- Magnetic Shifter Mods have been around for a while now, and supposedly offer a significant improvement in the feel of the paddles on your wheel by using neodymium magnets to create a much more aggressive snap back into position.
To be honest I had always been pretty happy with how my Fanatec Formula V2 and BMW GT2 wheels felt, so I never really felt the need to upgrade them, but Marc from MB Studio very graciously reached out and offered to send me a set of his magnetic shifters for both my V2 and BMW GT2 wheels, so I decided to give them a go!

The Podium APMs are great! What a difference and Magnetic 💯
You can adjust the throw of the shifters paddles with the two set screws on the side of the paddles. My shifters only move a 1/4 inch now. Btw you got me back into race room, by far the best game for sense of speed

I use the same Fanatec F1 wheel like you and I sometimes slip over the shifting pedals and therefore I misshift. It's annoying sometimes especially in hairpins if you are a gear too high. Nice review, thanks.
Sold out already 🙁. I have the formula Clubsport esports wheel. I like the shifters but they are exactly the same as the ones you have on your Clubsport wheel. I also hold the shifter in close to the contact point. This is a definite upgrade. Thanks for the vid 😊

Those are essentially copies of amstudios magnetic shifters
Was amstudio the first to do them? Everyone is copying someone at some point now. $20 if it includes shipping is well worth the effort.

Firstly,the design of the F1 magnetic shifter is completely different but the purpose is the same.For my design,i used to do measurement by myself.Maybe you could say i buy the file from AMstudio & copy the data but it is not that simple.Those files from AMstudio is in STL format which means you can’t do any modification or measure the exact value while using Solidworks.Also,the file need to charged money but i know how to draw a 3D model then why i need to pay for it.I can create a new one by my own.
Secondly,AMstudio designed a f1 wheel set & Universal hub set only,then how about the BMW and Porsche set.I used to design the magnetic shifters for BMW and Porsche by myself.Where can i copy it from?And i also designed a universal hub too but it is different from AMstudio too.You can take a look at my Facebook page.
Thirdly,the profit is not that high as you think .I need to use my time to do measurements,draw the models,buy a 3d printer+filament,pay for electricity bill +magnets+packaging.Hope you can understand.

@@marcbaker8188 , hi mate. ... I understand exactly where your coming from. Profit is minimal especially when you include shipping. I've put thousands of hours into learning Fusion360, mechanical and industrial design. So I know how effort and reward or recognition feels.
I've lost count how many times I seen my own models on products on eBay... there is no way to stop it. It's just nature of the maker community. Thats why I put my files up for free on thingiverse. That way I don't get upset when I see them ripped for other sellers. If you're silly enough to pay for my models instead of getting them free from thingiverse...
STL's aren't secure...people have taken my watermarks off an STL with meshmixer in seconds. It's not hard. It's amazing how many G25 Stubby short adaptors suddenly hit thingiverse after I directly modeled the original part for my adaptor kit.... Make of that what you will...
Modifying STL's is pretty easy too. Fusion360 can do a cross sectional projection of a STL profile. Not hard to build the exact dimensions out from there.
Well done on your design though. Looks great. Works well. That's what it's all about.

Haiiii!
So I'm ready for public shame-ing. ;) I just got these and they were SUPER easy to install, but am I the only one who isn't bothering with the double-sided tape? I get it... it seems like it would be necessary so you don't lose a magnet, but I installed the backplate, slid the magnet along the shifter, it SNAPPED into place, and was good to go. I was like... okay, but I didn't install the tape yet. So I tested things by shifting a bunch of times, no movement. Okay, I'll hold the shifter open, and when it's held that way surely the magnet will fall out. Nope... never seemed to move an inch. Am I crazy? Am I doing it wrong? Is anyone reading this?
As it stands, I'll keep the tape in the bag with the original Fanatec screws "just in case", but it seems to be working fine without.
Sounds like maybe you’re smarter than the rest of us. Lol!
I think the magnet on the paddle shifter could potentially move side to side a very small amount, because it wants to stay in a straight line with the magnet on the backplate. After thousands of shifts maybe that might scratch the coating on the shifter paddles?
That's the only possible risk I can think of. High end magnetic shifters don't use adhesive either, but they have spot for the magnet to sit in that prevents any movement.
What do you have the AI set at for RR? To be honest, the AI in RR is one of the, if not the best out there atm.
However you need to find the sweet spot for your ability....or they will keep running you down.
There is a way to train the AI as well if you are having a hard time trying to find the right percentage.
The adaptive AI takes a little install...and some laps....

My only prob with the bmw paddles is I feel they are a bit light? I would love a heavier spring, so that I have something to overcome to make the shift. Do you feel that this mod makes the actual shift action feel heavier?

I was thinking about getting that exact wheel, but I have a Thrustmaster T3PA petals. Does anyone know if they’re compatible with the Fanitic racing wheels?
Not directly. You can plug both systems in and just use the FANATEC wheel and thrust master pedals. But you can’t plug the pedals I to the FANATEC wheel.

I purchased these 5/4/2020 on Will's recommendation. Here it is July 16 and still no magnetic shifters nor a refund. I would much rather have the shifters than a refund.....I don't order much from over seas but makes me leery of ever ordering again.

IMO this mod is more cosmetic and something one would do for pleasure rather than for any kind of measurable improvement in actual performance or reduction of the paddle's travel. It makes absolutely no difference at all to the way the paddles work other than just making it go back into its neutral position slightly faster. Having said that I think I'd enjoy the more mechanical feel and the nice click they make with the mod.

u should try and make braking a priority here try later and much harder braking force that would make a lot of dif ,good luck m8 love ur vids .
I'll happily admit I'm slow at raceroom because I've only used it for maybe 2 hours in total. I absolutely loved it at first but I need to put more time in to Time Trial and Practice modes without other cars I think because every race I do against AI i just get rammed.
@@boostedmedia well for 2 hours in you are doing great , your aprouch to the corners should be more agressive on the braking point and try to brake harder push that pedal in hard and fast , add braking in settings to the point u lock your tires then move a step back and try again . i hope u get better its a great racing game .
