    Struts do look great! Nothing like the sound of an Allison V12 going through its paces in the background while you are working on you project! Looks great!

    More good progress and looking better and better ever episode. And great to get a brief glimpse of a P-40, I love those planes, one of the unsung heroes of the second world war.

    Great work Scott. The 'wooden' struts look so real. Thanks again for the video. I look forward to them like I used to look forward to my weekly 'comic' subscription as a kid. But I would love to watch you doing more sanding 😝 Keep up the good work 👍🏻

    I really like the way the struts turned out! The average person will think it's real wood with a very glossy finish. Of course, the best part is no further painting, covering, etc ... they're done! It just occurred to me, however, did you ever give consideration to attempting a faux wood finish with paint? Not sure how that would work on such a smooth surface as sheet metal and certainly would be more fiddly and time-consuming.

    The wrap on the struts make it look like a huge model kit it's brilliant, a great idea

    The struts look absolutely awesome, well worth the cost and time to wrap. It is going to pay of big time in the looks department when the wings are on.

    Great videos Scott. I've been following your progress on the Sopwith Camel project for some time now. Love the attention to detail and the quality of work you produce. Just one small criticism .... please sort out your microphone and sound!

    Looking good and I'm learning useful tips for mine when I get to this stage, in a few years! Enjoying the vids 🙂 A quick heads up, it appears the hand hold in your centre wing has been covered up and not cut out.

      Yep, the hand hold is there if needed but in practice i don't think it is required.

    Hi, Scott!
    Nice progress! Looks really good!
    When ironing finish tapes, using my non-dominant (left) hand was better at detecting raised edges than my dominant (right) hand. So whenever my left fingers found a raised edge, the hot iron in my right hand easily flattened it out. I 'ran' every edge, everywhere. The first pass took a long time, the second pass was much quicker, and the third pass picked up stragglers. I'm sure there are some that I missed, but they'd be tough to find.
    How does ironing on top of the paint work out compared to ironing before painting?
    Wings next! Good luck!

      The iron works okay over paint. Kind of welds the tape down but wrecks the finish.

      In your videos the iron appears to be a "dial" type. I started with one of these, but changed to a digital iron simply for the uniformity and consistency of its temperature. Indeed, in some of the longer ironing sessions, the digital display showed the temperature cooling - when that happened, I just waited for the temp to rise to target, and then carried on. Hard to know this on the dial version. The "books" describe calibrating a non-digital iron but it was tedious! Maybe the finish paint got too hot from the imprecision of the dial?

      Pretty sure a digital would just take an average. I do most by feel. Also to tight and the airframe will distort.

    G'day Scott,
    Yay Team !
    One is
    Indeed...,
    Enraptured ; with the
    Printed-Vinyl
    Wrapped Aluminium Fairings over the Cabane & Interplane (Underlying Tubular) Struts.
    Perhaps a pedantic Purist might have wanted a
    Leading-Edge Fillet of Balsa on each one, to give the Spars a Streamline
    Rather than these
    "Stylised Teardrop"
    Cross-Sections...
    But, the pedantic Purists probably all stopped watching - at about the Welded Steel-Tube Fuselage, Riveted Aluminium Wings, Radial Powerplant and Clark-Y Section Aerofoils on the Wingribs....(!).
    Your attitude to those Rebelliously
    Recalcitrant
    Pinked little Pinnacles of
    Tape is very
    "Japanese"...;
    "Whomsoever sticks their
    Head
    Up...;
    Is always the very
    First...,
    to be
    Hammered FLAT....!"
    Though in your case,
    You
    Immobilise them and stiffen their resolve, by painting them ;
    And when dry you
    Grind their Heads off
    Flat...,
    For their very
    Temerity.
    (How dare they resist ?) !
    Such is life,
    Have a good one...
    Stay safe.
    ;-p
    Ciao !
