Glad I saw this video. Someone gave me an Oase filter and I've just modified it to the best of my ability and been using it accordingly. But now I want this instead. 2 things... I think you should just finesse the sponge over the heater directly and leave it be. I don't think it will melt/burn under water. Also to cut rigid plastic with that type of pipe cutter, apply a tiny amount of pressure with the blade of the pipe cutter then turn the pipe over and over. You may even apply extra pressure as you turn. Of course if it's a hard to replace piece you should still play it safe and use a diff. method. But it works wonders - I have the same type of cutter.
I will definitely be doing this to my Oase filtosmart 60 filter which is currently connected to some 12mm Fzone stainless steel lilly pipes using a 8-12mm nylon hose reducer.
Wow thanks. I was going to ditch my Eden 501 vacuum cleaner to get a filter with thermo for my nano cube. Then I found your video 😮 so basically all I need is the oase adapter and super fish 50w heater right?
Glad its still going strong. Bodes well for mine. Defo a worthwhile conversion for a Nano. Not sure I'd use it on much bigger that 20/30 litres. Your 15l is probably perfect!
Amazing timing, was going to get one of the oasé ones, didn't know about the eden gravel cleaner version, you just saved me some cash! Im also glad you addressed the filter issue with the media sitting under the intake, its what held me back from buying one, I feel silly for not realising you could just swap them around lol
Been thinking of a build with the 60, and using inline CO2 injection. For the 12mm tubing. This video has armed me with awesome information I’m am gonna need.
501 Gravel Filter, Heater and Conversion Kit arrived today, thanks for the inspiration., saved me some well earned cash! Do you have a link for the glass pipes available?
If any Americans find a US heater that is the same size as the superfish one please drop a comment! I would not order the one in the description from ebay, its made for 220 volts which means even if you got a plug adaptor it will be wonky. Im sure a lot of these manufacturers use the same or similar sized glass. May need to take the adapter to a fish store see what fits.
Hiya - the gravel cleaner model is still powered by an electric pump, it just doesn't have the filter media inside. Admittedly the Amazon listings are confusing because they use the word "syphon". But the way this is designed to be used as a gravel cleaner is by clipping the filter to the side, sucking up water with the pump, and trapping gunk in the sponge before pumping clean water back into the tank. A syphon effect simply wouldn't be possible. The frequently bought together items on the Amazon listing are the Superfish heater and the Oase Thermofit pack, so I think quite a few ppl are now trying this hack. Hope that all helps! 👍
@@sosabros.9786 I was concerned with the same thing, and the big issue is voltage, these are made for UK plugs and Uk power (220 volts). Im sure there are similar sized ones here in the US but id love to find someone whos done it.
So I noticed the US Amazon link links to the ZooMed canister filter. Is it the same as the Eden? Also do you know if any other heaters work? The US eBay link for the super fish pro ships from the UK and the 50W is out of stock right now. Thanks!
Hiya. As far as I am aware, the Eden 501 was produced under a few different brands including Turtle Clean 501 and ZooMed TC-30 501 turtle canister filter. 👍
I'm completely new to the external filter game, does anyone know what glass lilypipes would fit this best? Know he mentioned it in the video, but it went over my head 😂
Hiya. Afraid I am not sure. My hunch is no. The Superfish 50w heater is 17cm long, and the Oase 50w heater is 23cm. It slightly depends on how much of that length is taken up by the controller, but 6cm is a fairly big difference when I only had a clearance of about 3cm with the Superfish. You don't really want the heater hitting the bottom of the plastic and I don't know for sure that the Oase one would have a tight seal if it wasn't inserted all the way into the O-ring and you may have performance issues if it isn't adequatley submerged. All I can definitley say, is the Superfish heater fits and is cheaper!
I’m pretty sure it would since it’s using an Oase bracket not sure how it wouldn’t. I feel like that heater product is his dropship product or something and wants your money
@@politicalgarbagewater Ha. I wish I was in the dropshipping game. Sadly not. To be clear, I am certain the Oase heater would fit in the hole of the adapter, but I think the overall length of the heater would be too long for the filter chamber and so the lid would not clip on, because the adapter and heater are designed for use in Oases larger FiltoSmart models. This is all just speculation based on the measurments I saw in the listings, but pretty sure I'm right.
i got the oase 50w heater but it is too long. The min water line ends up slightly above the o-ring. Im tempted to try it in a bucket & see if it cracks the heater. I’ve had the water at least 1.5 inches below the line in my bigger tank many times when I’m busy and haven’t had a chance to top off & the heater never stops working
I have one of the eden 501...i like it but the noise from it drove me nuts!.... It there was an easy way to nake it quieter i would be tempted to try this hack.
Interesting. Mine is sooooo quiet atm. I presume its something to do with the impellar as theres not really much else to go wrong. Have you tried applying some vaseline to the magnetic rotor and impellar shaft? This usually does the trick on my Fluval 306.

I did the same conversion 2 years ago with the filtosmart 60 and the same heater (50watts). Still working perfectly. 15 litre nano. Easy to convert.

This is the kind of stuff I like. Do some diy for fairly low costs, to get an high end result

Is the Superfish Pro 50 shorter than the Oase 50w heater?
Anyone done this in Australia? trying to find a heater that i can get thats going to work
Nice vid. The gravel cleaner model looks like its vacuum with no pump, unless im missing something not sure how this would work as a filter?

@AquariumShed Ah awesome, thanks for the info mate I'm going to try it out 🙂 I really struggle for heater placement in our nano cubes. Great vid!
what is the superfish pro 50 watt heater equivalent in usa. Only options here are buying from UK for $40 including shipping

I was wondering the same thing, based on the photos they do look identical or at least very similar but I'm not 100% sure if it will work

@@AquariumShedyou are absolutely correct. We cant get superfish heaters here in usa, only shipped from UK with a hefty shipping fee
