Isaiahs story is the most heartbreaking of all to me. God bless his soul in heaven. I cry every time I see his funeral video. Thank you for sharing this. Omg how sad. The solar lights by his headstone so he'll never be alone in the dark. I lost it.
@Zeben Solomon They are ALL heartbreaking, but not equally to every person. Just as Jason's comments prove, there are certain victims of this tragedy for whom the loss is profoundly more heartbreaking to certain people than the others. And that's perfectly OK. None of them deserved to die those tragic deaths, but then none of us has the right to try to reconfigure somebody ELSE'S truth and pain. I have read MANY accounts from MANY people who have said the same thing Jason said...Isaiah's death stung differently...more deeply for them. That does not have to be construed as a slight or an affront to any of the other victims. It is what it is.
@Zeben Solomon Well said. Everybody has their "truth" and specific ways they identify with these tragedies. I tend to try to respect everybody's view/feelings about it all. Thanks much for your feedback.
@@02WIFE that’s an absurd comparison. He wasn’t murdered because he was black. They called him a slur to be dehumanizing but would have killed him regardless.

I actually lived in Denver/Aurora from 2006-2007 but never got around to visiting, but the 20-year anniversary had it heavy on my mind. As well, 2020 marked not only his 40th birthday, but also 40 years since I witnessed my own sister being shot. My heart breaks for the family of Isaiah Shoels particularly hard. Not that my heart doesn't break for the families of the twelve other people who lost their lives at Columbine High School that dark day; but I just feel especially sorry for the Shoels family. Isaiah was murdered simply because he was one of the very few black students at Columbine. In a bizarre twist the Shoels family had planned to move in a few weeks; but Isaiah convinced his parents to stay because it was his senior year, so Isaiah understandably wanted to graduate on time and with his friends. If the rumors that Isaiah's dad Michael Shoels has passed away happen to be true; I would consider it a blessing in disguise because it means that he is reunited with his son in Heaven. If you are ever at the Columbine Memorial and you see a flock of geese flying overhead; it's like the spirits of the thirteen lives lost are flying into the freedom of the sky. To be honest, I couldn't bring myself to visit the Columbine Memorial in Colorado, the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, or the Will Norton Miracle Field in Joplin, Missouri. While many know about the first two places; the Will Norton Miracle Field in Joplin, Missouri is a baseball diamond and playground for disabled children to have a place to play baseball and enjoy themselves on a playground designed with them in mind. It was named in honor of Will Norton; an eighteen year-old boy who lost his life in the tornado that devastated Joplin, Missouri on May 22nd, 2011. Will had just graduated from Joplin High School with the class of 2011 and was on his way home from the graduation ceremony with his dad Mark Norton. They were only minutes away from their home when the tornado struck; Will was sucked out of his SUV through the sunroof and drowned in a pond not far from his home. I hope that someday I can go to the Joplin area and leave a bouquet of roses on Will's grave to pay my respects.

