WWOTs looks like the CSX freight went into emergency again, doesn't matter seeing the train come to a complete stop is cool in itself, i mean the sound the brakes make it awesome.👍
Awesome video, another train in trouble, sounds like this happens a lot. As soon as the hose broke the train stopped. Doesn’t matter CSX or NS. Just barley heard it.Overall great video. Thanks 🚂👍🏼
I heard the blowout :) And sure as procedure calls for - the train stopped! They tore down the Alco works in Schenectady probably 20 years ago - they wanted a green site and ended up with a brown site instead. I don't know that it was Alco's fault it may have been later tenants on the site. Back to the trains - nice foreign power on that CSX train with both UP and KCS! And a DPU Alright! to make the day :)
Is it just me or did the train stop pretty quick when it went into an Emergency stop. I didn't think trains could stop so fast. I thought it took a mile or so to stop a train. Just curious if they are able to make a quick stop like that then how come it takes a train so long to stop when they see a car or object on the tracks and they apply the brakes but still hit the vehicle or object on the tracks?
ChainsawN&W1218,cool to see that train go into emergency over air hose, love that air horn on GP 38-2,did some railfanning yesterday, filmed 5 NS trains on Radford Division,NS Employee in Christiansburg gave My Dad and Me 3 special RR spikes pained black with NS logo on them, real cool,I've acquired a lot of stuff over the years NS employees have gave Me.
Hello WWoT from the UK. I can hear you just fine. Do you wear ear plugs because you don't like listening to your own live commentary? Just wondered! :) I am amazed by the range of your camera, I expect that when you zoom to maximum distance on a clear day, you probably can just about make out Jaw Tooth a few states away at the lineside.
So now that I've noticed them in person, and you gave me the answer "articulated cars" I'm seeing them in your videos today Thanks for the explanation!
Seems like trains like to have alot of problems when they get to New York especially Dunkirk. Hope you were able to get to the other side man I probably would have just walked across the train or just walked down then back up.
Great catches, especially that KCS!!! Very dramatic stop with the CP manifest... I've seen something like that only once, with an empty coal train. It was surprising to me how fast they were able to stop =- )
Jan Anderson The brake pads on American trains are forced off the wheels by air pressure. When a train loses that air pressure, for whatever reason, the brake shoes come into contact with the wheels on each car and stop the train. So, yes, the air lines are part of the braking system on a train.
@@stevenkarnisky411 if the air holds the brake pads open like a big truck, why can a train car free roll for about 2 miles like what happened here a couple years ago. Trailers are totally unmovable without air pressure. Plus I've seen front end loaders push train Cars around
how long were you stuck on that side of the tracks? well 2 greys and the Kansas city on the 367 not bad! personally i wouldn't mind in the least having more of those Kansas city engines around nice paint scheme on them! definitely more pleasing to the eye than NS or cheapskates!! that spot by the Alco shop a new one? don;t think i've seen any from there! was wondering if you saw that on the CP engine it caught me eye right off! did they change out an engine on the local? i didn't see the whoopie lights (AKA bozo horns as they're known around here!!) for the remote operation on the one when it went by! by thw way the comp on the car means composite brake shoes.
I heard the air pressure burst from car 1 and car 2 of the cp manifest so yep a broken air hose and the engineer or conducter hit the emergency stop valve very quickly
The dbl stack container train looks like a lot for two locomotives, however the most anyone of them will only have twenty tons per container so probably two locomotives will be able to manage the weight? Nice video thank you.
FSC Railroad follows you. He drives a 1984 Peterbilt Cabover with a drop down flatbed trailer. BTW what was the outcome of the train CP with the air hose?
Can hear you just fine 👌 Talk about being in the right place at the right time!!!!! That was one awesome emergency stop , thanks very much for this brilliant video 👍good horn on 8642!!
A l c o s we're Great Locomotive but with the downturn in our Manufacturing oil instead of coal for use in power plants and homes the railroads traffic base was shrinking and shrinking. General Electric had the big g e company as a parent the way EMD had General Motors as a parent. The market for locomotive was getting smaller and smaller as railroads went out of business. When I see idle locomotive I see a lot of money wasted. Instead of fixing what they have they scrapped locomotives that are perfectly serviceable and then they go into debt to buy new locomotives and the debt ruins the company. It makes more monetary sense to rebuild instead of replace. I can rebuild a motorcycle a lot cheaper than buying a brand new motorcycle oh, the same thing applies to locomotive.
KCS allright. YES i think it was an air hose seperation the way it sounded and it really stopped fast. it happens and i think i seen one once.Videos are always great and i like them. One of your viewers talked about seeing a train caught in a tornado and did you ever see one. There is a video of one of our UP trains getting knocked over by one out there. I myself have been in a tornado when i was 12 years old. That tornado killed33 people in my home town in 1967. And that tornado did pick up a boxcar and threw it a quarter of a mile. Wehad another in 2008 that went across the old ic yard in glennwood and wrecked a bunch of railcars and indiana harbour belt switchers and road engiens.
So they have one facing forward for the trip home. No idea about that job but they could at some point during their trip move a lot of cars and need the horsepower. The second unit is probably isolated.
Train stopped right in front of you. Wow hope you didn't have too long to wait to get to your car. You catch a lot of different things when you're out there getting trains.
I wonder if there's a gentleman's agreement between the rail roads and taggers. They let them graffiti up everything as long as they don't cover logos and identifying markers and they leave the tags alone.
nah i've seen plenty where they covered those up! personally if i had my way they'd let varmint hunters set up watching over rail yards and deal with that vermin!!

At least he didn't have to walk far to find it; it sounded like the first coupler.
We know Dunkirk when a train blocks the crossing lol
This is the one with broken air hose 😊

The CSX train with a broken air hose sure got stopped in a hurry. I think I heard a pop before the train went into emergency.
you can hear air brakes apply at 5:04 and train comes to stop at 5:40. 35 seconds not bad for a train that long!

It depends on the speed, weight, number of cars, tons per operating brake, weather and will depend on how soon they can see whatever is on the tracks.
@@r_mon_e also if they are warned ahead of time

How old are you? You’ve been doing 16 years of train vids?
I felt bad when the mixed freight train had to stop at 4:51 because it had a broken air hose but nice part 1 of the train video by the way.
Did NS ever say what caused the derailment?
Not that I know of but you can tell by some of the comments in the video what happened
Why did they put in a DPU 20 cars in on the first train? Kind of redundant!
Three breakdowns in a couple of months while filming. And my favorite KCS power.
19:19 man he zoomed passed the railroad tracks man he is bookin’ jack
