Had the pleasure of building that original vert ramp at Bob's. Plans were scribbled on bar room napkins, lots of cussing & smoking. Turned out to be one of the greatest half pipes ever for one of the greatest skaters ever. Now, it is cemented in stone, as is the memory of the good times building it with friends. Dave Ellis was the mastermind of the project ,we lost Dave over a year ago to leukemia. For me, that ramp is sort of a tombstone for Dave ! Thank you Grindline, for preserving a great time in everyone who was involved lives. Hello Bob, if you read this ? It's Mike Kruse from Florida. DAVE ELLIS, REST IN PEACE, MY FRIEND !
I remember seeing him in the yellow cow anti-hero video which was one of the most mind opening skate video I ever owned, ever since then he had been mythical in my eyes along with Cardiel amd Stranger and Roy
@@lucasferreira-jornadadaflu6914 - yeah bro. The Dreamland part put the nail in the coffin. Being a skater for almost 30 years this was and still is the most out of this world experience when it comes to skate videos. Still can't wrap my head around it. Too much for me to handle...
Agreed Pat but wrong analogy- icing on the cake is more apt for Dreamland. Then check both his and Braille's vids for mega board to board transfers- another layer of sponge with sprinkles. Incomparable and untouchable
A couple of years ago my girlfriend and I stopped at a square here in Rio de Janeiro, for an ice cream. We went to check out the bowl and to my surprise Bob was there, practicing alone. He did things in that bowl that in twenty five years of going there I've never seen anyone do! It was amazing for an hour it was just the two of us watching the guy flying and cutting every bit of that concrete structure...
@Solid Rock Yes indeed. It's not too dissimilar to a potent Amazonian hallucinogen. Over the space of a few minutes you feel inspired, inadequate, blissful, teary, zen like and bewildered, with the underlying threat that your bowels might vacate
Thanks mate. I too welled up at the beauty of Dreamland the first time I saw it, it's so aptly named. My first search on my first visit to RUclips was Bob's Grand Canyon rail to BASE jump
1997 SOTY is a legend. I´m brazilian and I remember when he exploded in the international contests and I´ve just found his e-mail and wrote him. I was around 15 yo. And for my surprise he answered. That was a real inspiration back than. Thanks Robert Dean Silva Burnquist for all that you bring to the brazilian skateboard!
WE NEED MORE BOB CONTENT. Seeing this guy skate is just surreal. I cant explain, hes just unique. It seems hes always having fun. And a great human being too. More Bob please.
Coolest thing about bob is not only is he just mental and doing some of the most tech tricks out there, he also does stuff I don't feel like anyone else would think to try. Often they can come off as simplistic or something but the dude is just DIALED... 2:12 front one with no grab is already one of the most terrifying things I could think of on vert, let alone doing it SWITCH over a channel. Pure fuckin finesse!
Grew up seeing him shred that ramp in things like tony hawk pro skater and menikmati, its good to see its not only still around, but is full concrete now :)
Can’t think of a better Cold Call. I understand and respect that Bob is done with being in the spotlight, but he’s one of those legends I wish I could see more of. His ‘In Transition’ part where he never grabbed his board a single time was a phenomenal last performance in professional skateboarding.
Yep- The King, The Prince and The Court Jester; The Head of State, The President and The Prime Minister; The Father, The Son and The Holy GOAT. Call it what you want, there will never be another three like Tony, Danny and Bob
I was at radlands in the UK...probably 93..bob was there and fresh out of Brazil...dude was insane and nobody knew who he was...it was so obvious he was destined for big things.
i was just talking to some younger guys about how i kind of met him before he went pro here in the us. i had just moved to houston tx and i was at the skatepark that was there back then. there was a lot of mini ramps at the front and a big vert ramp in the back that nobody ever went on. he went back there and lit that thing up and we were all like "who is this guy" now look at him.

@biggabenne yea there were a lot of beast vert dudes that won on xgames but that didn't make me hyped I can't even remember half them
Truly is, he still holds the record at x games for most gold medals but I think nyjah houston is almost tied with him

I totally agree.

In my generation when everyone was into hawk, I was into Bob Burnquist .. #LEGEND
Bob is so light on his feet. Like he is floating. Impeccable style.
Bob is one of my all time favorites. Him battling against Tony Hawk in every contest was good times as a kid.
With Bucky Lasek right withem every year before Shaun White showed up with that 1080 from heaven. Good times indeed
Cold Call series gotta be my new favorites Thrasher videos

One of my best moments at a live event was seeing Bob win Very Gold at the Philly X games on his last run. That Blunt kickflip had that arena Buzzing
I remember watching it on tv (I'm from Peru) and deciding to start skating after that crazy run from Bob 🤯
Goosebumps bro
still go back and watch it from time to time. Such an amazing run
I was at the 2000 xgames in SF but we couldnt get seats to see the vert ramp 😭😭😭

The fact that he's doing all this no helmet, just knee pads shows he's the master of bailing, which is a massive flex of a different kind
