Not only does that prevent any progress being made on this issue but it's a real disconnection from humanity and compassion. To verbally assault two people that are dead is so counterproductive and you're engaging in some of the same behavior that lead to this event happening. People just like a bad guy figure to hate, that's why we're always at war. There has to be an enemy that we despise. People feel like if they can label them psychopathic and evil that that distances any similarities they have to them. They like to believe that the average person, like someone in their family, isn't capable of this; but we've had plenty of examples that nearly anyone can fall victim to this mindset.

I mean to pray for your own son to die, and then get the shock of your life seeing your own son on video saying these hateful things and to see the guns and bombs.... Then to find out about the depresion, cutting, and the suicidal thoughts he was thinking and feeling thru his journal. And to realize he was keeping all of this bottled up. Even to find out about the bullying from a few of his friends. She had no idea. And how he kept everything a secret is beyond me.
      She makes not excuses for him... What so ever. In fact she was angry at him when she saw the basement tapes, and disgusted. But she offers some intersting insite and a form of understanding as to what was going through Dylan's mind. I mean how could a smart, seemingly kind, shy, reclusive but likeable guy pull a horrific and devistating stunt like this right? her book explains it.

      Lord Megatron the way he handled the situation after? Is it the principals fault for the shooting? The parents? At the end of the day, it was Eric’s and Dylan’s fault. Every single teenager is going through something in high school. To put that whole fault in the principle is a stretch

    • @lordmegatron2698

      Ashley Saavedra or the counselors fault who saw their class journals and knew they were high risk. Maybe the Principal for not stopping the bullies who constantly attacked Eric and Dylan. Maybe the bullies themselves! Everyone was at fault here. Don’t blame just the gunman! We all make society work that includes mental health monitoring

    • @ProfessorSassypants
      @ProfessorSassypants 4 года назад +44

      Lord Megatron the gunmen are the only ones at fault. There are lots of people who’s actions could potentially have changed their paths but I find it incredibly disrespectful of you to say it was anyone but the gunmen’s faults.

      Lord Megatron every school sadly deals with bullying. But if every student that was bullied reacted the way Eric and Dylan did and shot up their school, than every counselor and principal in the world would be at fault. Thankfully now we are more aware and have grown better into preventing these things from happening. But you have to understand that at the time, school shootings weren’t a thing to prevent because they weren’t happen. No one was shooting up their school for revenge. We now are more aware of the signs and things to look out for thankfully.

      Where did you get your information from?
      I’m asking because I think Dylan did fit in but probably was super insecure and he was having suicidal thoughts. Eric was sort of weird they said but he was a manipulator. They Eric was violent and out of his mind plus the columbine bullies added to the destructive behavior. The true question is was it nuture or nature or a combination of both. Dylan was graduating that year and going to college what would make him shoot a school. Suicide which turned aggressive because of bullies and Eric.

I was sitting with him and a friend at lunch when my other friend approached the guy and he got up and acted like he was going to walk away! He reached in his coat and pulled out his gun! I was so shocked I just sat there! My girlfriend pulled on me telling me we had to go! I got up and went into the building and my childhood friend followed us! The guy with the gun followed us too! He fired a shot at my friend and my friend turned and looked at me and said son of a bitch that hurts! More shots were fired it was complete chaos! I got pushed out the back of the building and the lady in front of me got hit with fragments! I ran around another building and seen my friend laying on the ground dying! I had to testify at the trial! I live with this everyday! This happened in 1988! I just think maybe I could of saved his life or stopped it! I am scared of guns, loud noises and big crowds! I currently live in a secure building! I have been diagnosed with PTSD! When Columbine happened I pulled my kid out of school! I live in IL! Nobody speaks of this in my hometown! I moved 30 miles away and rarely go back anymore! I guess I have survivors guilt at 47 years old! I also don't understand how the guy who did it has been out of jail for almost 30 years! School shooting have been happening since for me since 1988! How have they not figured out how to stop this! Each time one happens it brings back all these memories! Needless to say there was another school shooting 8 miles from Columbine the other day! RIP Robert " Toto" Johnson!

    What a great thing Frank is doing and I'm so happy he's a resource for others who've sadly been through the same thing. It's just too bad that that work has ever been necessary in the first place.

    Lauren Townsend loved animals and volunteered at animal shelters and was going to be a vet. Pretty sure she never bulled either of those monsters. Yet Dylan shot her an astounding EIGHT times, she died comforting her friends telling them it would be ok. For good measure, Eric shot her again after she had died. She was the valedictorian and had such a bright future. I feel for all the victims of course but she - at least for me - is the saddest death of them all. RIP Lauren and all the other victims. Dylan and Eric may you burn in hell.

