I only needed to know how to get the bottom of the handle loose. I saw that you took off the cap and it revealed a screw so I was good to go. Not sure if any one else has mentioned this, but since I was trying to repair my handle I didn't want to scratch the cap so I put painters tape around it first. Using pliers I was able to remove it easily without scratching. BUT, then I noticed a small notch on the cap. So all you really needed to do was get a small screw driver to pry it off. After reading some comments I decided to watch more of the the video to see all the issues you came across. You may have been frustrated but I learned something from it. Thanks.
"If I can figure it out, you can figure it out." Gave me just enough confidence to tackle my similar replacement. So I'm back to say Thank you! Btw, extra great you left in the mishaps too, I wish more RUclips videos kept it real, lol.
Bought this one because the older version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQ had was really choppy and would disconnect from the wifi ALOT, was not catching everything and every week j had to charge it. So far the picture quality on this one is exceptional. I also bought a solar panel with it so I will see how this all turns out.
I loved watching your video. I smiled all the way through it. I had same little problems, striped screw, breaking of drill, etc. loved it! I'm a 71 female, Thanks for the giggles and smiles, Your good deed for today. God bless
Dude... so appreciate your candor, honesty, and effort. If I made a video of this same procedure, I'm sure I would have had at least as many challenges. Your video has taught me all I need to know about what needs to be done!! Thank you! HOOAH!!!
Awhhhh! So good to see I'm not the only one that runs into "complications" with removing a door lock... or with any home project for that matter! You handled it well.
We were trying to install a similar new door handle and were stuck. We watched your video and learned you can pull and rotate the inside piece to make it fit. That is what we needed. You saved the day. Thank you so much for posting this video.
Thank you so much I watched 9,000 videos trying to figure out how to get that stupid bottom inside screw off I didn't know there was acap over it, thank you !!
Man, I love this guy. He actually showed me how it wasn’t working for him and it was exactly what I was experiencing. That was exactly what I was looking for. Love it love it thank you for the reality check ha ha you nailed it and screwed it in by the way. 😂🎉
I'm an older women and thank you for your video, I used everyone of your tips in one way or another. If I had relied on the instructions that came with the kit, I would still be reading! Thank you again!
Thank you for this, our door knob is broken and I’ve been putting off changing it because I’m afraid I’ll take it off and won’t be able to figure out how to put it back on. This video helps a lot!
We went several years with the door not being able to open from the outside. All family and friends knew to come in through the garage door. I finally decided to replace it because my wife wanted to paint the door.
I have the same door knob style that was loosening and when it stopped opening, the internal mechanisms came apart but using your video as a guide, I was able to put it back together instead of buying a new door handle. Thank you for this video!!
I loved this video because it was so relatable and the fact that everything that could go wrong happened was perfect lol....and at least it encouraged me to fix my own knob that broke this morning while letting my dog out.
Thanks. Looked at a bunch of these before yours but they didn't show that bottom inside cap that needed to be removed. I was afraid to start project until I found out how to remove that. But it wouldn't come off easy by pulling so I tried twisting it counter-clockwise and it did unscrew so I think you just gave up too early on trying to unscrew it. But either way works.
1:37 I had the same problem with the door being stuck closed with the broken latch. I tried prying the spindle like you did, but it didn't work. Instead, I sawed the latch. The gap between the door and the frame was just big enough for the blade from my mini-hacksaw. Tedious but it worked so I could open the door. Posting my comment here in case others have the same issue. Great video!
Mine broke today. I just slid my drivers license in there to get it open 🤣 The round piece you pulled out with the pliers has a little opening to put a flathead in to pop it off.
I was intimidated by the darned front door handle as our thumb depression is so difficult to open. Thanks for the great video! I feel "pretty confident" that I can do this myself - headed to Lowes or Home Depot now. Thanks!
Everything about this is awesome. Informative, helpful, I totally would have made each of those mistakes (I can't tell you how many drill bits I break), and my 3 year old son is always super helpful (this is a screwdriver)....thanks so much.
Very helpful! I'm presuming from your video that you have to take off the outside handle in order to get the old latch out? At least I'm having trouble removing the latch from the inside, leaving the outside handle on. I guess it would stand to reason since the outside handle parts somehow fit into the latch within. Glad you left in the problems you ran into.
Thanks for doing this man. I hate directions and would rather walk through it visually. You saved me hours probably and several fists fulls of my already thinning hair.
im watching this after i installed it , the lock flipping totally threw me off i was like wth do i need a differ ant one lol eventually got it right altho its kinda wobbly and now i know why and yes i ran into every problem you did haha
This was laugh out loud funny at times BUT it gave me the confidence to tackle the install of a door handle assembly. Also the 1st time I have ever subscribed !! Thanks,,,,,
thank you. Do you know if you can change the knob for a level of the same brand?? because they told me in lowes that u can but I couldn't figure it out!
Hopefully, you didn't throw that away. It has a lifetime warranty. Mine broke after 2 years. I called them, sent it back, and got a new one for no cost.
Unfortunately, this looks like the warranty only applies to the original owner, but good thing to keep in mind for the next time: www.kwikset.com/customer-support/warranty-information.aspx. Doesn't hurt to ask though.

