      Just pinning this: I’m NOT encouraging listening to the originals. Like if you wanna do that, please use the existing CDs and try not to stream them if a Taylor’s Version exists. I just wanted to share my thoughts about why I feel weird about the TV albums sometimes, I’ve seen a few comments misinterpreting my video or whatever. I’ll be supporting Taylor’s rights to own her art by buying and streaming these versions as they come out. But if I have the originals on CD and I miss them, I’ll listen to them there.

    I actually love Taylor's Versions and think they're way more interesting. I feel I can connect better to 31-year-old Taylor. She's deeper and more mature. But I totally understand why some fans would prefer the old versions. For me, they just sound naive and don't work anymore. I think it depends a lot on your own journey through life and what you're looking for in art.

    • @beatrizgomes4094

      It’s the same with me, maybe because I’m a newer fan. But speaking of time and reflection, the one I’m looking forward the most is definitely Reputation, because with all the other re-recordings, she will sing about relationships and stuff she probably moved on from, which may be why some people feel the emotion in the delivery is different. Buuut in Rep she will revisit the beginnings of a relationship that only grew deeper with time, and the 2016 stuff that probably still hurts, even a little

    Anyone who's recorded vocals can tell you most everything can be fixed in mixing/mastering EXCEPT emotion in the delivery - you absolutely can hear a smile or a struggle and it IS a loss to no longer be able to share the versions that capture the moments in time these were written and recorded. I'm sure Taylor feels it too

    I understand what you mean. I also feel like the original versions hit different, but the reason why it does for me atleast is because in the original versions of these songs you can hear so much emotion in the songs as she sings them. Yes her vocals have improved, but you can tell that she has moved on from the era she's singing about. Whereas in the original the different emotions she was singing about in the songs were fresh and new and recent. So it sounded more raw and real. Fearless I didn't really care all that much about because it never really touched me except for love story and so I just thought all of that was an improvement. But speak now all the way to reputation are the albums that have meant so much to me. Somehow I always end up hearing folklore and evermore when I hear any of the rerecordings. The only joy I feel when thinking about the rerecordings are that I can listen to the songs on spotify without giving money to you-know-who and that she's putting out songs from the vault. Regardless though I want to support her and listen to her rerecordings.

    • @islandrebelmakeup4653
      @islandrebelmakeup4653 Год назад +2

      Her style of singing has definitely changed. She sings notes differently than she used to, probably due to training, as these changes generally give more control and support, but you can hear the difference. It’s probably why it sounds like folklore/evermore.

    • @imaginativegirl126
      @imaginativegirl126 Год назад

      I totally get what you mean about the emotion aspect of the originals. The emotion there feels more potent whereas now there's a sense of been there done that. All Too Well from the original Red and The Way I Loved You from Fearless in particular hit different ngl. Though there was more to gain overall from the rerecordings like vault tracks but yeah it came at a cost.

    I know what you mean. In the OG Fifteen there's a lyric she sings and there's a split second (VERY subtle) where it sounds like she's about to burst into laughter. Like she realizes how much she's accomplished at her age of 18. It's not in TV.

      YES! I missed that in the TV and it’s little stuff like that I’ll miss, though I’m sure there’ll be little things like that in the later album rerecords (like I can imagine some laughs during the rep rerecords since those will be the last.)

    TV versions are awesome cause to me its like she's reading old journals and viewing them under a new light, the emotions may be not like the OG but there are new ones and new little quirks that makes the song feel new and fresh, its about two different time period her young self and her grown one. "Never grow up" its going to make us cry hard.

    I absolutely understand what you're saying. I've been a hardcore fan for about 2-3 years but I've known her music since Red as that's when she really had worldwide reach (not that she doesn't now). I'm one of those people that I'm so excited for the re-recorded versions and I just want to ditch the old versions because the new ones will sound so much better. But again, that's just how I feel about the re-recordings. For instance, I don't even want to listen to the original Fearless - I tried and I didn't like it as much as Fearless (Taylor's Version). Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version) is even more impressive. I'll always love the original versions but I'm ready to let them go as it's for the better. But one thing is for sure - Taylor has to do that no matter how swifties feel about it.
    Also you can download some good old MP3 files of her songs. You aren't supporting anyone when listening to them or, as you said, use the CD if you have it.

    Like we as fans love the first versions of her music so much and is hard for us to let go fully and I did understand, emphasize and support Taylor about her re-recordings but this is the first time I am finding it hard and am sad over it and now MUCH worse than what I am feeling right now, Taylor would have felt.
    But she still navigated her way through all of it and more. I am so proud of her. Truly.

