Love how Adam has been adding some tasty little licks and grooves to all his parts lately - really adding some depth to the songs and expanding his playing! 30 years on and these guys still rock!!
U2 are the greatest band of the last 25 years. I've seen them 4 times. No band ranks up there with them. I'm 55 years old, so I know what i'm talking about. I grew up with Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Genesis(with and without Peter Gabriel), ELP, YES Moody Blues etc. These were fantastic bands in my generation. Then punk and alternative rock brought us bands like U2. They rank up there with all the great bands of my teenage years and they still do. So p#@! off all you naysayers. U2 #1.
We're going home now Goodnight, thank you See you again sometime Up off your feet, up on your feet Come on now I was on the outside when you said You said you needed me I was looking on at myself I was blind, I could not see A boy tries hard to be a man His mother takes him by his hand If he stops to think, he starts to cry Oh, why? If you walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow If you walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow I was on the inside When they pulled the four walls down I was looking through the window I was lost, I am found Walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow If you walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow Your eyes make a circle I see you when I come in here It's your eyes, it's your eyes Your eyes, your, your eyes If you walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow If you walk away, walk away I walk away, walk away I will follow I will follow, I will follow I will follow, I will, I will Thank you Thank you Thank you, goodnight Thank you Thank you
Here is when have meaning the genre "Stadium Rock", The Music of U2 filled to the deepest recesses of anywhere. I was in the concert of Mexico (Azteca Stadium)
also felt i had to comment on this so called 'don't pay taxes issue', from what ive read elsewhere there's not much justification in this either, why can't people just accept that they are bloody good at what they do, live, they've provided me with some great memories of seeing them close up, and not bands around today can do what they do, after 30 odd years that's saying something.
Best live band in the world...My favourite tune...what more can a man want...tickets :0( oh well at least my step son was there to tell me how good they were...ps u below U2 v Coldplay...Fk off no contest....1976-2011 (1979 Boy)..get real...awesome gig, so jealous of those there, how many bands turn up and do pretty much their whole set?? not many if any!
@lismclis51 It's refreshing to hear someone you age make such a comment. Some say their musical acumen is limited, but for me, their real powers lies in their lyrics. They are a band that prove tha a song does not have to be vey complex musically for it to touch your soul.
@thedaveevens You're actually wrong. U2 have 3 guitar technicians. Dallas Schoo for The Edge, Stuart Morgan for Adam Clayton, and Phil Docherty for Bono. There are 3 guitar playing members in the band...
@modeo92 you have to appreciate and admire the eager youthful beginnings, I do, as well as the character projection of that time, in addition to the brilliant compositions. The best U2, is 1980-81. Really(mine and many other U2 fans opinion). Yes, I/we understand their whole career.
When the crazy Justin Bieber fans of the day get me down I flip back to these guys to remember that there is still some hard rocking real men left in this world.
@ToolsnFire I think U2 was at its best in 1976-77. I win. I know a lot of U2 fans and I've never heard the 1980-81 opinion. But with millions and millions of fans in the world, I'm sure there's bound to be a lot of people who agree with you. I've actually joked about going back to that era when people state U2 was their best or sold out after (pick any period of their career). It's almost a contest to see who is the better fan.
@mintybartlam why on earth would you bother searching for this video if you clearly dont like Bono or the band.. U2 still rocks, more than half of the "bands" playing today.
@modeo92 all you gotta do is look at their videos from 1980-81 and look at the comments. The songs from the Boy and October eras, including unreleased and singles. And, there's also the matter of their character at that time, in addition to the song characters. More street cred. U2 were only playing covers in 76-77, originals came in 1978, though they may have had some mere beginnings of original compositions in late 77.
@popmarter There is only one annoying thing regarding replying back to people who rate Mediocre 2011 style U2 is that I have to hear the beginning of the song & I forget to turn the volume down. So what regarding U2 being around earning their stripes does that mean I got to like Cliff Richard as well then?. The Joshua Tree no gimmicks mmmm I do remember some film called Rattle & Hum & Bonzo sorry Bono using some big light & them performing on rooftops
seen them live 4 times, first time on the joshua tree tour, raw and stripped back, then elevation in 2001, and so good had to see them twice in a week on the current tour, as good as they were at glasto, take into account it was pissing it down for most of the set, and they literally jetted in from america and straight back out again after to continue their current tour, so all things taken into account they were pretty good, should have played new years day instead of moment of surrender tho.
@ToolsnFire Ok, fair enough. But I much prefer recent versions with visuals or without. Their performance of the song on Saturday Night Live in 2004 is one of my favorite tv moments. And their version of it when I saw them in Miami in 2005, after the first 3 set songs, really got my favorite concert ever going full throttle. A lot of descriptions fit both of those examples, but reserved is not one of them. Bono dancing around in a video from 30 years ago just doesn't compare.
few weeks ago i was at the rory gallagher fes ballyshannon ireland, and iwas reminded of what is raw and real , thought will ireland ever see the likes again i felt no ,than i went to the" no place like dome fes ,in co sligo" i witnessed a irish band called" the hotsprockets" and it was raw & real rock n roll back to old school like rory gallagher thin lizzy extra ...u2 can, and will go back to basics nomore big rubbish twisting stages cameras and action, music needs no trims raw real solidsound
Yeah is maybe the biggest band in the world right now, but they aren't making the best music. I freakin' love Achtung Baby, The Joshua Tree and War... but they haven't come up with a fantastic album since 1991... Radiohead and Arcade Fire are the best band in the world right now in my opinion... But, I'm seeing U2 live tonight and I can't wait, I'm really looking forward to hear I Will Follow!!
