Spectacular. Have been listening to the Kinks since elementary school. British envasion was wonderful. The Kinks have always been at the top. This is coming from a black man who loves rock n roll. Father Christmas is my all time favorite Christmas song. Along with Donnie Hathaway's Christmas song. Great songs, both of them.

1977 I was 19, It’s my favorite Christmas song then and now. “Have yourself a merry merry Christmas have yourself a good time but remember the kids who have nothing while you’re drinking down your wine”. That’s the true meaning of this song. More Kinks songs, “Lola”, “You Really Got Me”, “All Day and All of the Night”, “Victoria”,

My favorite Christmas song ever. I heard this song on the radio in the 80s and I fell in love with it.

Here in working class Philadelphia, we grew up with this song on the radio every holiday, at least through the mid-eighties. I can only assume that it isn't as well known or played is because, like too many Kinks' songs, it makes too many people uncomfortable.
Interestingly, I see that you two actually listened through the entire Arthur album about a year ago, a reaction of yours that I thoroughly enjoyed, but that The Kinks must have fallen hard off of your radar since, which is a shame, as it appears that you would both really love a deep dive into their extensive catalogue.
    Keep up the good work!

This is one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time, they used to play it on classic rock radio through the 80s all the time around Christmas time

The Kinks are the most under-rated band in rock history; the fact that you have never heard their songs is just par for the course.

Dude with the beard, "how had I never heard of this song," how had you never heard of the KINKS for the luvva Jesus! I bet you remember "You Really Got Me" because you heard the Van Halen cover version. Anyway, dig in to the Kinks, me boy, and discover the best of the British Invasion bands. Great albums from 1964 to 1984 (after that, well, a few good songs here and there). You can never listen to enough KINKS.

This is where The Kinks almost became punk. Great, slightly underestimated band.

The Kinks were punk in 1964 with You Really Got Me and All Day and All of the Night (and much else); this, if anything, marked their return after the 1970 to 1975 hiatus, and came out around the time of their Sleepwalker album.

Basically this song says give people money who need it. Not stupid toys that really mean nothing

"I believe in father christmas" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer is also a great song. In my humble opinion I think it is better than this by Kinks.

Please actually listen to the words and realize it's poor kids saying give us money, screw your stupid toys, my Dad needs a job, and give me a machine gun so I can impress my friends ... its from a poor kid's point of view. Great punk song, but not supposed to be funny once you listen to it. Think about the kids who got nothin', while you're drinking down your wine... that's the message...
