• Dragon - Rain (1983)
Music from Australia and New Zealand in the year 1983:
Dragon's promo-video for the hit single 'Rain' (July, 1983), taken from the 1983 album 'The Body & The Beat'.
Note: After a four year hiatus (Marc Hunter's solo success and Todd Hunter's guitar duties in XL Capris), Dragon made a comeback with the hit single 'Rain' - penned by Todd Hunter and his wife Joanna Pigott (XL Capris singer). Other members of the new Dragon included Terry Chambers of UK band XTC on drums. Sadly, the band's main songwriter and keyboardist Paul Hewson was to die of a herion overdoes less than 18 months later.
Note: Kerry Jacobson played drums on this track before quitting Dragon. XTC's Terry Chambers replaced Jacobson around the time this clip was shot. Chambers is playing drums in the video to a track that was originally recorded by Jacobson - just to clear mattes up.

R.I.P. The late great Marc Hunter. Awesome vocalist, and great front man.
Fantastic ❤❤
I'm so privileged to have been around when this song came out. I absolutely love it and the 80's. Rest easy Marc 🙏🏾💜✨
Me also,I grew up in Sydney so was lucky to see them a few times
I saw them many times growing up in Bondi .
What a great singer he was
Was in Noosa for me after a very quick over night drive from Cairns... so much talent in playing in OZ in this era!!
We all loved Dragon in the 80s. But the experience wasn't complete without hearing "April sun in Cuba" playing over the loudspeaker at the beach. Best 80s band. "Are you old enough" , "Get that Jive" "Young Years" are some other great songs. Definitely worth exploring, you will love it.
My mum is 1st cousins with the Hunter boys cheers from the mckechnie whanau❤ and salute to Dan the keyboardists son here in kerikeri🇳🇿🇳🇿
This band had the wildest most insane history of any band in the history of Australia and New Zealand rock music ! Lol. Suggest you check them out.
How good is this song still in 2022 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My favourite song.
Thanks for reacting.
RIP Marc Hunter ❤️
Dragon's song: Young Years is a Classic from 1988 and i used to smash it through the local pub jukebox back in the day out on a Bender all the time.
What an amazing time to be young and alive. The 80s. I was blessed
The pub scene in Australia during the 70s and 80s was amazingly vibrant. Great bands were gigging all over the country every night. These guys were great.
and then POKER MACHINES fucked everything up!
Yes it was was lucky enough to see Dragon often RIP Mark
Sooo many good bands around then!!
SOOOOOO glad I grew up in the 80's!
I was wondering when you guys would review Dragon. I saw them play in pubs in Australia many times in the 80s. Great band, music never gets old.
Great band! My favourite all time song from them is 'Young Years'.
oh man long time since I heard that one. What a great song that was!
@@veddyveddygood look for a version sung at the Marc Hunter tribute concert by Kevin Bennett
So glad to be an 80's teen. Just sang this word for word. Great track, lots of great memories attached to it.
RIP Mark Hunter
April Sun in Cuba pleeeaaaassee! They played at my high school. What an amazing band!
Damn Australia and New Zealand have had some amazing collaborations! I count myself so lucky to have been a kid growing up with all this amazing music, where we got the best of US/UK but our own as well. Great review once again guys!! 🙂👌
Yet another Kiwi property Aussies are trying to claim? Lol
@@aaronbarlow4376 It's Molly Meldrums fault. On his Countdown show he always said Kiwi groups were Aussies for some reason. Then I'd find out years later they were Kiwi's all along.
@@Palerax It's like 'The sixth sense" He was Kiwi all along?!!
@@aaronbarlow4376 Without Australia they wouldn't have got to where they got to. Living here as well helped so shoving that down people's throat ain't gonna work anymore.
@@Rage_Harder_Then_Relax They're still a Kiwi band that went to Oz because the market was bigger there. I've worked in England, Canada and Australia but I'm still a Kiwi. I'm not sure what you mean by shoving down throats. Sorry you got triggered.
The lead singer, Marc Hunter, was crazily charismatic. Unfortunately he died quite young.
RIP Marc
You are missed.
🤘❤️🇭🇲
Es de la música que desde la primera vez que lo escuchas ..y dices ..esta es la música de tu vida...40 años escuchándolo como la primera vez
Greetings from Croatia (Zagreb). Nobody knew them in my Country but i love NZ and Australian music. Dragon - Rain is uplifting masterpiece
This is an absolute classic rock anthem in New Zealand & Australia !
I was 13 years old when this song came out, I sat there in silence recording it off the radio onto my tape.
It will never get old
Rip Mark Hunter
Great song, great band. They had so many hits, their break through was April Sun In Cuba. But I really loved Sunshine, it had a great bass line, and being a bass player myself, it's a no brainer.
The singer and his brother in the band are actual last name Hunter. This is the first song co-written by a woman to make top ten in Australia Johanna Piggot Then became the first female to write a number one Age of Reason for the legendary Voice John Farnham
One of my all-time favorites!!! I can't believe you guys reacted to this!!! Aaargh!! NO ONE ELSE HAS DONE THIS ONE. Nothing like belting this chorus out at the top of your lungs with a room full of other people doing the same thing.🥰✌️💕
Every Kiwi (New Zealander) knows this iconic song…❤️
From a band that was formed and had success in Australia. I say Australian band mate. No one in the world knows where NZ is.😜
@@victorpeirce4753….let’s just say they are a New Zealand Band, formed in Auckland, based in Australia🤷🏽♀️
@@manunugirl7211 ok.. let's do that then.👍👍
@@victorpeirce4753
There's 4 kiwis in the band in this video ... I'd say they're a kiwi band
Im Australian but this band was outstanding this song was as good as any U2 classic at that time.
Thank you for reacting to one of my favorite songs.
The way you described walking down the street to this song, I have done more times than I can count.😁
Their first major hit from 1977 was called ‘This Time’ which is awesome. I still listen to it in the year 2022. Please check it out. Kez 🙋🎤😀