      I honestly can’t imagine how sad it was when she realized that Scott (and later Scooter) would never give her a fair chance to buy her masters. Big Machine Records offered her a deal where she’s trade a new album (so Lover and onwards) for one of the old masters back which tbh was evil of them to do.

    when i saw the title of this vid and watched it i was like ' why? they feel the same to me?' so i decided to listen the tv and queued the stolen version after and i absolutely adore the tv, don't get me wrong, but when i heard the stolen version my heart ached a little. the stolen version will always remind me of sitting in the back corner of the classroom with my bestfriend in 7th grade and singing this along to the beats of the cup song lmao. like when i was making my middle school nostalgia playlist, i SOMEHOW didn't add wildest dreams and my bsf texted me saying ' you didn't put wildest dreams it's literally our friendship anthem' lol.
    so although i only became a proper swiftie last year miss taylor alison swift still made her way into my childhood and i have an emotional attachment to some of the stolen versions of her songs ( basically all the ones that were hits worldwide), but also in a way i'm glad we're getting these versions that sound a tiny bit different because in a pandemic where time feels a little blurry, we're constantly looking back to those times when all these restrictions didn't exist, but having these 'newer' versions (WHICH ARE ALSO OWNED BY HER), gives us something to look forward to the future with, and like you said, make new memories with

    Omg I agree with most of what you said. I want to support the new recordings but it feels like I have to somehow grow up and let go of the past too. I definitely feel/hear the 'uncertainty' in her old recordings, but I really connect with it. Her songs are about the feelings of someone who doubts herself so the insecurity of her voice makes it more real. The recordings sound like someone who knows they're a success and they're just showing off their voice, like a kids talent show maybe. The old one is like more real. I guess it's because she was closer in time to the emotional events that inspired the old songs. That said, she did say she is still making new songs so hopefully it will sound more authentic to how she's feeling/how it's meant to feel.

    This!! I've been saying this!!
    It felt so bittersweet to me, listening to the re-recorded versions and realizing just how used I was to the tiny details! Like her little voice cracks, her shrieks and all those things that came naturally out of raw emotion... Now they're just an imitation of that.
    Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the fact that you can hear her massive improvement as a singer, but it still sounds kind of foreign. It's insane just how well I knew the stolen versions! Every lyric, note, breath... "That what 12 years of experience gets you" lol.
    Production-wise, my pet peeves continue to be IKYWT, 22 and Wildest Dreams. I know it's nearly impossible because they work with the best equipment and have a metronome lol, but at times either the syllables (Wildest Dreams) or the beat itself (IKYWT, 22) feel like they come in just a fraction of a second earlier than they should, and it pisses me off because I can't unhear it.
    And I'm gonna get obnoxiously picky on this but there's a synth that plays a plain note halfway through Wildest Dreams that I swore wasn't there on the old version, and the last chorus has a shit-ton of other synths and background vocals that feel new as well. The beat right before the "Ahhh, ahhh-ooh" part in Trouble always sounds a liiittle bit off tempo to me and I don't know why 😭😭, and the background vocals for the 22 hook ("Idk 'bout you, but I'm feeling twenty-TWO-OH") are much louder than the old version, AND there's a TEEEEENY tiny bit on the second chorus ("If you keep me next to YOU", 1:56 on the lyric video) that LEGIT sounds like a scrapped adlib they just forgot to cut off entirely lmao. I know these are extremely specific but I swear they lowkey haunt me every time I play the re-recorded versions

They don't have the same "scream at the top of your lungs" vibe and don't quite hit the same, even if it is just subtle differences you can't put your finger on, or a change of raw emotion in a lyric,(for me "the story of us" stands out to me the most with this) but mad respect to taylor she has grown so much and I will listen to anything she puts out there at this point

Especially in fearless & speak now I really love the whining and crying way she sings you can hear the emotion of a young girl. In the newer versions it feels like she’s mature and looking back on these songs and stories and isn’t as engulfed in it. I vastly prefer the stolen version of wildest dreams. I feel the same about WANEGBT and Sparks Fly, and these are some of my favorites in her discography. I want to stream the Taylor’s versions so bad (like I do for every other old track) but these 3 songs just make me so sad to listen to, so I still stream stolen version. I hope she somehow acquires the stolen versions again some day

      There's a particular version of Wildest Dreams (the music video/radio version) I still have a copy of that I religiously listen to. So yeah, I very much understand you streaming a few of her stolen versions (Better than Revenge OG in particular for me too.) I do think she will reacquire the originals one day though.

      Speak Now tbh will sound pretty close if not better with her mature vocals and because Christopher Rowe did a p good job recreating the Fearless TV.
      Rep TV is gonna be a little harder. The Antonoff tracks are gonna be pretty identical if not a little clearer. But the Martin tracks (End Game, Gorgeous, RFI?, etc.) are tough. I know Shellback who did a few will probably help though. But yeah, I do get the concern.

    so (tangent incoming!) a lot of my favourite shows and movies are Disney owned products, and most used to cycle between streaming services that I pay for, depending on who had the rights. and, while I can see the utility of Disney creating its own service and consolidating it’s products under its own banner, I did not want to pay money to a company whose ethics I take issue with, so instead of getting Disney+ I upgraded my DVD player and bought a bunch of DVD’s second hand. I kind of feel the same about the TV albums… I see them as a mostly commercial venture, to a) devalue the old records and b) be able to use her songs commercially as she likes. Taylor said this in an interview back before rerecords started. In a commercial setting, it doesn’t really matter is the emotions is the same etc., that only matters to the fans. I think Taylor has been doing a decent job of keeping rereleases interesting for us- adding vault tracks, remixes etc and I think she’ll need to keep upping the ante in that regard because the Scooter drama is far enough away that we’re not as motivated by rage towards him anymore as we were way back when. I don’t want to give him any of my money but the TV albums just lack that emotional connection for me, so I’d say I’ll be purchasing some second hand CD’s of Taylor’s old work.

