In Taylor's *Miss Americana* documentary, she stated how Lover was probably her last chance of being successful. However, in my opinion, Folklore has cemented to the media that Swift is a timeless artist. That her decades of singing and songwriting will be remembered, long after she is gone from the spotlight. She no longer produces music for fame or success but rather for passion and the Swifties have the honor of standing by her along this creative journey.
Taylor has just proven of how much pure talent she is. Great music, I just love how it makes me feel. Chech out my interpretation of Cardigan music video :D I'm dying to discuss it honestly :)
I been going back to her first albums and tbh they are as good in itself as anything she ever created. Imo she found herself in her first era.

I think this album just secured Taylor 10 more years of a successful career. Everyone loves this album and respects her. It is already more successful than lover, despite having less than half of the promo. Let’s hope cardigan goes #1

I’m so glad taylor’s not chasing chart toppers, or no.1 hits. I really love her new sound but i don’t think she will leave pop forever and in her future records she will probably have pop songs with huge choruses too. She doesn’t need billions of views or no.1 hits anymore she literally achieved everything an artist can. I hope she keeps pouring her heart out and us fans will be there with her throughout her journey 🤎✨

I think Taylor Swift said some of her interviews after "RED" album and before "1989" album that she doesn't want to play safe and follow up with similar kind of album no matter how successful it has been. Basically she wants to challenge herself and her fans with new music. Most of the artists would have been happy just to repeat the success formula a'la "Fearless" album.
"folklore" album shows again that Taylor is not afraid to take artistic and commercial risks, but I think this album will do fine in both ways. She could probably do a hard rock album with loud electric guitars and make it work as well. Somehow "folklore" seems to suit very well to the current state of mind in the world, only one year after "Lover" album.
Her fan base is very committed and we will stay by her side even if she disappears from the charts in the future

Seriously, im so proud of swifties. The album racked up 1.3 million in sales less than 24 hours after its release. Also the singles are doing great despite being less mainstream, cardigan is heading for the no.1 spot, and she might also debut other tracks off the album in the top 10

i don't think 'folklore' is an album meant for chart success, it's meant for critical and her own success and development. it's a way of letting the world know she has matured and she is whatever and whoever she wants to be. it's a way of letting the world know this is taylor swift

This album is a true game-changer in Taylor's career. I think she'll proceed to make indie music with pop influences, but she'll never make a pop record destined to produce chart-topping hits like 1989 again. She just doesn't want to. She knows how much she has accomplished during her career and now just wants to experiment with music and be happy while doing it.
I'm hoping for a pop rock album from taylor. Go listen to "Don't Keep Me Waiting" by Britney Spears. That's what I want.

Folklore's aesthetic imo doesn't necessarily stand on the black and white, it's rather grey. It possibly represents black and white meeting in the middle to form a balanced aesthetic, a softness on the dark and light of stories.
If anyone ever underestimates Taylor's writing ability ask them to listen to literally any song off this album.

This is so different. I like when artists take a risk and make something like this. This is just pure feelings, stories, like a book of memories...in a WORLD so social media addicted this is probably what we all need. At least i am very happy with this record.

she realized after lover she was in a rut. after an album as image shifting& impactful as reputation it wasnt natural to write the big pop anthems anymore like it was during 1989. you could tell in the lyrics of songs like me! and yntcd (by taylors high high standards) the best parts of that album are the slower deep cuts and lover (the song) of course. but after lover, after years of the 2 yr fall record release cycle, the clever hint dropping, and the heavy promotion, it was tired for both her and the gp. taylor works best alone when it comes to song writing. its a sincerity that you cant miss. im so happy she just locked herself in a room w a piano and guitar and wrote. it had been a long time since she wrote music that had nothing to do with her public perception and image, but rather on storytelling, and you can tell thats where she shines. on songs like me! shes trying to sell a feeling, but taylor shines when she is telling a story, and this album is a storybook. i love it.
That's a really good way to put it...I think when she tells us a story she gives us a feeling. You're right that she shines best in that sense. Her storytelling songs have always been the most felt by me and I'm sure a lot of others. That's why I love this album so much!!