That's what I needed, lower assembly detachment
You have no idea how much I love that you show all the little hang-ups that happen along the way. That is reality!!
Love how he didn’t edit out the mishaps. Really he’s the first timers.
First timer? This happens to me every time I do a DIY project!!😊
Great video, I am glad that you did not edit out the set-backs during installation - makes the video much more relatable!

Great, I appreciate you letting me know it worked for you. I'm not sure I could make a video without mishaps, haha!
Totally agree

No problem. I’m glad it was helpful for you!
Chris we have all been there...thanks for showing us the good, bad and the ugly, it's all good!
Thank you so much I watched 9,000 videos trying to figure out how to get that stupid bottom inside screw off I didn't know there was acap over it, thank you !!
That's exactly the kind of video I needed to see

Thanks for the info 😊

Dude.... your a lifesaver. I couldn’t figure this out....watched your video and was done in no time. Thank you!
Thanks for your approach! I feel better having to handle it, no pun intended, now that I know I'm not the only one that'll struggle a bit.
I love your video Chris. Positively refreshing. This is what real life DIY looks like.
Need to replace a similar door handle. No idea what I'm doing, but this video helped a lot. I actually think I can do it now. thanks

I loved this video because it was so relatable and the fact that everything that could go wrong happened was perfect lol....and at least it encouraged me to fix my own knob that broke this morning while letting my dog out.
Thumbs up u didn’t make it seem so simple I always run in to little issues like you did in this video. U didn’t sugar coat it 👍🏽 👏🏼
"Here's a spring" lol awesome
Yeah, she was just waiting for a moment to do something on video.
I’m dying!😂
Chris McDowell that was adorable! Glad you left it in the video.

I was honestly stuck on the same issue for a while. Thanks for the video!

If those are his kids though, he is by far MUCH more capable and daring than I will ever be...✊🏻
Was having literally all the same problems, happy to see I'm not the only one struggling lol but hey at least we got it done.
Love this. Real "home improvement". I have had similar experiences.
How can he have such nice not-rough-at-all hands? Just love it when handsome men take care off their hands
Hell yeah, bro
Mine broke today. I just slid my drivers license in there to get it open 🤣 The round piece you pulled out with the pliers has a little opening to put a flathead in to pop it off.

Sweet! Glad it was helpful! Good luck. Or, hope it went well, depending on when you see this comment!
At 5:08 "pull this piece and rotate it" That saved me, dude. I was about ready to return it. Thanks for your help!
Glad it was helpful for you! Thanks for the comment!
Guys, guys, guys, I bought the same kit. It comes with instructions. Just follow the instructions. 👍
Great idea on putting the screws in first and then putting the knob.
Thank you very much for such a genuine video. These are the kind of encouraging videos that make you realize that yes you can do it 😃
Good instructions, and now I know what is going out inside the lock and fix it!
Everything about this is awesome. Informative, helpful, I totally would have made each of those mistakes (I can't tell you how many drill bits I break), and my 3 year old son is always super helpful (this is a screwdriver)....thanks so much.

I love your video. It is practical, funny, and useful.

Thanks for doing this man. I hate directions and would rather walk through it visually. You saved me hours probably and several fists fulls of my already thinning hair.
Love the issues. I probably could follow this tutorial but I'm changing the deadbolt too. Only issue, you left a painting mess.
Thanks so much! Saved me the cost of a locksmith today.
Kool man I almost turned away but you kept my attention by keeping it real! Thanks and God Bless!
