    Great review. I've had mine almost a year and hardly worn anything else since. I really didn't expect to love it this much. I've found it a joy to wear and the way the gilt catches the light is mesmerising.

    I’ll preface my comments by saying I’m fortunate to own a nice collection of relatively high-end watches. Including several Rolex, Omega, JLC, Cartier…even Patek, AP, and ALS. Of them all, the one I wear most is my Tudor BB58 blue. It’s just that good!!!!!

    Glad to see you semi regularly back doing reviews. You’re one of the first watch yt channels I ever subscribed to.
    I used to have the ETA black bay 41 and always found it just too chunky. I ended up trading it earlier this year for the BB58 Blue and couldn’t be happier. It’s an amazing watch and IMO best value for the money

    I think I prefer a COSC certified movement to any “glidelock “ adjustment clasp. They had to make the budget work. Also older Rolex don’t have glidelocks either and it’s just fine. It’s not needed often. I just hear every review mention the missing microadjustment. Faux rivets, well, they don’t look too bad. I think they could have gone more subtle on the gold, which isn’t gold anyway. Would be interesting to see how the 1958 Submariner looked when it was new. I doubt it was as shiny. Maybe the LED lighting at the watch dealer’s makes it stand out more than under natural lighting conditions.

    I've had the blue version of this watch for about 8 months. The only thing I don't like is the rivets on the bracelet. Other than that I don't have any complaints. It looks great on my 7 1/2 inch wrist and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to add a high quality "affordable" luxury dive watch to their collection.

  • @mpikers
    @mpikers 3 года назад +5

    I've owned both the OG version as well as the blue, I still own the blue. Overall, it's a great watch. It's a great size, it's light, it keeps excellent time and it's mostly comfortable. My only real complaint is the clasp, but not the lack of micro adjustment (although that would be nice). The lack of articulation with the links at the clasp is the issue. The links cannot hang freely from the clasp, they sort of bow out. This makes for a pretty uncomfortable fit on my wrist. It's probably not an issue for bigger wrists but on my 6.5" wrist, it's annoying.

      I had exactly the same problem on my 7.25" wrist. Due to a lack of articulation the bracelet clasp actually wears bigger than the watch head! I re-used my BB58 end links and switched the rest of the bracelet to a 5 digit Sub bracelet. The clasp is stamped, but fits much better, with more micro adjust holes.

    Took delivery of my black bay last week and love it, mainly because...I avoided the 58.
    I got the 'heritage' 41, and for me, it's much better.
    Why? 1 - why get what everyone else is buying? The 58 is everywhere l, meaning the 41mm is much rarer to find on wrist and also likely more of a sleeper in terms of resale value.
    2) I much prefer the larger size. It fits fine on my 6.5 wrist. It's a tool watch. I'd rather be able to see remaining dive time rather than admiring the smaller size while guessing.
    Honestly, I wouldn't chase around after the 58. Give the full size 41 a shot instead.

    I very recently (Nov 2021) bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue on the bracelet to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've owned for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex steel Sub in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it be when barely 40% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed.

This completely ignores the pushback of water tension when jumping from air into the water. Pressure levels will be greatly increased through the surface tension of water. So, basically, his math is not wrong but doesn't take all variables into account. The great risk for water ingress comes from falling of a surfboard or jumping off into the water at the moment, the watch touches the surface with a considerable speed, not when the watch is already submerged.

    What kind of discounts can you get on a Tudor? I’m guessing basically none. But I was able to buy a brand new SMP 300 M from an authorized dealer for $4100 on bracelet. End it destroys the black pay 58 and every conceivable way. So I think the SMP is hands-down the best watch for under $5000 no question.

    • @strapped2time
      @strapped2time 3 года назад +1

      Agreed. There’s no intelligent argument to be had against this statement with regards to quality per dollar. The Omega is far better.
      Some may like the Tudor looks better (probably with slight brand bias thanks to Rolex), but the Omega is a better watch by leaps and bounds.

      @@strapped2time I don’t know that I would agree with that . I own the smp 300 and think it has glaring deficiencies. The movement is fantastic but the bezel action is tiny and very cheap feeling , the bracelet Is clunky and heavy . My chrome dial the transfer application is very faint and looks very blurred in certain lights . I still quite like the piece but feel that it just dosent have the tactile feeling or look of true quality .

      @@Tonysoprano497 you bring up subjective differences.
      The bracelet is hated by some and loved by others. I find it more comfortable that the modern submariner bracelet. The one advantage I give to the Sub is the glide lock. Otherwise, Omegas is better, IMO (all subjective). The bezel is great, and for true divers wearing gloves, turns with ease. I feel this is made like a true tool watch for divers and less for desk divers. I’m ok with that. The Sub definitely feels better (Tudor is equal feeing for me). The dial, I’m not quite sure I understand your complaint?? I do know that legibility with that dial variant is why I didn’t go chrome (Originally found it striking). I have the blue variant and the white dial (which I find to be absolute perfection). These both have great legibility.
      The dials material and design, case design complexity, and finish are all above Tudor when you sit them next to each other.
      That doesn’t mean someone won’t love the Tudor more. That’s completely understandable.
      All watches, including Rolex, have QC issues, which is why I don’t let those cloud my view. I’ve had QC issues with all watches, mass produced or hand assembled.

      @@strapped2time perhaps but then again there is often a very thin line between the subjective and objective view . Don’t agree that it’s any more of a true divers watch than any other of its competitors so can’t agree with your view regarding the cheap bezel action . The bezel is quite awkward to turn with fingers alone would think this would be a whole lot worse with thick wet divers gloves . I personally think that it very much feels that it is at the bottom of the omega food chain . As stated despite what I believe to be deficiencies I do still rather like it .

      @@Tonysoprano497 agreed that without gloves, the bezel isn’t easy to turn. With gloves is definitely a whole other story. A breeze with gloves. The action is definitely subjective, because I find it great. Tactile and solid. Definitely don’t experience the tinny feel/sound you describe on either of mine.
      I know the bezel grip is a point of contention for some, but don’t really hear complaints about the actual action until now.

    The Omega Seamaster Diver 300 on rubber is under 5000… and trounces Tudor in finish (objective), movement (objective), design (subjective), and history (Tudor will always be tied to Rolex as the “lesser than” sibling).
    I don’t dislike Tudor. Their cool retro designs are great. But the hype they get is only due to their relation to Rolex. They sit next to Oris and nothing more. Oris is probably slightly above, since they have original designs.
    I’d go so far as to say that Seiko’s SPB151 Captain Willard is a better watch as well. The movements might not be anywhere near up to snuff with Tudor, but the case design is original and made superbly. And it only costs $1200.

      I guess it all is a matter of preference/taste. I own a BB58 and a Bond Seamaster 300 2531.80. I prefer both over the modern Seamaster 300, which I found to be too thick and aggressively flashy in its styling/finishing when I tried it on at my local Omega AD. I don’t, however, have any quibble with your observation that the Coaxial movement is superior. I do also love being able to walk into an Omega AD and try on/buy their most popular models.

      @@pauldame2784 Hey Paul. That’s where these click bait titles get it wrong… certain things are entirely subjective. The Omega is objectively a better watch, but for some, could be subjectively inferior. We all have different tastes. Sadly, for new people in the hobby, these type of videos do a disservice when claiming one watch to be anything without showing all the top options and explaining truly objective information rather than host bias and opinion. Too many channels, news outlets, etc. have gone opinion instead of sticking to the facts to let people make an informed decision on what they like.
      I put it all on mute and look at the pretty pictures. 😂 😂 😂
