If you are considering working with the extruded aluminum, you need to watch the "how to" videos by 80/20. 80/20 has some very good tutorials on working with the extrusion and the fittings. I started working with 80/20, thirty years ago. And have learned a few things. You can avoid the cost of the special corners, and most other fittings, by buying a jig which lets you drill an access hole through the center of a piece of the extrusion, and then fasten things together blind. A tap, to tap threads into the ends of the extrusions can be bought at home centers and hardware stores for less than $10. The interior holes of the 10-series, (based on 1-inch measurements), extrusions, is sized to be tapped for 1/4-20 threads. The 25-series, (which is metric), is sized to be tapped for 6-mm thread. The suppliers charge you for every tapped end. And if you have a good miter saw you can cut the extrusion with a fine-toothed carbide tipped blade. The suppliers charge you for every cut. Tip, if you buy lengths of uncut extrusion, buy it 8-ft or less in length. The shipping costs essentially double for packages longer than 8-ft.
Very nicely done John. Excellent quality and finish, I am sure your Misses is pleased with the mod for her 4R.. The flow and presentation was really good.
This is one of the best drawer build videos I've seen. Thanks for sharing all the details. I'm thinking i'm going to have to build one. I'm also guessing a good amount of weight was saved using the aluminum framing vs solid wood. Thanks again.
Great job although I would have just used an L bracket into the channels below the top to attach the top from underneath so the screws are hidden and no holes drilled into that beautiful top
Thoughts on how to make it water proof? I’m building something similar on top of a trailer tongue storage rack to have a slide out fridge + two burner stove top.
Really great build and video! Thanks. I'm guessing that you went with those external side plates to mount the extrusions that the sliders attach to for added weight bearing? If I wanted an internal connector option, would they not hold the weight of a drawer, you're guessing?
I’ve done these a few different ways just trying to find the best method. If you check out my latest drawer built in my 80 series I used a corner connector on the “inside” that I believe worked out way better!
First off - great video and thank you so much for sharing so much detail! Secondly - I'm curious why you didn't build the drawer itself out of extruded aluminum as well? (I'm a newb with EA, so please bear with me).
Even though it’s aluminum the extrusion is actually decently heavy once it’s all assembled! Also the extrusion takes up more space than 1/2” ply wood does. Also much cheaper to use wood for the drawers!
Hi there just started watching your videos and find this product very interesting looking to do something in my ford transit my question to you is once the plywood is placed on top would it be strong enough to step on it
Do you have the dimensions for the build? I would like to build a two drawer system with a pull out table as you except have it come completely out and unfold to a regular table as the Drifta drawers have. Great job on this and thanks for posting. One of the better ones I’ve seen.
We haven’t noticed any rattling! These have a rubber end piece they slide onto in the closed position that should prevent something like that for the most part 👍🏼 but thank you for watching!
The idea is, the table is big enough to where if you did need something else out of the drawer you have enough space to partially open it! But yes if the table was cluttered with too many things I could see that being an issue forsure 👍🏼
Amazing build, looking to build a drawer/sleeper in mine based off this design. Although I was wondering with this build do the rear seats still recline? Or at least recline some positions
Wow, what a great find. I wanted drawers for very long time and always hesitated to buy due to its high price. Without finding this video I would have never thought about this was possible. I have never done any wood work and that kind of taunted me to build wooden drawer but this... seems like I could definitely manage it. I just planned to build one based on your plan and did little tweaking for my use with double drawer and estimated price came out around $650 (probably will end up higher), but still way cheaper than the cheapest drawer options out there. Only question I have is the weight. Do you have estimated weight of the built? Thank you again for your time and effort making these videos. Subscribed!
The build is very inspiring and definitely love the Lego like build of the frame and can’t wait to start on my own. What thickness of aluminum did you use for the table?
Such a great job man. I admire youre work and attention to detail. You keep this up and you ought to patent your work and look into starting your own aftermarket shop (if you have the desire to do so). I love camping and wheeling. Haven't been able to do it in a long while since having little ones, but I am chomping at the bit to get out! Great job with the builds! Looking forward to seeing more 👍
Thank you Casey! My Family & I actually run an auto repair shop and have been for a long time. We service cars & light trucks and have considered bringing in some work from the off-road industry. Maybe in due time, but currently have a lot of work to keep up with as is. I’m glad you like the videos man I hope you can get out and enjoy the woods soon! It’s where we are supposed to be 👍🏼
And you guys do great work! I live right up the road from your shop. Black Jeep jk and white camry. I may even be stopping by in a few weeks. 4x4 shops are definitely in short supply around the area. Especially ones that do quality work at a reasonable price. Your shop is hands down the most honest and high quality shop I have EVER experienced and had the pleasure to do business with. I will be moving to Madison in the coming months, but will definitely still use you guys when I can. Keep up the great work on all fronts! The honesty and quality are what have kept me coming back. You and your old man are great people. Love the channel too. Great job again!💪
Wow, didn’t realize you were local! Appreciate it man, glad we can help out! Very thankful for customers like yourself!! Thanks for watching the channel and for the support, it means a lot!
It holds up pretty well! The one that’s been in my truck has seen some abuse. You can definitely see where it is “lighter” in spots from things like my fridge rubbing on it. It holds up well to stuff like that but it can be gouged with sharp edges
This is great!! Perfect kickstart to the project I want to do. For the gap between the 2x1 and the tray for the sliding rails, did you do .5" each side(so 1" total)? I swear from the drawing you had it was only a .5 gap total (.25 each side).
Thanks! Got all materials in and put the frame together. Quick question, what thickness aluminum did you use for the slide out surface, 0.125? I'm debating Aluminum or ACM, with the edge to just Aluminum as not sure how ACM will do with stove heat/pots etc. Side note, TNUTZ was great to work with. Too bad you can't do affiliate links like with Amazon for a little kick back for you.
Awesome man! I use .100 aluminum! Could definitely use another material but like you said with heat it may not last. Also I know, I wish I could get an affiliate link 😂
Do you happen to know the total weight when completed? I was about to build a drawer and slide out of plywood for my 4Runner but this has me considering changing that.
Are the slides you used for both the drawer and table the same? I'm guessing the same. One has lock one does not? Also, what is the length of those turn buckles?
They are linked in description but yes I believe same slides just one with lock and one without. I don’t remember the exact length. Best to measure and see which length works best once your set is done 👍🏼
I have not added it up just yet but if I had to guess probably around $600. I was building two different drawer systems at the same time so ordering parts at the same time made that hard to distinguish
Great builds mate, just watched X4 of your vids inc. the camper build, but I have to say how much I noticed you are bending all the time, & working on the floor etc...Wow,... you had better start looking after you back now bud, because believe me, you WILL really suffer bad back pain later on in life, just some old man advice.
Thanks for the advice man! Yeah I’m not looking forward to those days.. haha. I do keep a regular workout routine/stretch, eat healthier then most. Hopefully me taking care of my body in those ways helps me as well.
Thanks for watching guys! Please don’t forget to give it a like and subscribe if you aren’t already!

