      +DLiberator78 The second batch only lasted a couple of days it seems -- and even then the bare boards went in a few hours from every retailer I was stalking out. Of all the recent rash of Pi Zero vids, this really is an excellent Masterclass in it - thorough without being overwhelming.
    I can see an excellent future for this board and its successors: surely it can't too long now that the Pi Foundation will release the Pi3 chip on a Zero board and that really will take off.
    Chris, do you think it's time that we considered some form of (passive?) cooling for the chip, now? Just a simple heat-sink is better than nothing, surely?
    Also, of all the years we have been indoctrinated about static electricity on our bodies zapping the delicate circuitry on a chip and now we handle a bare Pi as though it's a toy.... what happened to the threat of static electricity?
    Chris, you've made Sundays interesting again. What with the rubbish on tv and radio, your Sunday video is a welcome treat.
    All the best; I'm sure there's many of us (silent ones) who wish a great week to you and yours and thanks again for another great video!

    • @ExplainingComputers
      @ExplainingComputers  8 лет назад +1

      +Kevin H Hi Kevin, and thanks for this. Here we are again! My Pi Zero and Pi 3 came in antistatic bags, and I handle them very carefully off camera. But as you say, the worry has gone. Yet handle a Pi camera without static precautions, and that is a whole different matter . . .

Its external interfaces are the same as the Raspberry Pi Zero W, and it will fit almost all cases and accessories for the Zero W. It uses the quad-core Cortex A7 Allwinner H2+ processor, with 512MB RAM. It's ideal for light-weight systems and space-limited applications

      Depends on the resolution! 480p, certainly. 1080p will struggle. Browser will need h.264ify plugin.

      Probably a power issue, are you using a USB hub? Make sure it's a powered one, this little guy doesn't really output much.

      I'll be definitely watching the pi 3 vid!
      I've found the raspbian desktop, openelec media centre and retropie retro game emulator software to be noticeably faster on the pi3b but not as big a leap as the rpi2 was over the rpi3. Still impressed by this tiny, low power, low cost computer considering what we had 20 years ago.
      Maybe the various raspberry OSes will see more improvement when they get optimised in the coming weeks and months.
      The biggest advantage has to be the onboard wifi and bluetooth!

    Is there any way I could use a keyboard and mouse? Do they make micro usb port expanders?

    • @ExplainingComputers
      @ExplainingComputers  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, you can use a hub or USB splitter to attach a mouse and a keyboard. Works fine providing you do not attach a high-power hub.

    • @ExplainingComputers
      @ExplainingComputers  4 года назад +1

      Any micro USB power supply offering 5V at 1A or more should work fine with a Pi Zero (W). They are not as power hungry as the larger Pis. So most phone chargers should work. :)

      +Oh Tech School Indeed -- there is a nice little hub sold by Pimoroni that provides WiFi and two USB connectors. Though at £10, it is over twice the price of the Zero in the first place! shop.pimoroni.com/products/usb-hub-and-wi-fi-adaptor

  • @hasansalim1868
    @hasansalim1868 8 лет назад

    Hi Chris. When I first saw the title of the new video, it just come to my mind that I am going to see an in depth comparison with other single board computers or at least with other family members. But it is not the case. So, shall we expect to see a video with more detailed comparison in the future?
    BTW: It is a nice video :)

    • @ExplainingComputers
      @ExplainingComputers  8 лет назад +2

      +Hasan Salim I do give a (brief) comparison with the other Pi models! There is a limit to the depth I can give in a short video. But I will be returning to the Zero (and other Pis) very soon. In fact, next week's video is the Pi 3 (compared to the Pi 2), and does include some more detailed performance tests. :)

    something i have been trying to find out. that everywhere i look online seems to avoid even approaching: can the pi zero run the raspbian-pixel environment? i like pixel because it is pretty and because it also apparently has refined and upgraded functions closer to a current desktop computer.