I feel charmed growing up in Australia in the 80's
This was #2 on the Aussie top 100..... love this song and the album "Body and the beat"
New Zealand had a lot of great bands in the 70's and 80's, Hello Sailor, Th' Dudes, Dragon, Split Endz, Mi Sex and The Exponents (aka Dance Exponents) were the best
The Chills, Mutton Birds, Straightjacket Fits, The Clean, Headless Chickens,

Ray Columbus and the Invaders, DD Smash, Dave Dobbyn,
The Swingers, The Crocodiles/QED (Jenny Morris), Pop Mechanix (The Zoo),

The Jean-Paul Sartre Experience, The Knobz, Tall Dwarfs, Herbs, Toy Love...........
If you dig a bit you'll find more great New Zealand Bands and Artists..........
Dragon - Young years
Great song from a great band. They have many other fantastic songs. I was lucky enough to see Dragon live many times. What a great time for Australian pub rock in the 1970s and 80s. Rest in peace Marc Hunter and Paul Hewson
That is absolutely what that song was created for!
'Young Years' is their masterpiece.
One of my favourite bands. ❤️
Dei here. Thanks Travis & Suzi for your fun reactions. These 4 songs were kind of a grab-bag of Aussie 80's music based mostly on the comments sections from previous Australian songs. Paul Kelly and Dragon were a must to do. Noiseworks was probably next on the list. I want some day to do Spy vs Spy "Don't Tear it Down". There were just too many good bands in Aus/NZ at the time. We still haven't even done Icehouse, Hoodoo Gurus, Mental as Anything etc. Some more INXS and a Colin Hay song in the pipeline, but after that, that'll be it for me for a while (need to give Travis & Suzi a break!).
Keep em coming Dei, plenty more Aussie bands to check out now - Easybeats, Russel Morris, Cold Chisel, INXS, The Angels, Hunters & Collectors, Mondo Rock, Pseudo Echo, The Eurogliders, The Divinyls, The Screaming Jets, AC/DC, Midnight Oil, Baby Animals, The Drones , Ted Mulray Gang, Silverchair, Jebediah, Regurgitator, You am I, Magic Dirt, Rose tattoo, Thirsty Merc, Skyhooks, The Kaper, Kate Ceberano, Marcia Hines, Deni Hines, Uncanny X-Men, RatCat, etc.....
Definitely would love Any 'Spies' done👍👍😎 ..but 'Don't Tear it Down' is a fave..& a MUST✌️ Sallie-Anne, The Golden Mile,Mission Man, Hooligans,...the list goes on...
Would love to see a 'Boys' reaction. ..being a Sandgroper.
Hurt me Babe,When You're Lonely,Weoh Weoh Weoh,Spend my Time,One Way.... 👍🤘🤘
The spies are one of my all time favourite Aussie band.... saw the live but sadly only one.....

