i know this isnt anything to do with the coils, but where is the fuel pump if it has one?,i have almost the same engine and used this very helpful video to do some tests because mine wont start...(looks like it hasnt been touched since 1974),engine is black oil inside but no petrol so i think its the pump? cant find the info on any other video for these early models.
What is an "H tealeaf" I couldn't understand the 'British English". I have the same motor, but it's a circa 86 or 1988 Johnson Sail Twin. Mine was running just fine when the RPMs declined, the motor backfired, and five minutes later quit, and we noticed an intense odor of burnt insulation. My coils contacts etc. were just replaced a few years ago, and it didn't run on one cylinder, so I'm suspecting something major coming up from the magneto. I hope it isn't the magneto itself. The local OB repair place now won't work on any OB older than 1990. Sigh. The OB is so light, and my back is so bad, that I've just got to fix this baby.
H tealeaf..... haha, so funny. I'm actually saying " HT lead". The High Tension lead that goes from the coil pack to the spark plug. I know we broody love our cup of tea though.
I have the same motor I just did a carb service hoping it will fix my issues... I think they built this series 79-87 with the like cowl and graphics. Great video hope it's all good thanks
@@RichardBrocklesby101 I try to remove the top or lid that covers the ignition parts. has loosened a bolt but can not lift the lock by hand Google translate 😇
@@p81dap51 you need to make a puller (like the wooden thing with 4 bolts). The three small outside bolts screw into the cover. The big one in the middle will push down onto the centre and then it will pull the cover off. You can not remove the cover any other way.
@@RichardBrocklesby101 I built a puller out of a steel plate and it sat tight I can say. now the lid is off, yippee. I have no spark on the spark plugs do you know what to look for first? thanks for a great video 👍
Interesting. Gave me the courage and inspiration to try and service my petrol lawnmower engine.

Nice small engine. If it is for sale let me know
Hi, very many thanks for this guide. What size machine screws screw into the flywheel for the puller? I’m guessing they are not metric

I've got the exact engine with the same problem.
Finding the parts was the hardest part.
@@SailingFreeSpirit yes I've found some parts but not the exact part numbers you gave. Although they look compatible. This project has learnt me a lot
