  • NEW GOLF CLUB EXPERT explains which irons YOU should use! When buying new golf clubs there are so many area in the market that are a minefield... should you buy the most forgiving gol clubs? the most forgiving irons are generally not the same for everyone... just like the best golf clubs aren't the same for everyone, the best irons for one golfer are certainly not the same for another golfer, maybe you need powerful golf clubs that go a long way, other golfers may need blade golf clubs to work the ball and shape shots... others might need budget golf clubs to match what they want to spend... in this video I take a look around Takomo HQ in Finland to speak to the guys and see which of their golf clubs would potentially be best for you... let's do it... and let's do it now!

Loved this video! Thank you! I loved the 201s after seeing you hit them. Great irons! I have to say that the 101T looks really awesome though and from the info that Takomo showed on their new video, its going to be a hit I think as it ticks like every box: player's size head, great lines, normal lofts, reduced offset and still with the hollow body for some forgiveness. Looks like a winner! The 301s look great, but I have a feeling that 101T is going be a true hit with a lot of golfers. Cheers!

For UK and North American golfers Haywood Golf offer very similar irons!
TBH I think a lot of these DTC brand get the same mold for the hollow body irons and slap their logo on them.
Haywood, Caley, Sub 70, and the Tokomo 101's all have identical hollow body irons.
But luckily the more mid-handicap and player's irons have more variety and unique designs.
Great quality brands and glad to see them starting to get more attention, thouroughly deserved.

You may have made a good choice. I bought the 101's sight unseen based on this channel recommendation and assumed the fitting would work. Wrong. I think the value of getting fit for irons carries more premium than you think. Another thing is feel - you better test out the feel of the clubs you are going to buy with the right shaft in them - otherwise you are screwed. The confidence you have from knowing you can rely on your iron shot in a clutch situation can make the difference between going for the long iron in your bag on a bad lie versus taking the layup route.

  • @TeddyCavachon

The fact the club head attaches to the heel, not the middle of clubs causes momentum to twist the club open and closed - to the extent the golfer’s grip on the handle let it - which can be easily felt by simply swinging a club with one hand with the toe and face oriented up, down or sideways. If you do that same one handed swing drill with club heads of different designs - classic blades vs. perimeter weight ‘game improvement’ you will discover that the more mass the club head has in the toe relative to the heel the more the club will try to twist in the hand when swung.
That leads to the question of what is the ideal distribution of mass in a club head? Karsten Solheim asked himself that question in the late 1950s after taking up golf in his 30s using an old school Bullseye putter, a putter style which is so toe heavy that if balanced on a finger it hangs toe down. All that mass in the toe causes that style putter to try to twist face open like a swinging gate in the backswing and closed in the downswing. The face starts square to the SWING ARC but then deviates from it due to the excessive toe bias.
Solheim, who was a GE Engineer, understood the solution was to redistribute the mass on the club head heel-to-toe until went he swing it back on HIS natural swing arc and speed the balance of the mass in the club automatically stayed square not to the target but to that natural balanced swing arc. Bringing face back square to ball consistently became much easier because of that because the uncontrollable action of the club was no longer a variable!
If you balance a PING Anser style putter on a finger it will hang with face at about a 45° angle /. The same is true for his first PING EYE irons because it turns out that is the distribution of mass which is ideal for keeping the face automatically aligned to the natural rotary swing arc the golfer’s biomechanics.
I started in golf in 1983 with a set of Browning Premiere irons which today would be considered mid-handicapper “players” irons because they were blade style but heel biased. In 2010 I bought a set of custom fit Cobra S9s which were marketed as “game improvement” and found they did make shots more accurate because their club head mass distribution was similar to the PING EYE and for that reason “self-steering”. But compared to my old set they had les “feel” when I opened or closed the face and stance intentionally to hit a controlled fade or draw.
When a golfer gets to the point of having a very consistent balanced swing which is the prerequisite for shaping shots predictably they will be able to feel the difference between a MB blade, CB blade and High-MOI “ game improvement club from the feel of how momentum acting on the different distribution of mass in the toe tries to twist the shaft in the hands. That “feel” factor is what allows the most elite ball strikers like Tiger, Phil and Bubba Watson to have situational awareness of face angle during all parts of the swing and the uncanny ability to adjust it mid-swing to either correct a less than perfect swing or put spin on a golf ball to the produce extreme shot shapes they are famous for.