Ya suena como una balada, lejos del ritmo, de la energia que tenia esta cancion en sus primeras epocas; y es una de mis favoritas de la musica. Deberian dejar de tocarla para preservar "i wll follow" como una de las mejores de la historia.
@sweetassugar69 Ok, try to learn one of Edge's guitar parts, then. Get it spot on, with exact delay setting and everything. Edge plays all of his parts live by himself, and occasionally with a loop station. All his guitar technician does is tune up and set up his guitars between songs.
Reading the above,Martin must have good taste, because Wire is a truly spellblinding track(Edge sounds like he's thrashing the hell out of a mandolin in the intro).Coldplay might be copycats or not(haven't a problem with them before),but who the f*** can change history anyway. If Coldplay can last for nearly 40 years together, then they'd be in the same level as U2.Who needs a contest anyway-I bet neither band see it as one?
@sweetassugar69 Dude, have been aU2 fan for 20 years, last few albums have been poor, but performance at Glastinbury was something Coldplay and any other band could only dream about,Dont think Coldplay will sound as good in 30 years.
@sweetassugar69 Graffiti Soul is a great album, but ive seen Simple Minds live twice, and U2. Simple Minds IS brilliant, no doubt. U2 and Simple Minds are VERY similar, but U2 has just gone so much further. as for Coldplay, theyr good, but theres just something about them that is average, i did love the Viva La Vida album, best Coldplay album ive heard, and their newer stuff...mm ok, takes a few listens to like. took me a month to love nloth. and Simple Minds today are underrated it sickens me.
@RugbyPeter I can assure you that Bono could not be more anti-IRA. He constantly gives speeches concerning the burden that is being imposed on the country of Ireland by the malicious army. And Bono doesn't hate England, as an Irishman it is instinctual for him to critize the country's past faults, but he is one to forgive and forget. He has also repatedly thanked England for being so supportive of the band.
@kingofpunk1977 one shouldn't ever think he's cleverer and more knowledgable than others, that's ignorant as well. Enjoying a song has nothing to do with the effects it's built with, it's something speaking to you through the music. Hope you get this feeling from some other band, but don't critisize u2, please, if you just don't like them. There are lots of people (u2 fans in plenty too) with keen and wide music taste, nothing to be ashamed of.
@modeo92 you're much too reserved then. You don't appreciate expressiveness. Going on that you'd love The Drums, especially their performances in 2009/2010
@TontoNo5 The rest is just the media blowing it out of proportion. It didn't make sense for a protest at Glastonbuy in ENGLAND when their issue concerns taxes in IRELAND.
There are 4 people out there commenting on this who have no taste in music I went to electric picnic and u2s set at Glastonbury was better than the whole of electric picnic . If they cared 2 listen 2 the u2 interview Bono said it was to dangerous to be doing all the things they had planned to do because of the weather and stage . How many bands bring the stage out further to there audience as the audience r getting soaked as they can b the same
@sweetassugar69 You're just wrong. U2 have one guitar technician (Dallas Schoo) and Coldplay have one as well (Matt McGinn) Your 'fact two' is wrong as well. U2 are a much bigger band than Coldplay. The 360 tour is the biggest tour of all time and they have been the highest earning musicians 3 years in a row. Hahahaha, U2 heavily influenced coldplay, (U2's 'Wire' is Chris Martin's favorite song) know and respect your roots
@kingofpunk1977 Didn't we meet before? C'mon it's partly because they're so big isn't it otherwise you wouldn't care. As a fan, there's few things worse than being told I know nothing about music. I'm into all kinds of music, from the obscure to the mainstream, new and old. But U2 do it better than anyone, with or without gimmicks. I'd like to see you try the overrated/effects pedals argument over on Bullet + Sydney + Zoo TV.
@ToolsnFire I think Bono's "dancing" back in the Boy era eliminates any specialness of the performances. Well, maybe in a "Special Olympics" way. I prefer the present day versions myself. By a lot.
@100dbjr U2 pay taxes in Ireland. They have homes there. They pay business tax there. The moved the publishing portion of their business to the Netherlands. That's it. The rest is hyperbole.
I was there, and watching it back on video/on the television really does show why they're considered the best band in the world.
It's crazy to think that U2 created this song when they were teenagers and it still rocks well over 30 years later.
Love how Adam has been adding some tasty little licks and grooves to all his parts lately - really adding some depth to the songs and expanding his playing! 30 years on and these guys still rock!!
...just pure class Coldplay are not even close and never will be
I love it, I love this!!! I love all the words..
won't walk away walk away..won't walk away walk away..wont't walk away walk away..his lover will take him by his hand..won't walk away walk away..I love you Bono, I love U2
i love it when they play this, it's phenomenal x
AMAZING... I was at the 360 tour at Subiaco Oval, Perth right up the front. Best night of my life!!
30 some odd years later, I Will Follow still never disappoints.
Just timeless brilliance.
Probably my favorite U2 song.
Love this! Great music, a great festival, and I'm in Canada for it :(
just saw them in California and i will see them in Chicago cant wait!
Still one of the best songs EVER!!!
U2 are the greatest band of the last 25 years. I've seen them 4 times. No band ranks up there with them. I'm 55 years old, so I know what i'm talking about. Love u2, this is a really great effort because i know this is a tough song for bono to sing now, awesome job.
Simply awesome.
This is so great... Enjoyed it thanks!!!
Class acts best live band ever
We're going home now
Goodnight, thank you
See you again sometime
Up off your feet, up on your feet
Come on now
I was on the outside when you said
You said you needed me
I was looking on at myself
I was blind, I could not see
A boy tries hard to be a man
His mother takes him by his hand
If he stops to think, he starts to cry
Oh, why?
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
I was on the inside
When they pulled the four walls down
I was looking through the window
I was lost, I am found
Walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
Your eyes make a circle
I see you when I come in here
It's your eyes, it's your eyes
Your eyes, your, your eyes
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
I will follow, I will follow
I will follow, I will, I will
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you, goodnight
Thank you
Thank you
i will follow !! U2 rules ..... im go to miami this 29-06.