Can’t for the life of me remember her surname. Also Jenny Morris, Renee Geyer, Mondo Rock, Nick Cave so so many. Just scratching the surface.
@@kayelle8005 OMG there are so many I had left off my list and all of them are just so freaking awesome, thank you for reminding me. ( I may add them to my list for future comments. lol)
This takes me back to the mid 70s seeing these guys at the Bondi Lifesavers.
I'm so blessed to have been young during the Aussie pub rock era .
"I love everything about the 80's music scene" especially in Australia... mind-blowingly awesome to have been 20-something back then!!! The club and pub scene in Sydney was like another world. Lead singer Mark Hunter was a great front man. R.I.P. Mark...
Please play more of them! So many hits
So many memories of my bff and I clubbing and seeing bands in the 80’s. Young, free and no responsibilities, what a great time it was.
What a song. Great songwriting
Underrated band imo
Fantastic reaction, im sure marc hunter (lead singer) would be so excited you love this.. unfortunately he passed away in 1998 from cancer... he left a great legacy, dragon is one of best rock bands of the 70s, 80s & 90s.....
One of my fave things I'm enjoying about your reactions is when you are head bopping in unison
New Zealand band the lived and worked in Australia 🦘🌏 most of their time, best band, love Marc Hunter!❤🎉
Love this song and this band 💕💕
A favourite band, a favourite song 💕
one of my favourite bands along with Splitnz
Can't beat the freeze frame at the end 😁
This song and many of Dragons songs are complete anthems go to a sporting event or pub/bar and this song or another plays everyone’s singing full blast
Hits like these while hanging out after school in the local pinball parlours like Owen's. Great times, great friends and memories and having a coke
Saw em live back in 1991 was a good night
Saw Dragon in Noosa in the early 90's. Great kiwi band.
Aussie songs from the 80s were absolutely mad!!!!!!
I saw them at the tathra pub in 1986. The place was jam packed with people. The band however were that far off their faces on heroin that the lead singer couldnt even remember the words to this song.
Yep once the blue lady got hold of them was all down hill.

