This is so much better than most of the sitcoms I watched in the 90s. I tried watching Friends again after a decade plus and just couldn’t do it anymore. This is more my speed

When I watched a few Friends episodes recently, I couldn't believe how out-of-touch the characters were. Poor kids, having those "shitty" New York apartments. So "oppressed" and whiny. lol It's kind of hilarious, but in a bad way.
This is a very sweet episode. Father Stone isn't really a bad guy. Probably just a bit simple and the reveal that he thinks of Ted and his visits as the best thing in his life says a lot, especially when you meet the abusive father.
he is also a real mammys boy too. mammy thinks the world of him more than the father. and maybe i could be wrong, but the nana might have dementia or another form of illness. she doesnt seem like she cares much for anyone. its not mentioned in the show but that is the irish mentality

It's interesting to note that part of the reason that Father Ted had a change of heart towards Father Stone is because his dad came in and verbally trashed him. Father Ted related to that which is foreshadowed in the waiting room where he described himself as the idiot son who became a priest and his parent's preference for his brother who became a doctor.

Thanks for uploading these. I'm stuck in Italy at the moment, for the last 4 months, and being an Irish lad, these episodes warm up the pot of stew at the bottom of me heart and bring back fond memories of home. Missing the old place

Just want to say thanks for having the whole series on here. This show is one that my family can quote anytime. We've grown up watching it and it's great having it right here to just look up and forget about the problems of the world for a bit.
2:13 - 3:17 Best part... That's me when you're trying to have a conversation with me. That scene could have been going on for several more minutes with Ted trying to start up a conversation and Paul giving terse answers not leading anywhere. It would have been hilarious, and relatable.

This must be my 6th or 7th time going thru this series. I consider EVERY episode a classic. There’s not a stinker in there. I think these will be regarded as brilliant sit coms like ,,forever!!! Of course I loved Fawlty Towers and Blackadder, but these are just so re-watchable.. the laughs are there always . Like the first time watching.. I’ve turned a dozen people onto “Ted”,, And almost all of them agree. Worth the watch is an understatement. It’s a must

Barnaby ap Robert I don't think so actually. It's a lot harder than it seems to steal the show while saying nothing at all, to stay in character so fantastically and to react rather than to act. Frank Kelly was the real deal.
Actually Frank Kelly hated having to just sit there and do nothing, he was a theatre actor and they only gave him three words to say, the other actors used to feel sorry for him cos the writers never gave him anything to do.
He reminds me of me. :D But am I the only one who sympathises with him? I mean, they say "I thought he would've got the message by now" while pretending like they don't mind seeing him. Just tell him, for god's sake! And why are they even trying to entertain him? He doesn't require it, they can just go on with their lives, why not? And I can totally relate to him when Dougal asks him stuff like "Have you seen ___ lately?" and "He must be about 80 now?". People do ask questions like this sometimes. And what is a person supposed to say to that? If you want to have a conversation, have a conversation. Don't just ask random stuff you don't really care about.

In retrospect it doesn't seem so bad to me. If all this is what it takes for him to feel such appreciation and gratitude, I honestly don't mind having him sitting like a lump. Such people don't naturally deter my friends from talking.
People always cite "Are You Right There Father Ted" as the best Father Ted episode, but as much as I love that "So I hear you're a racist now Father" scene, this episode for me is the best Father Ted episode. Ted, for all his scheming and materialistic desires, is a good man and this episode really shows the full gambit of his personality, and even gives us a nice redemption arc in under 25 minutes! Often times characters don't really change or grow in an episode, like "Are You Right There Father Ted", funny as it is, Ted is the same man at the end of the episode as he was at the start, but this episode has Ted still slightly put off by Father Stone, but at the end he's changed and at the very least content to have Stone visit.
it's far too early in the series to really appreciate it, but Stone being the only thing to deter Mrs. Doyle from serving tea is highly telling.