If lover didnt exist in between, i dont think Folklore can run. We needed Lover to mellow down the strength and impact of reputation. One cant exist without the other. People would have a harder time adjusting from rep era to folklore

I find it so interesting that she’s been edging back to her country roots in a way. But I really love how the album is so stripped down, and she’s back to the storytelling she was always so good at.
Taylor is an absolute musical genius and we are so lucky to witness each album she has released. Truly iconic.

I don’t think Taylor released this album to be a radio hit. I think she just wanted to share these stories with us. Plus she’s rich af so she is in a position where she can release anything she wants and still enjoy her fans reactions.

I'm a pop fan and Pop taylor is my favorite one so I went to this album a little bit skeptical. However, i was pleasantly surprised. This is her best album yet. The storytelling and entire concept of the album is beyond brilliant. I think Taylor, with this album, has solidified herself as probably the best songwriter of our generation. She is just amazing. I have a huge feeling she's gonna win AOTY at the grammys for a third time....deservingly so.

"Folklore" by Taylor Swift is one of the few records I've heard in my life I can call beautiful. The intentions behind it, the messages in each song, the tones, the composition; it's all just simply wonderful and magnetic to a wandering soul. Another album I would describe as "beautiful" is Kate Bush's "Aerial (A Sky of Honey)" which evokes such strong emotions and flows effortlessly.
I would love to write a beautiful album one day.

And almost like a slightly subdued Treacherous from Red. I agree with the Twitter Swifites who say this album is almost a part 2 to the Red album, just leaning into the more alternative deep cuts. I love it.

There’s a special place in my heart to an album who tells stories and let me imagine them all in my head, specially during this difficult times. It helps with so much uncertainty and anxiety, and I’m truly grateful for this surprise release. Fresh air needed, and this album was just that.
This new era reminds me of Lady Gaga's Joanne, Kesha's Rainbow, and Miley Cyrus's Younger Now in a good way!

Reputation is a weak album - sonically AND lyrically, with Getaway Car as the exception - compared to Folklore. Folklore is her magnum opus. My Tears Ricochet is a better song than All Too Well. It's her best album.

It's exciting how she pushes herself to find new tones, new ways to tell stories and to grow with her music
I think this eighth Studio album is the best not only because of the lyricism but because it is so simple and Calming, I think this album resonates with all of us because during the lock down period we all have gone through some times that's why the album opens with sad songs but slowly and gradually move towards happy ending showing us that there is light at the end of the tunnel ✨
TS9 being a rock album is a dream to me. She had been flirted with rock so many times and nailed it. Now its time to fully made an entire album about it. Imagine Taylor's own version of Nevermind which could lead to rock being mainstream again. Holy moly pop dissect, you just read my mind. Hope Tay read it too lol.

I think Taylor and Katy are in similar places in there lives. Both aren’t really chasing the charts and realize that they’re solidified legends in pop and are clearly happier

Safe and Sound, yes but Eyes Open is much more rock and has a rougher sound than what is found on this album. That song is in a league of its own.

tbh, hearing the title made me think of a folk, indie-pop, indie-folk and country album
We swifties know it's a big deal when Taylor drop the f bomb on her lyrics.
She might just go this way with the rest of her career, she might make pop hits here and there but knowing that she excepted the fact that she might not have the same success as she once had she might not make pop hits or she might not feel like she needs to anymore
The vibe of the album kinda remind me of safe and sound, the archer, sad beautiful tragic, the last time, the lucky one and its nice to have a friend all mixed up together, i also tried to listen "SBT" as part of "folklore" and it really suits the mood of the album as if it were part of it in my opinion!
i feel like this a new taylor, she seems appeased, like she came to terms with her demons and finally accepted who she is. i love that album so much, and the fact that she just uses her voice as a vessel to these stories, not utilizing her image as a shop front for people to care about her music... it’s just beautiful
People sometimes complain that her music is annoying, which kinda but not that much, songs like me or shake it off can get irritating. I love that she left all that behind for this record and is just focusing on something that she is always going to be known for, which is her song writing abilities.
I think the interesting thing is that the songs she’s known for (such as SIO) are kind of outliers in terms of sound when you consider her entire discography.
W W absolutely. I think this album just proves that she doesn't need those songs to do what she loves. She may not end up with any singles on this record or any on the radio, but that is fully okay with me.