Blast from the past! Another great song from Dei! Ordinary Men is my favourite Dragon song!
Originally from New Zealand they started off as a prog Rock outfit crossing to Australia in the mid 1970’s before they became a fine pop band. But man ! The stuff they were mixed up in was insane!! Losing band members to drug abuse. By 1983 when this song was released it seemed like it was all over for them. But this song was a big hit !
they were and still are a nz band whether they made their hits in aus regardless they will always be a fave nz band
@@bodybalanceU2 u kiwis are so desperate for anything cause NZ is and always be a shithole.💯
80s classic fan favorite, love this song
I am old enough to remember, you could not go anywhere in the Australian summer of '83 (and into '84, it was that big) without hearing this song
RIP Marc Hunter😢 2:38
I came from the Split Enz video. Dragon's Are you old enough is also a great song. PS. The guitarist in this video Roger Taylor was my Dad's cousin who was also a guitarist. Cheers.
Love this song, it's a popular pub song
Thanks for giving this a spin!!! Still on my playlist. 🥰😍🤩
Absolutely you should walk down the street and strut to this song......just as we did when it became a huge hit in Oz.
Great band, great song, love it! ❤
I am honoured and chuffed you guys did a review of one of my fave bands…loved them right from the get go and the eighties made for some very good music from Dragon. Of note, they were without a drummer so the drummer from Brit band XTC came in and made magic with them. More please…try Magic, Dreams of Ordinary Men, Get That Jive, Are You Old Enough…hell do their entire portfolio! Love your work…off to watch you review MiSex now…
I came on to see if you had ever done this great song. I loved it in 1983 and still do. it's very often played by cover bands in the big pubs here in Sydney.
Such a great tune! The intro on its own gives me all the feels. Thanks again Wolf Hunters 🐺
Yes! This song is so good and you just can't not dance to it. Thanks for your great reactions and by the way love how you both really 'groove' to the music
See dragon rain live Christchurch 2014 .... fantastic !
Dragon was an awesome band I saw them quite a few times, the lead singe Marc Hunter tragically died of throat cancer in 1998.
I forgot how much this song rocks
Yes, the eighties were great. I was in my twenties then and certainly had a good time.
Dragon was a KIWI band that once again made it in Australia.
Great band good songs. Very hard living lead singer who we lost to cancer at 44..
I had the biggest crush on Marc Hunter, RIP. All their music was my fave, but above all is Young Years.
I love you guys reacting to my youth
An amazing band. 'Are You Old Enough?' is one of their greatest songs also ❤
These guys played at my school in the late 70's (with Mental as Anything (who you should also check out)). I saw them several more times in the pubs. I feel they would have been an international hit if Marc hadn't died so early.
Favorite song promises by dragón greetings from Perú
Thank you for highlighting some of our awesome talent from the 80s…they were great times ✨💜✨
Rest in Peace the great Marc Hunter
ha ha, so 80's indeed. The look, video and music just tells you it from no other decade in time.
Funny description. I probably heard this on sony walkman radio/cassette headphones. Cannot get anymore 80's memories than this. Loved this song back then even though more into heavy rock style back then.
Aussie&NZ pub rock is awesome!
Dragon 'Speak no evil' is a classic. Recommended!
Dragon had some great songs, but this one is my favourite. It's hard to believe it's 40 years old.
Seen them live in Geraldton back in the 90s
I was a little girl when this song first came out and one of my favourite things was to try and stay awake all night then get up and make myself pancakes in the morning and I would listen to the radio to help me stay awake and this song was one of the regulars on the overnight radio rotation
There is also an extended version. Even more to enjoy
I actually stood in the rain watching them live singing this song. Such a catchy song
While they are from New Zealand they had more success in
Australia when they moved over here with a bigger main steam audience they were a huge hit in Australia one of my favourites growing up and still is. we class them as New Zealand/ Aussie band. 🇳🇿🇦🇺
A Kiwi band.
@@aaronbarlow4376 that had an opportunity to shine in the medium sized Australian market
Nope, they are Kiwi as, mate! Oh, well remember belting this out at the Cadbury's Social Club on a Friday or two! This is only one of their great sings...April Sun In Cuba...
Fark mate bands had to go to Australia to make coin. They couldn't do it with a small NZ audience. Faken sick of you Aussie munters trying to pass off kiwi talent as Australian. Don't you already have enough of your own ffs
@@miamcknight9138 u realize how desperate your comment makes you look. They formed in Australia and had success here in Australia. If they stayed in N Z they would have been nobody's 💯
The Keyboard player and Song writer Paul Hewson suffered Severe Physical Pain and left the band to go back to New Zealand in 1985 And tragically died due to a Herion Overdose. He wrote all their Big hits.
Takes me back to my high school days… 😎👌
Susie your reaction is so spot on. It does make you feel like dancing like no one is watching! Loved Dragon as a teenager. I thought Marc was a cutie too haha RIP to him, one of our NZ brothers from over the ditch who came to Oz to make it here. It makes sense when we have a bigger population.
The Hunterz reviewing the Hunter brothers ! This song would be a struggle for many at karaoke 😅It's a great shame they weren't introduced to the States with a song like this, rather than how it happened. The guitar (GR707?) is used in Real Life - Catch Me I'm Falling also, another aussie act, maybe Dragon were the inspo.
Great songs from Dragon. The singer Marc Hunter rest in peace and bass player Todd Hunter are brothers.
OMG back to my late teenage years in Aussie land
Love it! R.I.P. Mr Hunter ❤
Oldschool banger! Damn you pick some classic tunes Dei...one of the best chorus's of the 80's fo' sure! And Travis/Suzy...played Lock Shields for the boys last night, you got some new fans downunder, heads were bangin allround...well done!
Absolute kiwi anthem, down here in Dunedin you get 15000 students singing it at the rugby stadium
I don't care what anyone says, "countdown" put them on the map, that makes them Aussie gold.
sorry bro kiwis all

basically, truth as far as how they got moving commercially, and how they kept moving (under Albert's management, were they in Melbourne?). but yes they're from nz. in some of their later videos nz is featured.
Loved watching Dragon live. Marc would occasionally change the line, "It's been raining I've gotta hard on." RIP Mr Hunter.
