    In Berlin for example, you can find so many different opinions to go to an sports live event. It's not just football, we have basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, handball. People go there with a lot of passion, but also with their families or friends. I find our life in Europe for the most cases much more relaxed and it's not necessary that everything is 24/7 available. That system is responsible for a lot of waste.

      That’s really insightful- thanks for your response! I agree the lifestyle is much for relaxed and careful about waste. One of the many many things I love about Europe!

    Americans when they think of Europe usually think of Western Europe, The east is its own thing, in some ways closer to the Americans, in that we are a bit wilder, more frontier-type people or the descendence of them, so the culture reflects that long time spent in small communities, an expectation of self-reliance and slight anarchistic tendencies. Partly why capitalism worked so well

    The US is all about social status and social status is about job and money but job is mostly about money. That's the fundamental difference and what leads to the politics, the aggressivity and how conflictual the US is, the work work work, the education system, healthcare, the USA is #1 arrogance, the imperialism (military bases and corporate imperialism plus the need for an opponent, China nowadays, USSR in the past). Even the larger cars are in part a matter of social status and why folks spend more than they can afford on cars. People also tend to be early adopters of new things as they move quickly towards keeping up - sometimes that goes very wrong like with urban sprawling. Obviously it's also why corporations can exploit workers (long hours, little vacation) , why crime rates are relatively high ( people are educated to take advantage of any opportunities and that can go too far). Even racism is propagated by segregation and segregation is mostly about social status. Anyway, that's the curse, the key problem and what needs to be fixed but the US is yet to figure that one out. Social status is why maybe some people back home might have felt hurt when you left the US, the US is supposed to be the greatest place so you are not supposed to want to go elsewhere and you kinda lower its social status by wanting to experience something else.
    Another major difference is that, because of the EU, it's easier to move and have contact with other cultures so there are less conflicts - the internet achieves that to some extent too but the US kinda looks down on everyone (the USA #1 thing) so it's harder to get positive results in this direction.
    Traditions are also more of a thing in Europe, older history and religion is overall less relevant and certainly less aggressive - Romania is supposed to be super religious but i'm sure nobody has harassed you about converting or anything.
    Being more direct overall is another major difference. With major variations within Europe though- the Brits are quite very indirect and even in Romania, people can be very indirect about some things, quite direct about others. Actually, even generalizing to the entire Europe is a US specific thing, nobody else does it - it's a continent with 44+ nations and a lot more that that when it comes to cultures.
    Oh and btw you do have an accent, US accent.

    • @sierramarie
      @sierramarie  Год назад

      Its so interesting being away from the US for almost a year now and noticing and learning things that I never noticed before. You easily get trapped in that hustle culture mentality in the US, because its everywhere. I can definitely say that I had ignorance about this other side of the world before I moved. You don't know until you know! Everything to me is that much extra and cool when traveling- now that I get to see it in person 😄 I love just walking around Romania and staring at all the cool buildings! Amongst a list of a ton of other things :) This comment you've made has really great points. I have noticed more and more the obsession with work in the US and how most of my conversations with people back home usually revolve around work or how busy things are. Very very eye opening. Every country has its plus and minuses. Have you ever watched the show suits on Netflix? Its a few years old, but when I feel like a lot of the points you make align with and are brought to light in that show! I feel this experience has taught me so much understanding and care for those around me. I am appreciating learning more about myself, others and the world around me to continue growing and becoming the best version of me I can be! As far as accent, I wish I could download a Scottish one into my brain 😆 Again, Thank you for the thoughtfulness and time you took to write this comment. I appreciate you being here and supporting me!

    • @realjx313
      @realjx313 Год назад +1

      @@sierramarie Yeah people are defined by their job in the US so they talk a lot about it - also, when they meet someone new, one of the first questions is what do you do? Koreans are gonna ask your age so they know how to address you, folks from the US are gonna ask about your job lol. In Europe , generalizing a bit, the job just puts food on the table, funds life.
      And architecture in Romania, look into Sighisoara, Brasov, Oradea, Tmisoara, i suppose also Bucharest and Iasi, maybe Sibiu, Alba Iulia. And the many churches and monasteries that are Unesco world heritage sites. Then Peles castle, Bran castle, Corvin castle.
      There is channel, Eva zu Beck or something like that, she had 6=7 interesting videos about Romania 2-3 years ago. Also Mark Wiens had some food videos, You shoudl check those out, they are pretty good.
      Anyway, think about the American Dream - Work hard and and then you make it (social status,money). It kinda is what drives and steers the entire thing towards how things are today. If the core values wouldn't be social status and money but something else, that would be more reasonable and more functional. But things kinda went towards consumerism, materialism and that has undermined all other values. The US has to pivot a bit away from that but will be hard to achieve, maybe only when robots start to do all the work and there is no other option. Will take a bit of time until that happens though, AI needs to be able to learn much faster than today- and then it will overnight be a million times smarter than us. For now it takes so much work to train it that it can only know a tiny slice of the big picture.
      Oh BTW, May 1st (usually it turns into a long weekend) at the seaside in Vama Veche is kinda the equivalent of the spring break in FL - just kinda so only to some extent. I don't, Vama Veche is more of a hippy vibe and the crowd will be mostly high school and Uni kids but May 1st is the first wave of fun and maybe be an interesting experience for you guys if you decide to check it out - it will be full though so finding a room this late might be hard.

      I think it’s hard to fully capture all of the amazing things each part of Europe has individually without over generalizing. You are right that some history and architecture definitely dates back so much farther!
      I’m wondering now what the oldest building must have been out of the 12 countries I’ve seen in Europe 🤔 Maybe in Austria or Hungary??

    Smoking = cool? Really dude? :)) It may be more common in Europe than in America, but it's not cool. Smoking is banned in all indoors public spaces anywhere in the EU, so smokers always have to get out for a smoke. What's cool about that? Also, I don't have any smoking friends and I would never date a smoking girl lol, call me shallow but that's the truth :))

      It’s all the cool kids now adays 😎 But maybe that’s just funny thoughts from a naive American 🤣 The only indoor place I saw smoking anywhere in Europe so far was the Bucharest airport, I’m not sure if they still have it though! & to each their own, no judgement here! I don’t personally know anyone who smokes (neither do I) so it was really shocking to me at first when I moved abroad!
