- Street Running Train With Military Tanks, Oversize Load Flat Cars And Over 2 Miles Long! This Street Runner Train Has 4 Locomotives With 2 DPU Locomotives Mid Train! This train with army tanks is in LaGrange, Kentucky on the CSX Short Line from Louisville, Kentucky to Cincinnati, Ohio. This was the first train of the day since a 4 car local switching train went through at about 10:40am. This giant street running freight train came by at 5:34pm.
I also filmed it going through Walton, Kentucky at 2:32pm. The town clock in this video is one hour slow. Walton is at Mile Post 89 and LaGrange is at Mile Post 27. I filmed it passing Walton southbound and while filming it there, a train passed by northbound on the Norfolk Southern line. That video is going to be awesome so don't miss it! I was standing in a parking lot between the CSX and NS lines in Walton and filmed both trains. After that I drove to LaGrange and waited for the train so I could film the 575 a second time. After the train passed LaGrange I heard train 574 waiting in the clear to come through northbound. So I decided to stick around and film that train also, however, 574 developed a mechanical issue with the locomotives. I listened to the dispatcher asking them questions and trying to figure out what to do to get the train rolling again. Another employee drove out and they got on the DPU and were having trouble getting the air pressure up. I saw the train pull up a short distance and stop next to a crossing. A few hours later the first part of that train came through LaGrange but I was on the way home with a very long drive and don't know what they finally did. The best frequencies for this line are the old L&N frequencies of 161.370 and 161.310. The EOT frequency of 452.9375 is good as long as you aren't near Louisville or any other areas where trains could be parked or switching. While I was in LaGrange I stopped at The Red Pepper Deli and got a couple of BBQ sandwiches and Mountain Dew. That was excellent and right next to the tracks. They put my sandwiches in styrofoam containers since I was going to eat outside and not take a chance on missing the train. One box had my name on it and the other said " Jail " on it. Not sure why. They were very good and I gave them a tip with Abraham Lincoln on it.
In the intro to this video I drove down the street running section to show what it looks like. I sped the film up to 1.5 and also notice at the end of the street you can see a clear signal for a northbound train. That was for train 574 that broke down just a few miles south of town and I never got to film it due to it coming through in the dark. Obviously, that part of this video was filmed after the military train street runner had passed. I did that because I didn't know for sure if I would even get to see a train at all here. I knew 575 was coming but what if they stopped at Worthville, Ky and didn't get here until dark? LaGrange doesn't get the volume of trains that it use to get. Precision Scheduled Railroading ( PSR ) and rerouting have dropped the amount of trains here down to only about 7 or 8 every 24 hours and in the winter most of those are in the dark. It's interesting that when I ask shop owners and employees how many trains a day come through here they usually say that they run all the time. Lol.

This train was 199 cars, including 4 engines. 3.2 miles long. I have photos of this train passing through Walton, Kentucky. There are some trains which pass by Walton loaded with empty auto racks headed to Louisville, which are 3 miles in length. This is only the 2nd time I have seen Abrams on the rail in 15 years. Pretty cool running through a little town like this.
very intessting...

@@skram4648the UK doesn't care about freight rail.
Maybe another dpu will appear.
It happens
I live in Brownsville, Texas, where almost all the tracks have been removed, and the rights of way have been made into bike and walking trails. So it is a rarity to see a train in the city limits. A few miles east of town, before you reach Port Isabel, is the train yard of the ‘Brownsville Rio Grande Railroad.’ This is a narrower gauge track, but evidently, the tracks still are in Brownsville. One day a friend and I had just gotten lunch from Raising Cane’s, and had parked under a tree to eat it. We watched a BRG engine with one car stop about 300 feet away from Cane’s, and the conductor got down, walked to Cane’s, and emerged with a big bag of food. He had lunch for the crew! And he waved when I honked the car horn!
Another great shot. Yep, refurbished M1 Abrams tanks. You can tell with the desert sand paint on the tank tracks that had surface rust on them, and no army unit markings (that would normally be on the fenders).
Army or Marines... but don't quote me (I want to say that I read something about the Marines getting out of the M1 business with the MEUs)
@@tehpw7574 the Marines got rid of their Tanks a couple years ago. The Army is the sole user of Armor now.
So were these tanks probably the ones withdrawn from Afghanistan? It would make sense for them to be in need of significant overhaul after years of deployment in the ME.
I don't think so those look right out of factory. Metal can rust in 3 hours. I might be wrong I'm not an expert just my opinion brother great video