This was exactly the type of build video I've been searching for. Thanks for documenting the process and going into detail!
Of course!! Thanks for watching
Ive watched this video like 6 times now. Such a great indepth tutorial. Thank u so much for all this info. Its exactly what i was looking for!!
So glad it was helpful Jason!!
Ive been looking for a video that implemented heavy draws with 8020 for a while! this is exactly what I was looking for to create my design! thx!
Great Info! I need a similar build for mu work minivan and this is an exceptional roadmap. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!!
slideout table is nice!
Very nicely done
Nicely done 👍👍
freaking awesome this is the solution i was needing, thanks a ton for sharing
Goodluck with your build!
Awesome build Bro!!!🔥🔥🔥I have a GX470 i just may look into this system. Tnx
Enjoyed watching this video…🤙
Exactly this build, just want two drawer system haha. Loved the raptor liner.
Curious do you have the estimated price on this build?
I believe around $600!
WOW , Gorgeous build .
Thank you!
Great, great video..!! I will try and do this project...
Thank you! Goodluck!
Very nicely done John. Excellent quality and finish, I am sure your Misses is pleased with the mod for her 4R.. The flow and presentation was really good.
Glad to hear you liked it Mike! She loves it. She’s looking forward to getting it out on some camping trips here real soon! Videos to come 👍🏼
Hey friend, could I make a expanding or sliding bench with more seating if i use these drawer liner slides?
This is one of the best drawer build videos I've seen. Thanks for sharing all the details. I'm thinking i'm going to have to build one. I'm also guessing a good amount of weight was saved using the aluminum framing vs solid wood. Thanks again.
Awesome I’m glad it was helpful!
nice a simple build! Thanks.
Been working well so far!
Great job although I would have just used an L bracket into the channels below the top to attach the top from underneath so the screws are hidden and no holes drilled into that beautiful top
I really like your work and planning.
Thanks Dave!
Do you have a link for that’s latch style ?
Great build!
Thanks!
Great video! What software are you using on your iPad to lay everything out? Looks useful!
Thoughts on how to make it water proof? I’m building something similar on top of a trailer tongue storage rack to have a slide out fridge + two burner stove top.
I’ve thought about this myself but never had time to fully come up with a plan to make that happen.
Great build
Thanks Robert!