      That’s true! Every track on Red TV feels more confident but wistful. The Vault Tracks make me sad that Big Machine Records probably requested some be left off or changed to fit their needs. Like had Red had Better Man or even Babe and Nothing New, it would have been a bigger smash but I’m glad we got the all the tracks we could have.

      The Red TV instrumentals especially for the songs done by Max Martin are just odd. Both WANEGBT and IKYWT have clear variations. I’m a little concerned for some of the 1989 rerecordings because of that. Rep’s probably easier considering Jack did a chunk of those.

    The subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences in a lot of red make it so I’m honestly not willing to switch to taylor’s version as I thought I was going to. There’s a lack of emotion to some of it, in comparison to the originals, which is to be expected as it’s like 10 years after they were made, but still. I still think they’re very well done, and someone who is listening for the first time should definitely consume those versions instead, but as someone who already knows every little intricacy of the originals, it’s a little too difficult to transition.
    Now, I must add that I’m not streaming these. The files I listen to are ones I illegally downloaded from The Pirate Bay a decade ago. So no one is getting money or any other numbers from me listening to these either way. I’m already in possession of all of her first 6 albums in this way as well as on vinyl.

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  Год назад

      I agree so hard with everything you said. I think some of the intonations and shakier younger vocals are so ingrained in my memories… it’s hard to quite let go. I think that opinion will definitely be held when rerecordings for Speak Now drop in the near future.
      Tbh how you listen to the Stolen Versions are more or less how I do it. I ripped my old CD copies and uploaded them to my Spotify/Apple with special tags to denote they’re from the older versions. That way Ithica Holdings/whoever owns those versions now are denied payment.

      @@EljohnMacaranas yeah. We also should note that Taylor and all the original writers still make money either way we listen. It may be a bigger dividend from the re-recordings (tho there’s a good chance there’s not, considering republic doesn’t own these, and know they probably won’t be making money off of them forever, so wouldn’t want such a lax contract), but it’s not like she and the other writers don’t make money off them.

    I know there’s thousands of people thinking she already owns the old masters now, but personally I don’t believe this. We know Taylor’s an extremely smart businesswoman, she’s not trying to replace the old songs, she’s trying to DEVALUE them, which is exactly what the re-recordings are doing! Taylor knows that she could’ve spent $300 million (guessing) on the originals or she can do this, make a shit ton of money from it too, devalue the originals to the point that they’re practically worthless to anybody but her and then in my opinion, at the end she’ll swoop in and buy them up when they’re worth less to anybody but her.

    The entire Scooter Braun mess is going to wind up dividing the Swift listeners into two separate camps; those who will accept Taylor’s versions with open arms, and those who will insist on authenticity in their collections, meaning they will want the ORIGINAL RECORDINGS. Also, one crucial point that has really hurt her legacy is that she can never really have a true “Greatest Hits” or “Best of” collection, because that segment of the audience that insists on the real recordings will dismiss a collection with just her post-Reputation recordings in them. Discogs even has such a collection listed, but it’s from Russia and clearly a bootleg.

    • @EljohnMacaranas
      @EljohnMacaranas  Год назад

      I do believe if she were to ever get her catalog back years down the line, a lot of curious listeners and nostalgic folk will take up the older versions. It’s kinda like for lack of better direct metaphor a tougher version of the Special Edition Star Wars OT films [except some of Taylor’s versions are objectively better than the G tracks (at least in vocal voicing and like mixing) oh and the fact you can still legally obtain the originals]

      @@EljohnMacaranas I still feel we will continue to see ugliness in the whole situation going forward. Take for example the extra bonus tracks given to Target over the years for their “exclusive edition” series. What’s to stop Scooter’s people from assembling those into a separate release, even Minus Taylor’s blessing? Does she have the power to veto anything new Scooter might try to plop out there from the Big Machine catalog? Strangely enough, it would seem to me Taylor would just encourage fans to copy the first 6 albums for anyone that wants them, free and clear. Just to keep Scooter from accessing more of her sweat. Do you think she would go for such a move, being what this case is?

      @@EljohnMacaranas There are two reasons why I prefer to stream or listen to the original versions of songs. Firstly, I don't like the edited versions that are played on TV, such as "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" where I dislike the "we" part. Secondly, I listen to the original versions when I want to experience the raw emotion of a song. For instance, in "Last Kiss," you can hear the hurt and sadness in her voice, which is absent in the edited versions played on TV. This is because the pain and emotions conveyed in the original version cannot be replicated in the TV version as it doesn't hurt like it once did. I believe that everyone should listen to whichever version makes them happy.
