the sd card called "ssh" and it enabled ssh on next boot.
Can't get this working on Windows 10 at all. It's coming up in device manager as Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I've tried all usb ports, hubs, uninstalled all usb drivers, reinstalled all drivers, rebooted, you name it. Any ideas?
This will get you threw the problem. I had the same problem on Windows 7 and that was because I have connected the RaspberryPi through a USB hub. If I connect it directly to the laptop's USB port this issue no longer appears.

Windows 7 - cannot get this to work. I'm not clear... do I or do I NOT need to have the 'Bonjour' service installed to make this work? I know my image is good - I can use the miniHDMI output and view it boot up to the Raspian desktop. I am trying to connect a pi 1 b+ (through lan) and pi 0 (USB) via ssh, which works great but I only can get the internet sharing for the b+ (ehternet). I dont even have the dropdown to choose the pi zero (ethernet 3). Is it because of windows 10? Anyone has this problem or can share valuable insight? Thank you

So with Internet Sharing, does the Pi Zero end up being NATed behind your PC or bridged? For example would the Pi Zero end up getting an IP Address from your LAN (bridged) or from your PC (NAT)?

I cant seem to get my mac sharing internet to the RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget. It connects with the Pi no problem. But the network is also yellow and says "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet." If I give it an IP and get the RNDIS connected, the Pi no longer connects via ssh.

After getting the ssh section to work on windows 10, i could only share the internet by bridging the connection as opposed to sharing my Ethernet/wireless connection, which did not work.
I was unable to get an SSH connection to the Pi-Zero until I created a totally empty "ssh" file in the root directory of the Pi's SD card. Currently having a lot of problems getting the Internet connection sharing configured, so that the Pi can use my normal Ethernet connection to the Internet. I never could get the Windows-10 Internet Connection Sharing to work between my hardwired Ethernet connection to the Internet and the USB connection to the raspberry pi zero. It was set up correctly, but just wouldn't allow the Pi Zero's USB connection to communicate with the Internet no matter what I tried. I was able to work around this however by creating a "wpa_supplicant.conf" file, which allowed the Pi Zero to connect directly to my wifi network and get to the Internet that way. (The USB connection still works too, which is more convenient for SSH'ing into the Pi Zero). Once connected to the Internet, I wasn't able to install XRDP using the apt-get command - but found that the apt command worked if I spelled "xrdp" in lower case. I was also able to use apt-get to update and upgrade the Pi Zero's OS too!
An issue I found with this is that I couldn't SSH into it, I had to boot it up with a display & Mouse and go into the config settings and enable SSH & VNC. FYI

pi zero is real handy........i know that if you run the tinycore os on it.......it's very fast. you can do professional digital audio work on a pi zero..........tinycore os has the tools in it's free apps list tools such as "non mixer" "non timeline" are full DAW tools for professional audio. The free tools support linux vst plugins and windows vst's for audio work. the pi zero is no toy........it can be used for professional purposes when running OS's such as "tinycore linux R Pi" free os.

CheapAssReviews nah I used my pi 3 to configure the raspbian image(not with pixel) then put it on the device to connected to the internet then I SSH to it
Ended up getting it to work. For people with the same problem on Windows 10. (Shows up as COM3, COM4, or not at all) Had to plug it into a windows 7 machine and get it configured to work on there. Then what I did was power it on using the usb power, then after about 90 seconds when it was fully booted, I plugged in the other usb to the computer as instructed. The rest of the directions went smooth as ice. Should also mention that to get the remote desktop to work on windows 7, I had to install sudo apt-get install tightvncserver . Anyway haxhxm, you're the man. Peace.

Hello yes what i had to do is Install on the raspberry pi i had to install remote desktop server on the Pi zero. For me to get it to work.

The pi is recognised as a unknown usb device. Also the right driver just isnt there.. Someone got a solution for that problem?

ICS makes it own network. So the pi would be NATed behind them PC. Though I don't see why you couldn't bridge it also.

Ended up getting it to work. For people with the same problem on Windows 10. (Shows up as COM3, COM4, or not at all) Had to plug it into a windows 7 machine and get it configured to work on there. Then what I did was power it on using the usb power, then after about 90 seconds when it was fully booted, I plugged in the other usb to the computer as instructed. The rest of the directions went smooth as ice. Should also mention that to get the remote desktop to work on windows 7, I had to install sudo apt-get install tightvncserver . Anyway haxhxm, you're the man. Peace.
out of curiousity, why format a sd card you are about to image? it makes no sense.
