Based on a suggestion from the audience, Gabriela Montero performs an improvisation on the "Harry Potter" soundtrack theme by John Williams.
Part 4 of the event "An evening Gabriela Montero: Improvisations, Brahms and Ginastera", featuring a recital of pieces by Johannes Brahms and Alberto Ginastera, as well as Montero's famous improvisations after suggestions from the audience - on themes by Giacomo Puccini, John Williams, Frédéric Chopin, Astor Piazzolla, and more.

About "An Evening with Gabriela Montero"
Gabriela Montero loves improvisation. The Venezuelan artist masters this uncommon art like
no other contemporary classical pianist. In her concerts, this remarkable talent has become
the highlight. This recital recording captures Montero's ephemeral gimmicks that fascinate
her audience.
Born in Caracas, Gabriela gave her first public performance at the age of five. She made her
concerto début with the “Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra” conducted by José Antonio Abreu
and was granted a scholarship from the Venezuelan government to study in the USA at the
age of eight. From her first contact with a piano, Gabriela has always improvised. At the
behest of Martha Argerich she decided to make it public, ignoring the possibility of being
perceived improper.

as always, while brilliant, the improve has nothing to little to do with the theme given. i did the same trick in my spanish essay exam 😅
It’s not supposed to play the same theme over and over again, she starts it and then expands on it, develops it, and brings it back for a big finish, just like a real piece does.
Además de ser una consumada Pianista reconocida internacionalmente, tiene ese GRANDIOSO DON DE IMPROVISAR SOBRE UN TEMA MUSICAL EN EL ACTO. eso demuestra que tiene esencia musical por doquier, y no cualquier Músico o intérprete es capaz de improvisar en esta forma.

A theme alone is not an entire piece of it was it would be a type of structure called theme and variations she plays with many kinds of structures besides that in a sort of sonatina three part intro them development where she moves away to create tension then she brings it back for a recapitulation. In music you have unity which is familiar and variety to add interest and you need both to have a compelling piece.