@thedaveevens .. Also the intro for Clocks is based on the keyboard in The Unforgettable Fire... Coldplay are good, but U2 are incredible.
good :)
@thedaveevens You're actually wrong. U2 have 3 guitar technicians. Dallas Schoo for The Edge, Stuart Morgan for Adam Clayton, and Phil Docherty for Bono. There are 3 guitar playing members in the band...

Ce groupe des années 80 ont été les plus prolifique des groupes rock ! Mes idoles de jeunesse après Led Zeppelin et pink floyd
When the crazy Justin Bieber fans of the day get me down I flip back to these guys to remember that there is still some hard rocking real men left in this world.
@DMcCU2 you left out QUEEN:)
@ToolsnFire I think U2 was at its best in 1976-77. I win.

Almost enough, Ann ~
It was on the Pyramid Stage!
:- )
@joacopm7 Bono always does that in his songs, sometimes changes the lyrics or adds snippets of other songs
3:01 U2 fans in their element!
@lismclis51 Amen! Stole the words right of my mouth!

@Tomdawg89 Further to say Mullen has regressed as a drummer in 2011 check out the U2 I will Follow (Live 1983 Germany performance)

Bono is saying something 2 times at the end of the song before saying "if you walk away; I will follow". What is he saying actually?
@DMcCU2 and fair fucking play to him for bein like that!
@kingofpunk1977 The fact is, Larry has been developing arthritis over the last few years. He even has to use custom Pro-Mark sticks to play now.
@kingofpunk1977 one shouldn't ever think he's cleverer and more knowledgable than others, that's ignorant as well. One question. Is there anything better than U2?
Great song as ever, but where is the glockenspiel!! ( for those who do not know, listen to the original LP / CD!)
@tartaneto Yeah, the 4 on stage
@thedaveevens A Sort Of Homecoming is Chris Martin's favourite U2 song...
@XxDragonZxX100 No one is better.. Coldplay is up there too though :)
@BCNation1 Tied with Coldplay..
@MWT0816 that's what people do, it's youtube
not really, lol
Sense of purpose by the sound ?
@TontoNo5 The rest is just the media blowing it out of proportion. It didn't make sense for a protest at Glastonbuy in ENGLAND when their issue concerns taxes in IRELAND.
funny how everybody argured at sweetassugar while it was kellykinsellives that pretty much started it.
PS: not defending either guy
@2010luckygirl hey DUH we've seen about 34000000 comments about him lol-enough already!
wtf the crowd looks like ultras hooligan with all these flags xD
@MrAlbinoPanther Glastonbury perhaps.... same year.... same time..... just saying.....

@sweetassugar69 You're just wrong.

I prefer the present day versions myself. By a lot.
tax my arse.. these lads are one of the great bands ,fuck fashion .. watch n listen
@XxDragonZxX100 led zeppelin, pink floyd, beatles
show
NME, a magazine that is arguably the opposite of everything U2 stands for, voted this the 2nd best performance at Glastonbury. go figure
@100dbjr U2 pay taxes in Ireland. They have homes there. They pay business tax there. The moved the publishing portion of their business to the Netherlands. That's it. The rest is hyperbole.
