Also, in case it helps anyone, I couldn't download the drivers directly in the window that pops up when you click "Download". So I just right clicked the hyperlink in that pop up window, copied the path, and pasted it in a new tab. Instantly started downloading.
I watched 3 or 4 tutorials before I found this one. None of them had me add the ssh file. I followed this tutorial WITH the ssh file and it's working. Thank you so very much.

Bonjour allows you to edit your hosts file on windows making the raspberrypi.local route to the ip address of the Pi. The same effect can be done by right click on the windows button and then device manager, find the device and install the drivers. Alternatively you could find your hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) and edit it to say that raspberrypi.local is to be redirected to your Pi's ip. This will only do it for that IP however and when you unplug the device and plug it in again, DCHP will dynamically allocate it a new IP address and you'll have to edit the file again. This is why it's advisable to just install the drivers for the Pi.

The com port drive update did not work as Windows always said best drive already installed but after more searching what worked for me was following the part about Windows Update as an 'optional update' in the link Windows 10 RNDIS driver problems - Raspberry Pi Forums.
I have 2 questions: 1. Is the rndis folder supposed to be only VST_RNDIS.cat and VST_RNDIS.inf? 2. On the USB Serial Device properties, the options 'Update Driver', 'Roll Back Driver', 'Disable Device', 'Uninstall Device' are all grayed out. How do I fix that? Edit: Issue in question 2 was fixed, but now there's a new issue: It doesn't update the driver and says "The best drivers are automatically installed" Edit 2: I forgot about this comment, but everything has been fixed.
Ssh was successful. But now there is another problem. Internet is not available on Pi. How do i get internet on Pi ao that I can update and install softwares on it?
If I have a USB to Network connector, will that work as a way of getting into the pi, could I plug this straight into my router and access the PI that way ?

My Pi Zero W, earlier had a working wifi but few days back I set it up again afresh using Raspberry Pi Imager..and since then wlan0 is missing even though bluetooth works fine. Any suggestions to fix this issue would be appreciated 😀

What do you do when it doesn't let you update the drivers?
you need to open cab file and copy paste the containing files in new folder, then give the folder path
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo rpi update
The driver with name "" Acer Incorporated. - Other hardware - Acer Netchip RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" worked for me.

In Windows 10, can download the drivers, but still getting the "this is the best driver for this" - any idea on a fix for that?
After you download rndis driver, it comes in cab file, you need to go in grab file and extract into the folder.

you need to enter the rpi and type "sudo raspi-config" then go to advanced options and go to network config, there shoud be an option named ""dhcpcd"