I love this album so much, I think it’s her best work tied with 1989 so far. It definitely has the fairytale vibe, but it also is very much about reality and what’s happening in the world. I was really surprised when I first heard it, and when I saw the genre said “alternative”. There are so many songs that had me wanting to cry (like “Exile”, “Epiphany”,”Betty”, and “This Is Me Trying”), and also songs I wanted to dance to even though they’re more indie (like “The 1”, “Cardigan”, “August”, and “Invisible String”.) I love this album so much and I’m so proud of Taylor because I know this is so out of her comfort zone, just like 1989 was.

I agree with some of the other comments that it seems like she was tired of her usual way of doing things. It also simply would not have worked - if she had announced an album and done the whole Easter egg thing for months before she released it critics and cynics would’ve called her selfish and obsessed with herself. Overall this was literally the best thing she has done in her career and the best thing she could’ve done as an artist during these times. Plus it’s honestly such a gift to the fans. I’m grateful that in the midst of COVID and protests, it’s a complicated album focused on heartbreak and the intricacies of life and love - not some overly happy go lucky “we’re gonna get through this!!!!” sort of thing. I’m truly so proud of her and how far she’s come! Folklore is an absolute masterpiece that feels like a hot cup of coffee that soothes the soul. I am SO curious what shes gonna do about the tour, though. But honestly knowing T she’s probably already figured it out - Folklore of Lovers tour, anyone?

I would love to see Ms. Swift do a Soft Rock Album as her next project. Like Lin Manuel Miranda and her friend Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift just doesn't like one type of Music, she loves all types of Music and is a big supporter of Music, I don't know many artist in the last Fifteen Years or in general that would donate signed copies of her CD's for free to Local Record Stores.
I love the maturity and absolutely beautiful lyricism she puts out with this album. It’s honestly one of my favourites, alongside Reputation. My fav tracks (I have a lot😂) are mirrorball, cardigan, seven, august and invisible string. I totally agree that this era is so refreshing, and I’d love for her to continue in this direction musically in the future.

I am a TS fan since 2013. Which is kinda unusual, bc I always liked indie bands and alternative music. I wasn't really interested in mainstream pop music. Red made me a fan, and i still am a HUGE fan to this day. Every record is wonderful, but folklore + evermore really felt like a dream come true, working with the National and Bon Iver. I think pretty much everything she has done in her past, have led up to this point. I am forever grateful to be a swiftie, what an icon. Best songwriter of our generation.

this album showcases her songwriting and her maturity. i’ve described it as bittersweet. even though she’s writing from many different perspectives, i think all the songs have a little of taylor’s own life in them. it’s my favorite thing she’s put out yet. i’m so grateful that she has the freedom to do this.

Her recent albums were written about mostly of her experiences but with folklore she went further out since her lyricism is her always strength. She was no longer storytelling herself but all the stories she heard. When she said "I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down." and indeed that's what folklore is.
I think it is the fault of radio for not having these songs as radio hits. Why not have these songs be radio hits. These songs 1000 times better than anything on the radio right now. Masterpiece.

Folklore is a Masterpiece. Her best work yet and that is something to say bcs all her albums are great! Even Debut ( which I feel that is underrated) three successful genre transitions!!! I really hope she gives us one more Alt album. Her voice never sounded better, her writing and storytelling surpassed Red and the instrumental is beautiful. Wooow she just does not stop proving that she deserves every inch of success she’s had. All the hate she got(and still gets) is very undeserved. I'm happy Taylor decided to go in this direction for her new album, not many artist who have alot of success ever take this kind of turn since it's further away from mainstream (that or its there label not wanting them to do it) overall I'm loving this era