I need one made for my 4Runner. 😁
What is the program you are using to draw up your plans?
Hi there just started watching your videos and find this product very interesting looking to do something in my ford transit my question to you is once the plywood is placed on top would it be strong enough to step on it
Yes it is! An extrusion cross support helps a lot
Do you have the dimensions for the build? I would like to build a two drawer system with a pull out table as you except have it come completely out and unfold to a regular table as the Drifta drawers have. Great job on this and thanks for posting. One of the better ones I’ve seen.
Thanks Harry! I don’t have the dimensions saved but I should mention them in the video!
What bit and size did you use to bevel the edges?
my only gripe is the ball bearings on the amazon drawer slide rattle. Awsome build btw!
We haven’t noticed any rattling! These have a rubber end piece they slide onto in the closed position that should prevent something like that for the most part 👍🏼 but thank you for watching!
How much does it weigh?
did you use 2020 extrusion?
Looks pretty simple and usable what happens if you want something out of the draw when you're using the table, all the best to you all
The idea is, the table is big enough to where if you did need something else out of the drawer you have enough space to partially open it! But yes if the table was cluttered with too many things I could see that being an issue forsure 👍🏼
What kind of metal for the tray?
I would have used that track on the aluminum to insert my wood panels into
Amazing build, looking to build a drawer/sleeper in mine based off this design. Although I was wondering with this build do the rear seats still recline? Or at least recline some positions
They do not! I honestly didn’t think about that until after it was built. But in the end we don’t have people riding back there often haha
Wow, what a great find. I wanted drawers for very long time and always hesitated to buy due to its high price. Without finding this video I would have never thought about this was possible. So glad the video could help you! I do not have an estimate on weight but it is somewhere under 100lbs for sure!
The build is very inspiring and definitely love the Lego like build of the frame and can’t wait to start on my own. What thickness of aluminum did you use for the table?
Awesome to hear! The aluminum is .100” thick

Looks great! 👌🏼 How does the raptor hold up going straight onto wood with no primer?
It holds up pretty well! The one that’s been in my truck has seen some abuse. You can definitely see where it is “lighter” in spots from things like my fridge rubbing on it. It holds up well to stuff like that but it can be gouged with sharp edges
Do you happen to have build plans for this?
Unfortunately I do not!
Looks great - I will probably take the same approach w my FJ80. What IPad software were you using?
App is called “draft paper”
This is great!! Perfect kickstart to the project I want to do. For the gap between the 2x1 and the tray for the sliding rails, did you do .5" each side(so 1" total)? I swear from the drawing you had it was only a .5 gap total (.25 each side).
Thank you sir! & Yes .5” on each side! 1” total
@@Adv4x4 Thank you! I'm doing a similar build but very low profile. Mostly based around your slide out tray. Parts ordered, thanks for sharing 🙏.

@@Adv4x4 cheers thanks! Parts get here Monday so excited to build this!
One last question. Do you know the dimensions on the wood box?
Not off the top of my head! It’s been awhile since I have built this with many other projects after haha
Did you have to thread the 80/20?
You can choose to have them pre tapped on the website
Bro,what size the extrusion aluminum?
10 series! Or 1”
@@Adv4x4 tnxz bro..

Stainless steel and aluminum do not go together.
You overbuilt the frame and under built the drawer!