Jaw tooth that's cool military on an train 😊 ❤
Great catch !! Long train right in the middle of the street.
Thanks Shan!
I am loving this display of strength I numbers!
Oh man, that was a long one. Double DPUs. I think it be awesome to be having lunch there somewhere and watch as the train passes by. I think I saw a few "cadillac grainers" that Shoestring would love, Haha. They cleared the yard on that one. Moving the entire courthouse!! Wow! Shout to Norfie and Chessie and the gang!! Thanks Jaw Tooth!
Funny ... First thing i thought was shoestring 😆. How would he hide without getting seen , some big nads to pull that off successfully. 🙏🏻🫂👍🏻
Great USA army tanks, what a great video of our power, good one👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Best video ever! Talk about up close & personal! Loved the sounds, and the power pulling it. God Bless our military. Hey Norfie glad you're recovering.
Yes, Norfie seems to be recovering quite nicely. Doesn't look like the surgery slowed her down one bit, she's already back to playing with Chessie.
Wow, all those tanks! I am fervently praying 🙏 against more war!
This is the 3rd train that I have seen with army tanks in the past 6 months
I just love the the way the tracks split the street. Plus it's nice and slow which makes s welcome change.
Also interesting to see the train accelerate after the head locos clear the street-running section. This would be a good place for JT to use that radar gun during the video. 10 mph entering the street, then accelerating to ?? As the DPUs went by, they did not seem to be straining much - maybe they go easy with them while they are in the downtown street to control noise and smoke, then crank it up when all 4 (2 head and 2 DPU) are in the clear.
One of the best street running videos on here!
Wow, thanks!
Hello again from the UK. I love this video. A really impressive train with such a great mixture of stuff. The trains street running through La Grange always looks surreal, but this time the army tanks made it even more so. Interesting look at La Grange from a few different angles as well.
Not to mention the four correctional complexes less than 3 miles from town
It does kind of look something from a WWII movie.
Very cheap flimsy tanks must be more useless crap for ukraine.

Very Nice - FROM BRAZIL !!!👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
Awesome catch JT as always from LaGrange to get the BEST STREET RUNNING TRAINS EVER! What a consist w 2 CSX leaders, 2 CSX DPU's and 203 mixed freight cars! Well done and thanks for your time and effort!

Yep, I agree . completely awesome!
Hello To Everyone From California USA
Thank You JT! Was glad to see wasn’t All Tanks. Was really L O N G with a Double DPU’s!! I’ll bet everyone there was happy the train didn’t blow their horns at every intersection!!! Also glad to see that being on their own ‘Right of Way’ didn’t have to stop at every Stop 🛑 Sign either!!!! 👍🏻🖖🏻
10 mph speed limit entering the town 25 mph leaving it. No horn zone. But can be used if necessary at t he engineer's discretion. Mostly for someone blocking the train's path
I was so fascinated at how slow the set was moving, I didn't even realize they weren't blowing the horns!
* It always pays to have ear plugs at the ready. Those triple flange EARS are easy in easy out. *
@@donaldstanfield8862 there was a NB which stopped at the 4 way stop sign. East west gates went up so that traffic proceeded. Reason was an idiot with an attached trailer trying to parallel park doing a very bad job of its. Basically at 10 mph from where they begin the shared right of way a train is able to stop before the main intersection
I wish I could find older photos from here back in the steam era.
Contact the local history society or museum in this town, they might have some available online.
The sheer tonnage being moved at one time is fascinating. It’s nearly inconceivable that so much weight can be in motion at one time.
On the dry land it is impressive. However on the water a large ship can carry much more in order of magnitude.
Tanks a lot, Jaw Tooth!
After seeing this video, I quickly remembered an event told to me, during my locomotive engineer training, from our instructor.
He had some tanks in his consist. Thinking that there were no close clearances, on the subdivision which he was traveling, the dispatcher called him on the radio informing him that his train was knocking down billboards, from the overpasses they had just traversed!!
We can laugh now (no one being injured), but I learned a valuable lesson, from his mistake! Those are always the best kind of lessons...learning from other people's mistakes!
The trouble for many is they ignore the lessons and need to learn on their own. Some people would like to eliminate the military but as long as other people in other countries have militaries we will need to keep a very substantial military. For example, if the Ukrainian government had not maintained and improved their military in the past 7 years, the Russian's would have already "won" Putin's war. Since the government in Ukraine did provide for a substantial military as well as reserves, they are able to fight very well to protect their country.
We had to travel through here today as part of a detour of the interstate. A train was traveling through town with car haulers in the consist. No idea how long it was but a locomotive was at the end of it
Thank You for sharing.
My pleasure!

