john paul young (musical artist),i hate the music
Hi Guys, you have reacted to John Paul Young (JPY) before with "Yesterday's Hero". Here is another classic 70's Aussie rock song by "squeek" our nickname for JPY when his voice was breaking :) This was filmed on Sydney Harbour while JPY was on a barge. sorry for the poor-quality video but this was more than 40 years ago! enjoy, i know i will!
Am forever amazed that this was written by Vanda & Young, the same team that wrote a lot of AC/DC hits
Think John Paul Young was born in Scotland and emigrated to Australia much like Jimmy Barnes and the AC/DC boys did. So they probably would help out each other in their musical careers if they could. But 1976 is still really early for Jimmy Barnes as Cold Chisel yet to have an album out at that point. But AC/DC were well and truly on their way by then with a few albums and Bon Scott fronting them. I was too young as a child to know any of them in 1976 but certainly John Paul Young was worshipped by the teenage girls. Fairly sure one of my older sisters had a photo of him on their bedroom wall. He certainly could sing though. Do not remember hearing him much by time I was a teenager as the 1980's went on so he clearly was a big local pop star in the mid to late 70's when Abba, Oliva Newton-John, Rod Stewart, Qeeen, Bee Gees, Skyhooks and Sherbet dominated the local radio stations.
Vanda and Young didn't write music for AC/DC. They produced their early albums
Not to mention, Flash and the pan
George Young is the elder brother of Malcom and Angus Young. Hence his involvement with ac/dc recording. Vanda and Young were also members of The Easybeats.
@@milpelic7957 Thankyou 👌🏼
I love watching the crowds from back then. Everybody invested in having a great time & not holding phones up recording it to play later.
There was something about being there live & feeling the music with no distractions.
Oh boy, does that bring back memories! Love it. 🩷
Fantastic, a sad song with a happy beat, odd but great! That's Sydney Harbour and we used to have a lot of free outdoor concerts! Life was so simple then nobody was off their face or looking for trouble, just enjoying the music was so important! I love the music, and miss it, have a stress free day everyone! 🎶🌅
We all love John Paul Young - this, yesterday's hero and the massive Love is in The Air
Ahhh Squeak❤
Hard to believe this is almost 50 years ago.
John paul young, great!
Good ol JPY
Love is in the air
Yesterdays hero
Pasadena,
Plus many more
Vanda & Young wrote most of his songs
I had forgotten about Pasadena, loved that one 👌🤗
I was there and only 14 years old at the time. JPY, Ted Mulray Gang, AC/DC and others, I think it was put on by Countdown.
It was put on by radio station 2sm and dee jay Ron E Sparks
@@lynndally9160 Thanks, it was a long time ago.
@@BradSimmonds-j7o certainly was a long time ago. Best of times
@@lynndally9160 👍
Ted Mulry Gang not Mulray.
Mulray was Doug Mulray the Legendary Australian comedian, radio, and television presenter. Nicknamed Uncle Doug.
Hey,
This Man was a unsung singer from Australia I'm happy your got a taste of this man's amazing voice and as a front man 😢
He was a gun!!!
This will replay in your our head ALL DAY!!
Super catchy song! 👏👏👏😅
Somebody has to suggest John Paul Young - Strictly Ballroom -Love is in the air
YOU DO IT .....spend the money ....
@@geoffkinna9166 yeah nah yeah
Blows my mind that the Sydney Opera House was just three years old then.
This is the music of my teens, so much fun energy
I was at this concert at the ripe old age of 14 and it’s the best experience of my life so far in my 62 years. So many great Aussie bands on the Harbour and on the steps of the Opera House. Incredible day, incredible bands enjoyed with great friends. The 70’s were the best !
They were I agree
John Paul Young lived near me when I grew up. I would see him at the shops. He was a regular person around town.
Last I heard he still lived somewhere in the Newcastle/Hunter Valley area.
Same. He lived on Lake Macquarie about 3 streets away from my place. I’d go out for a jog and he would be out mowing his lawn. Wave and say gday on my way past.
From the days when music was still actually music!
Vander and Young. So many events like this on Sydney Harbour in the 70's. And the Rocktober events at the Opera House.
Known locally as squeak! Very underrated artist.
Baby Boomer here. Wow what memories I can remember bopping away to J P Y
Me too 😂
Me too Mark, I had a crush on J.P.Y. Yesterdays Hero was my fav though!