    Beautifully done. That tragic day will live on in infamy. But the healing is so apparent today. The wounds of that day do heal with life’s band aids, but some scars never go away. Prayers always with the family’s,the ones who aren’t with us today. And of course the the ones who survived and live with the tragic memories of that awful day! 🙏🏽❤️💯

    I was in 8th grade. I was one of the weird kids
    I went to a regular high school for a year and a half. In that time my friends and I were treated like we would be kids who would shoot up the school, even teachers treated us like that. Alot of my teachers didn't even know my name. I did get bullied but I didn't care about that. I was tired ended being stuck with shitty ass teachers. I ended up dropping out and going to an alternative high school where I got along just fine. Even with the teachers. I was weird, I had black hair, my best friend was a goth with blue hair, but there wasn't anything wrong with us. Columbine was tragic and I am sorry it happened. But regardless of if those boys were bullied or not they sure fucked up high school for a lot of us weird kids who just wanted to be weird and not looked at like we would be the next to shoot up the school.

    I was born after Columbine. And for a long time it didn’t hit me. When I was a teen it didn’t hit me. But having turned 20 and rewatching it with a bit more maturity and less teenage angst I feel it now. More than 20 years after it happened I can grasp the impact and it pains me to realise the amount of pain it caused.

    I was 22 years old and a college student. I heard about it on the radio on the way to my church's Bible study. No smartphones back then. Young people nowadays cannot imagine that school shootings were incredibly rare, basically unheard of. It was truly shocking to every American. I later met a girl whose older brother attended Columbine high school when this happened. Hearing her perspective was an honor.

    A slightly irritating thing that I keep finding in comment sections of different columbine documentaries and such is that people believe bullying was the cause when it very much wasn't. Dylan and Eric were both very friendly and had many friends. Dylan was depressed and suicidal for different reasons than bullying and was manipulated by Eric to believe that killing others was the answer for his pain. Eric wrote in a diary of sorts about what he wanted to do and his thoughts. It's believed that Eric was completely unstable and had a superiority complex and was borderline psychotic. Dylan just met the wrong person at the wrong time in his life. In a sense Eric controlled dylans thoughts, making him believe that this is how they should go out. Showing other people the pain that they felt. Dylan saw it as a way to end his own life. I feel just as bad as the victims of the shooting as I do for Dylan and Eric. It was all senseless death that could have been stopped if people paid attention to their actions. I recently watched a documentary about Sue Klebold (Dylan's mother) who said that she regrets not attending to her sons mental health better. Now she's an activist for mental health and suicide prevention. Yes bullying is an issue but it is not the reason.
    Many school shootings are actually prompted by motivation from other school shootings. It's almost as if there's a pattern. The most important thing to remember is that hurt people hurt people. In lots of cases it's bullying but Dylan and Eric decided to hurt people in the most painful way possible.

      They were picked on occassionally, not bullied in the way the term "bullied" means. But with minds that were already twisted and dangerous. Those jocks and others who could be mean to Eric and Dylan played a part in fueling the rage to the level they lost the contact with reality, but mostly Eric sounded like a spoiled brat who got very angry and aggressive if life showed it was not all about him. And Dylan sounded like a depressed kid that had no will of his own and would do anything to please Eric who he might have thought of as the only one who accepted him. And oh my god did especially Dylan yearn for that. It is not a simple formula why they did this. But everything had a part in it. These kids should have been locked in, because trying to reach out would not had helped them. Since january 1998 everything points in the direction they would not have accepted help anymore. They were too far gone. Sorry, a long answer...but that "bullying" people talk about had a part in this but just one piece of puzzle, not the reason.

    • @pontusbackman6679
      @pontusbackman6679 5 лет назад +4

      I do not remember where I heard it from but somewhere Eric stated "picking on others" were a part of human nature, therefore he made it sound the so called bullying made him think he needed to punish the human race. So no. Bullying was not the plain reason. But since he already was fueled with rage, obsessed with death etc.. it was a reason.

      Sorry but thats nonsense and you're clearly going off people like dave cullen's viewpoint, if you had done proper research and studied the case thoroughly you would see statements from students who witnessed the bullying first hand, not to mention all the other evidence that shows how much they were tormented on a daily basis without any help from teachers and other staff memebers

    I feel bad for the principle. The kids would have been 36 this year. Lauren and Rachel both probably would be helping the world. Rachael in the mission field probably. That man god bless him must still have guilt or nightmares to this day and haunted by the ghosts of the past. I can’t imagine god bless him I want to hug him. I’m sure most of the students have forgiven him in the afterlife and don’t want him to blame himself.
