Common sense and sound practical judgment concerning tweaking settings goes a long way to properly configure your computers. Unfortunately, we're all looking for that magic bullet to cut corners and do all the work for us without doing the research and understanding it takes to get those wondrous results. Thank you Brian for these videos and keep up the good work.

I agree, but I also disagree.
Some processes need to be disabled because there may be a good chance that the person will not use certain resources.
It's great to have the knowledge and power to manage everything without restriction, but to this day I see a lot of stupid stuff enabled in the background. For this and other reasons people prefer Linux.
I use and like windows a lot, but it's unbelievable how Microsoft wastes a machine's memory.

Thanks for showing us this, it made a big difference for me. I play mostly VR games, such ETS 2, ATS, Fallout VR, HL: Alyx etc. I was having frame rate problems with ETS 2 but mostly with ATS. ETS 2 I got 90 fps inbetween cities and 45 fps in most cities, ATS was worse 75 fps outside cities and 35 fps inside cities. Now I temporarly stop about 5 services, and I get in ETS 2 90fps and 90 around most cities, ATS again 90fps and 90fps in most cities. So it does make a big difference. It probably depends on the services you remove to how much power you recover. In fact, so good was the difference in ETS 2 that I was able to put the settings up to High/Ultra on everything except Anti-aliasing. I'm still adding to the super sampling, currently at 200% for ETS2 and 132% for ATS.

Respect for all the hard work you've been doing for our benefit. I'd suggest also disabling services that start with the word REMOTE, not just REMOTE REGISTRY (except REMOTE PROCEDURE CALL, if you use the internet service). Some people may need them for work or trouble shooting purposes remotely, but for the majority, for privacy purposes, it's essential to disable them.

I like to turn it off at the wall when I'm not using it, but no, I have to wait for this stupid update to finnish. Then and only then it shut's it down and I can turn it off at the wall.

Auto forces the service to start with BOOT. Extending BOOT times
Delayed Start starts shortly after BOOT. Sometimes causing the input to slow down or stop, after start up.
Manual start when the service is called. Delaying the start if the service, the first time.

It is self explanatory to a degree, but some service descriptions arent very informative and others are unintentionally misleading. Others require knowing a lot about the way computers and hardware/software components do or don't do, rely on, require, etc. In other words, there can be some nuance and research involved for the common user.

batcmd explanations of what the services do is just a bunch of gobbledygook to actual humans. Isn't there a web site that describes this stuff for actual normal humans ( like blackviper used to do? )? The only way I usually know to disable something is when Brian/Britec09 tells me to AND I know the advice applies ( or does not ) to me ( like xbox stuff for instance ). I'm not a noob or someone incapable of understanding this stuff. I'd hate to think what a roadblock services must be to a person who just uses their compute as a tool.

With Windows 7, I could use file explorer's search to find a couple dozen documents matching two or three keywords. But Windows 10, searches inside the documents and returns 30,000 or 40,000 files. Totally useless! How do I get Windows 10's File Explorer to search by filename only?

    Hello, Brian;
"Thank You!" for all you do.
Do you have an "UnDo" (Reversing) script?
If I'm going to download a script I want to be able to download an Undo / reversing script too.
That way, "IF" I have a problem I can reverse the disabling script till I can sort it out.
Right now I'm running MX linux on my desktop & my new-to-me used ThinkPad T430.
I have Win10 on my laptop's Seagate Momentus Thin 32GB HDD & on a SSD in my desktop.
I want to copy the HDD to another SSD for my T430 but I've been having issues w/ it.
ATM I'm running MX on a Live-USB w/ persistence but I expect to install it to a SSD soon.
I'm waiting on a new battery as the old one is pretty weak.
BTW I clicked the 'Like' button, & watched till the end-hopefully helpful.
    Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
    P.S.
Any tips on how to check to see if I need a particular service?
Thank you in advance fro you kind assistance.

hey, you can find & replace every "disabled" with "auto" in this script file
absolutely every service in that list is safe to disable