I used to have a bit of a crush on Squeak . I was at this concert, what an awesome day that was
Love his song "Yesterday's Hero"
Wow, I was at that concert. Would have been 1974
"I Hate the Music" is a pop song written by George Young and Harry Vanda and recorded by Australian pop singer John Paul Young. The song was released in March 1976 as the lead single from the singer's second studio album, J.P.Y. (1976). It peaked at number 2 on the Kent Music Report in Australia, remaining on the chart for 20 weeks. It was certified gold in Australia.[1] It reached number 1 on the South African singles chart.[2]
In 1998, the song was covered by Ratcat and John Paul Young for the Occasional Coarse Language soundtrack
We got off the train at Milsons Point ,Northside of the Harbour Bridge for this concert in October 1976 i was 14 , i remember the girls jumping into the harbour and swimming to the pontoon .Sydney used to have the Rocktober festival in those days
Yes, and the NYE concerts on the steps of the Opera House. Great times.
I went to the last Rocktober concert on the steps of the Opera House called Concert of the Decade. For my very first gig as a 14 y.o in 1979, I couldnt have asked for a better exerience.
I was there too … ah the memories
Gotta love JPY.
Still like this song after all these years. It's catchy and easy to move to. He was quite popular back then with numerous hits.
A fantastic snapshot of 70s Australia
Ah the memories of my youth
Another Vanda and Young classic.
"I Hate the Music" is a pop song written by George Young and Harry Vanda and recorded by Australian pop singer John Paul Young. Classic.. 1 of many in the land of Aus. :)
Saw John & his band the All Stars many times, this was a huge concert on Sydney Harbour, other Bands were Ted Mullary Gang & AC/DC.
I remember this when it came out , i was 11 it was huge in Australia
Ah…JPY the soundtrack of my childhood ❤
Ooo JPY.....visit Yeaterdays Hero and Love is in the Air
He’s another Scottish born Australian, who came here as an 11 year old. He had an apprenticeship in sheet metal when he was coaxed into singing, and that, he can.
Where in the world would you see a more beautiful harbour? That's Sydney Harbour with our famous Harbor Bridge and the stuiningly spectacular Sydney Opera House....and then we see the gorgeous John Paul Young...who nearly every teenage girl had a crush on lol....
John Paul Young I recommend going back to his first songs from the Hero album
Birmingham and Pasadena think you will love these
I have a new appreciation and love for this song.I usually prefer Yesterdays hero over this song but I truly enjoy this song now
Oh memories! I was lucky enough to see him perform at the casino in Hobart a couple of years ago, it was a Vanda and Young tribute show. So much fun, so many good memories from back-in-the-day.
JPY Little Champ!
John Paul Young was born in Glasgow Scotland
This was always my younger brother's reply when I'd say, "You've done the wrong thing, you just have to face the music".
The young lady dancing away is Marcia Hines - an American who came to Australia to do Hair and we kept her. She is an amazing talent as is her daughter Danni!
Deni 😊
@@grannym2880 Sorry - long day and brain fade.
No it’s not Marcia Hines. I was there and can tell you it’s wasn’t her.🧐🙄🤷🏼♀️
another song written and produced Harry Vanda and George Young from the Easybeats, George young of course well know as Angus and Malcolm Youngs (ACDC) older brother who produced and guided them through the first 5 great ACDC albums! They wrote many of JPYs hits including his world wide hot Love is in the air! No 3 Oz, Number 5 UK no and No 7 USA
In 1982 JPY had a big hit with "Soldier of Fortune"
He had 20 plus hits in the 70's, in Australia, NZ, South Africa and Europe.
Squeak was nick named by Molly Meldrum, the music Guru from Go-Set and Countdown.
Molly also named Skyhooks' singer Shirl the Curl.
Molly is responsible for breaking ABBA and Mama Mia to the world.
ABBA would've faded into obscurity if not for Molly's diligence and persistence.
So we've got him to thank/blame. LOL.
JPY is a legend and a top bloke.
He was a teenage Sheet Metal Worker in Newcastle when Vanda and Young got him into the recording studio.
"Pasadena" was his first HIT in the very early 70's.
His Band "The JPY Allstars" were the creme de la creme of Australian musicians.
JPY went on to have a successful radio career in Newcastle.
oooohhh flashbacks to when I was little.
Anyone out there go to this, was the Ted Mullery Gang on the same bill.
Have you reacted to John singing Pasadena?
It's OK to say you don't like some songs and say that you think they are rubbish.
Squeak 5:15
Have a listen to JPY's biggest hit "Love is in the air" and a look at "Strictly Ballroom" (a quirky, low budget Aussie film by Baz Luhrmann).
Please please listen to Stevie Wright Evie parts 1 2 and 3 another 70s Aussie music
Its called a platoon, I ment Pontoon, lol 🤣

A shocker of a song!
You hate the song, John hates the music, what's the world coming too?