Thank you for sharing. Indeed, they are all special and to be remembered and honored. But I continue to emphasize and explain to people that this project was to honor what would’ve been Isaiah‘s 40th birthday. It was not an intentional snub or omission of any of the others who perished that day. ALL of the Columbine victims have their own memorykeepers and places online and elsewhere where they are remembered and celebrated, and that is a beautiful thing. I still contend that they deserve to be remembered individually as much as they are remembered collectively. As such, I have mixed feelings about people who post comments like this one in an attempt to correct my emphasis and focus on Isaiah. It needs no correction, addition or modification at all. (Well, except for the shaky parts of my footage that one lady commented on. Yes, that needs work, LOL! 😂) Thank you all the same though. 🤗
No he didn’t deserve what happened to him. None of them deserved what happen. God bless his family, friends and the entire Columbine community. God bless you too!
I still cry over this!! I willaways wonder what the victims of columbine(13) would be doing now? What kind of moms and dads they would be? What occupation would they be doing?
I remember what happened I was in my senior year as well they had the news on the school televisions in all the classrooms that day. That was how I knew about it because we could not turn on the television anytime we wanted when I was in the group home.
I use to know some one who was friends with Rachel Scott and I heard Craig’s story of survival that day a few months later. I was a senior in HS that day myself and was forever changed by this shooting. I told Rachel’s friend she was among those killed, after telling her they haven’t gotten in touch because of the event. I never dreamt I would be that person to break that news. RIP to all 13 killed that day.
Thanks for commenting @WickedlyMe328...and for sharing. That had to be incredibly difficult for you. To lost someone that under these tragic circumstances is hard to accept it. I was friends with three who lost on that tragic day on April 20th, 1999, and yesterday was the 23-year anniversary of the Columbine High School tragedy, and I did message one of my friend who lost his son that day.
@@Yuhon100 Thank you for sharing. I hope that your heart has continued to heal from the loss of your friends. Do you mind sharing with us the message you did for your friend?
@@carolcielle Actually it is my friends' sons who lost their lives on that tragic day on April 20th, 1999.
Rest In Peace Isaiah Shoels.😇😇Happy 40 th .
What a beautiful tribute
Thank you, Diana, for watching.
He was one of the victims that touched my heart. I’ve never met him but it made me sad ( and sick) that he was killed for his skin color
One of the shooters called him ni**er before killing him (I'm white so I just blocked the two g so don't get offended please)
He wasn’t killed because of his skin color. They wanted to kill everyone in the school and in their writings they called out minorities, Christians, as well as white people. They literally just hated people.
Isaiah got buried in his graduation gown and cap that made me cry like a baby so sad
@@pho3nixinflight They found Isaiah and wanted him to suffer so they took advantage that he was there
Wow! He would have been 40. So sad for Isaiah and all the young kids. Prayers for their families
Beautiful tribute! May he forever rest in Christ Jesus! Much love & peace to his family and friends!
God bless your heart it takes a certain type of individual to do what you're doing and keeping their memories alive. God bless you hon ❤❤
I appreciate your kind words. Thanks a bunch for watching. ❤️❤️❤️
His resting place is just one of the many that should have never came at such a young age every life taken away that day by those two heartless demons is so heartbreaking but Isaiah’s story breaks my heart more he was targeted for the color of his skin which is just so heartbreaking and cruel I never knew him in life but he is my brother in Christ such a handsome young man my heart still breaks and aches for his family among all the others may he rest in peace in paradise in the arms of Jesus among the angels Isaiah you will always be loved and remembered always for such a sweet soul as you were in the short time you were here rest easy sweet child of God
Well said. He, nor any of them, didn’t deserve such a tragic end to their young lives. Thanks for watching and commenting. 💖💖💖
Rest in peace to everyone from Columbine and also the Texas school shooting
R.I.P brother.
God bless the Shoals family who have always conducted themselves with dignity and love for their sweet child 🙏💜
Well said. 🙏
Rest well Isaiah

Im so sorry I cant even imagine your pain. :(
Thank you, and thanks for your comments. The visit brought me to tears, but the hurt I feel for him and his family certainly pales in comparison to theirs. I don't know them personally. I have other reasons that I feel particularly close to Isaiah's story.

Beautiful song, so nice of you to honor him and pay him a visit.
Thank you, Fernando,
My daughter is 32 now. She lost a classmate when they were 8 from an auto accident. Whenever my daughter would have a “milestone”. High school, proms, graduation, etc. I think of Jordy and his family. All he and his family have missed.
RIP to your daughter's classmate. Very thoughtful of you and yours to keep him at the center of your memories on those special days. Death is a certain part of life...and no doubt the hardest part! Especially when it's young, innocent children. :-(

Thank you all the same though. 🤗
I am sorry for all the families and the kids that got killed rest in peace I have love for all the kids and the families.
Thanks I live in Colorado I am planning on visiting his grave.
I live in Colorado where it happened I still pray for the families.
No he didn’t deserve what happened to him. None of them deserved what happen. God bless his family, friends and the entire Columbine community. God bless you too!
Thank you, Shea.
I still cry over this!! I willaways wonder what the victims of columbine(13) would be doing now? What kind of moms and dads they would be? What occupation would they be doing?
Me, too. Definitely something to think about. It's so terribly unfortunate that they all lost their lives so senselessly.
Rest In Peace Isaiah!💔💔💔
I sure hope that you're doing well these days and somehow found a way over the years to get beauty from the ashes of this tragedy. And I hope somewhere and somehow you've told your own story/experience of that day. Blessings to you and yours.

He could have had children today at age 18, the age that he died.
I think I get what you're saying...he's been gone long enough now to have had kids that age by now, had he lived and had the chance. You are so right.
It is very awful what happened to him, and there is still lots of evil in this world the comfort comes from knowing he is in a better place.
So sad gone but not forgotten!!!!!!
Very sorry for all the victims...but when you have to hear hateful words ...even worse ...these criminals were really small minded evil beings...Your are with Jesus now Isaiah you are safe now...Prayers.

WOW! Interesting...and very sad. It would seem he would've at least been represented for football and/or wrestling. Definitely makes me wonder...
I have had this exact thought since I learned about this tragedy. It seems like there is only one picture that exists of him.
