I'd love to hear the vaulted tracks for sure. I just know there were some demos in there that made their way melodically into Midnights or other projects.
I wrote Taylor off after hearing "ME!" and was planning on not listening to this album but after watching this I decided to give it a spin. Well I'm glad I did because there are a bunch of bops, jams and anthems. I'm really enjoying "Cruel Summer", "The Man", "The Archer", "I Think He Knows", "Cornelia Street" and "Death By A Thousand Cuts". One theme I've noticed on this album is that it sounds a lot like other artists/bands I really enjoy. "The Man" could have easily been a Dorian Electra single, "The Archer" is channeling the Chromatics moody synths, "I Think He Knows" sounds like a cut from Carly Rae Jepsen's Dedicated, "Miss America & The Heartbreak Prince" has that Lana Del Ray flourish, "You Need To Calm Down" sounds like it took a sample from The Knife's "Heartbeats" and "Death By A Thousand Cuts" reminds me of a post-Contra Vampire Weekend track. I still dislike "ME!" and will probably skip it every time it plays but over all I would say this is as enjoyable for me as 1989 is.
I watched all your lover reviews chronologically and damn, as a swiftie it's so satisfying to see her so called 'flop' album with messy singles age like fine wine.
I still hold reservations about Me! and YNTCD from a strategic standpoint for sure but yeah it aged tremendously compared to other works from that year
It’s definitely a preferential thing. I just really wanted a follow-up to Stay Stay Stay in some ways. There’s something about the way it’s so peppy and happy and the country twist at the end. I adore it to bits!
I started to appreciate Reputation a lil bit prior to the Lover cycle, but I do get the aversion. This album is truly welcoming like a warm cozy familiar blanket. Like a vintage shirt from your favorite store that’s factory-new but clearly designed with patches and details to make you think it was old.
I actually really like reputation personally, however I can see how it isn't for everyone as the sound of the album isn't/wasn't familiar to most people (especially when it released) who may like to listen to Taylor Swift but aren't considered "swifties" I used to not like it either. I only got into it and appreciated it long after the era was over.
It's been almost 4 years since Lover got released and I'm not over it anytime soon... I know that she has moved on and the world has moved on but I just can't, there's something about this album that makes me drawn to it. It has some of my favorite Taylor's songs: Afterglow, Daylight, Cornelia Street, Miss Americana, Cruel Summer, The Man... If I'm being honest, none of her post Lover ALBUMS (as a whole) clicked with me like this record did.
Cruel Summer was co-written by the amazing St. Vincent! I forgot to mention it!
I did not realize St Vincent was involved. I love her discography. Wow. That's awesome.
Actually she did not co-write the song, Taylor just got inspired from one of her songs
She needs to release Lover again like the re-recordings but just a Deluxe version and can include the Cruel Summer Music Video
I'd love to hear the vaulted tracks for sure. I just know there were some demos in there that made their way melodically into Midnights or other projects.
You literally predicted it
I was so disappointed with the first 2 singles, but the archer gave me hope, and she delivered.
She sooooo did! This album is everything I needed and more!
All I’m gonna say about London boy (as a Londoner) is that hackney isn’t a very romantic place
“Getaway car on steroids” 😂
I can’t be the only one who still hasn’t given up on getting Cruel Summer MV someday
Allegedly, there was one shot or at least storyboarded by her team but because of the pandemic and Lover Fest being cancelled, it never came to be.
Top 5
1) Cruel Summer
2) Paper Rings
3) Afterglow
4) The Man
5) Miss Americana OR Cornelia Street

I think she emulates a lot of artists too! It’s wild but her lyricism always reminds me it’s her.
Death by a Thousand Cuts /is/ that song!
Miss americana doesn’t have any lana del rey touch to it…
I don’t even like Taylor Swift but I’m here to support your content king!
Legend! Thanks!

the death by a thousand cuts slander....
I loved every track from the album but i don’t really get the hype around paper rings..

i LOVE the spelling is fun line ILL YELL IT WITH YA TOO XD
1:52 Swift is notorious for not making her best songs singles, unfortunately
It worked for years but 2019 was the year it went “nah”
I swear we better get a freaking spelling is fun in ME on tour!! Also can you make a discord server ??
im posting this a day before its 4 years old lol
4 years of Lover omfg!
@@EljohnMacaranas ikr lol
Do you prefer Dedicated or Lover?
Slight preference for Dedicated bc it’s more cohesive. But I adore both!
I totally forgot this was coming out...yikes that's an issue for publicity. I need to go and listen before I watch this... be back later
I zoned out from like track 4 to track 9 but I didn’t like it enough to bother to relisten
Oh, you’re definitely going to like the later tracks then! I feel like Jack’s production may be a snooze for some people.
That sign off sent me! I cant wait to hear this album
Lmao! I kept that in there for my fellow Swifties.
16:30 “When I go to the Lover world tour, I will…” oh to live in a time without knowing anything about covid :s
Literally I’m gutted… what a time capsule!
i did NOT like reputation except for one or two songs. but i think im going to be listening to this album a lot!

Watching this in 2022 and when you say “When I go to the Loverfest tour!” ….oof
The way I collapsed on my knees at a taco bell when i got the cancellation email 😭
@@EljohnMacaranas When she wrote “help I’m still at the restaurant” in RWYLM this is what she was inspired by 😭

The way she's performing a decent chunk of the album at the Eras tour means she hasn't quite moved on tbh 😭
@@EljohnMacaranas yes, i was delighted when I saw that
State Of Grace is def the best opener 🖤
Oh agreed. Such a tone setting classic!
Having now heard DBATC live versions, what are your thoughts on it now? I think her tiny desk concert version is amazing
Oh acoustically the song shines, I wish it had been a staple on the Eras Tour!
I agree it's best acoustic! Love your content, currently binging all your Taylor videos 😂
19:35 - now we know - she took us to the world of nature, organic sounds and storytelling not often seen before in her previous albums
I really adore your channel. I’ve been watching all your videos and I can’t get enough
Thank you so much! I will say you have reminded me that I need to give Lover its own proper era revisit video…
the man reminds me a bit of The One by Carly
Yessss! That chord progression