What a beautiful old downtown. Love to see them saving the old courthouse. Too many times these old buildings are just torn down. My town has only a handful of older buildings. It feels like the town has lost its soul.
This town is not commercial at all, just a lil village, no need for big stores or other buildings.
Strong performence of defences personnel.thanks.
A total of 16 tanks was on that train!! 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃
Cool, well that was a nice long train. I wouldn't be surprised if the M1 tanks are loaded into Europe. In the German North Sea ports of Bremerhaven and Nordenham, quite a lot of equipment from the US Army has recently arrived. Half of it is painted in desert color. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven

Possibly, but we've upped our positioning in the Pacific too from what I'm aware of (due to instability with China and North Korea). With Kim now up to his old troublemaking again and Xi getting more aggressive, a South Korea, Japan or other Pacific regional deployment wouldn't be out of the question either for these tanks. Concerning times we're living in. Greetings to the Germans from America.
Son, you were so close the tracks, along with everyone else! What a cool setup to see the trains and tanks, up close and personal. I look forward to your smiling face and your trains every day. THANK you so much.

This is another great one, Brian. An impressive train going through an old part of town with funky architecture. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I'll say about this train: It took about 760 + trucks of the roads. That's just one part of this country should do more shipping by rail.
Another great show. Wouldn't even think about getting in my car on that street parked along the track with a moving freight.

Nice army tanks on csx trains
So, as a railroader myself and one who lives in a community with many railroads, trains this long is not okay. That entire town was split in half for over 10 minutes. Imagine an emergency where seconds can mean life or death and the first responders are stopped by a train. Precision railroading is not the way. CSX should have at least split this train into two.
I agree. I actually have a video of an ambulance waiting for a huge train at this same location.
As a former tanker the first part of this/these trains is a welcome sight. As a parent trying to get kids to school this leviathan is a nightmare.
They don't have enough train crews to split the train in two. They need to keep flying the drones in order to fire more people
Do us a favor and stay in California, or whatever socialist dump you're from.
This is the way towns were built , railroads built , since the beginning. If you don't like that fact then stay out of these places.
You'd be doing the locals a huge favor.
I think with the cost of fuel going up it necessitates more cars per run.
Thank you for the video. From a United States Army Veteran.

Thank you very much!
Wonder if the tanks are anywhere in a chain that might send tanks to Ukraine!? Just a thought. 🙏🇺🇦❤
They sunk a Russian ship!🎯💥💨
@@donaldstanfield8862 The ship was an old style "Tank Landing Ship" being used to move Russian vehicles and a couple hundred tons of ammunition. One of three ships actually. She was attacked, the cargo went up and the ship went down. The two others were hit by flaming debris from the first and were still loaded and afire as they left the port. They were able to put those fires out and those two headed for home.
@@donaldstanfield8862 ah yes desert colors for Europe 🤦 they're more than likely being sent off to get upgraded, I spotted a lot of old equipment strapped to the turrets that was present overseas that's no longer used.

Great catch Jaw. Those looked like M1A1 Abram tanks in desert colors. Ways things are going in Europe, might have to repaint those. That was an interesting mix of freight cars on that train. I assume there is a horn ordinance in that town, just the bell at the crossing. Thanks Jaw.

There primary problem with the route is a short siding. Only about 8000 feet. With PSR many trains exceed it. PSR has reduced the number of trains. SB Q205, Q209, Q217, Q573, Q575 which this one is take this route, NB Q208 & Q574 usually but not always take this route. 3 other NBA usually take the LIRC route. The exceptions are if the train is less than 8000 feet. Or it is a key train. What that means it has 10 or more tank cars carrying cargo which presents a poison inhalation hazard. The reason for this is is the LIRC lacks PTC or positive train control.
Longest train history, just love it, good video🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

That intersection at 0:34 could really use a light. A two-mile long train through the middle of town can really ruin your morning, lol - thanks for another great street-runner, JT! Have a great weekend.
Pretty sure traffic engineers have studied that intersection and have decided a light there is not only not needed but would actually create more problems than it would solve.

Talked about mixed freight! I love it! With precision railroading, are they building a single train with DPUs? Or are they taking two trains and just putting them together and turning the lead locos into DPUs? Because in a few instances, I could see the freight cars after the DPUs are very different from those after. (For example, maybe on half is mostly grain, and the other is mostly tankers.)
I’m my opinion we need to move much more by rail…free up trucks for food and perishable goods.
