    Yours is the ND Metropolis palette review I've been waiting for!

  • @LesDesign
    @LesDesign 5 лет назад +77

    This palette is very Art Deco. If you look up posters from that period, you will see this color scheme. There’s actually a film called metropolis, the poster for that movie is gold, bronze and black so she was dead on with the color story. Art Deco is about architecture and structure, I think it would be cool to use the palette in a way that reflects that. But I’m a dorky graphic designer having a moment. 🤣

    • @aliciaarcher
      @aliciaarcher  5 лет назад +15

      Ooooooooooo I would love to see you make that happen!!! Yes, when I pulled up the images I was like, YEP! This is dead on. I saw Metropolis in high school 🤣 I didn’t understand it then, but now I do. And there’s another Metropolis poster where there’s turquoise and gold.

    I’m actually surprised how lovely the palette looks swatched vs how it looks in the promo pictures. It looks far more gorgeous in natural light, and I feel the orange / warm shades don’t feel as over saturated?
    Thank you for your review! I know it can come across as you splitting hairs, but honestly I really like this as a beginner palette. Plus I’m glad she’s mirroring the price point and sizing of the Sunrise palette, I feel it’s a great step to expand her brand.

    • @aliciaarcher
      @aliciaarcher  5 лет назад +6

      Yes! It’s crazy how different makeup can look under studio lights versus natural light. And. I agree it looks pow wow in person. It’s great that she’s continuing to take on this pan sized because it really is more cost friendly to a wider scope of consumers.

    Alicia, please do not be sorry for anything in this video, your review is great !!! I have not yet reached the demo part, but I wanted to give you feedback right away: you have a gift with seeing and describing colors, all I hear I totally agree with, and also...funny enough, before watching your video, I was like... maybe not this palette, but every single one of your swatches yields a beau-ti-ful color, I could literally stare at each swatch for 5 minutes !!! Ok, back to the video now... :-)

I tried it for the first time this morning before work and it was such a mess I had to wash my face off - I’ve never had to do that before, that’s how bad it was. So I spent all day pissed off that I spent $129 for something I couldn’t use properly. But your looks and tutorials made it easy and now I’m going to keep it instead of returning it. Thanks! :)

    ok, girl, i had to tell you. I have officially hit saturation. I have no hankering for Mothership 6 and when I heard Mel say ABH Master Palette by Mario was a low key dupe, I was like meh, then I've got no need to invest in 6. As for this beauty, I can see a newcomer to ND maybe picking this up but I own every single one of these shades more or less in other palettes, except for that green matte, but I sure own that green matte somewhere else. Btw, the right side of Metropolis is almost just Aeris & Joya. It's also annoying to me that the two dark blues are so close in tone, even Michele unwilling had to point that out & you *know* she loves her Natasha! If you own Sunrise, Sunset, Brown-Green 28 pan, Gold, Lila, Lila mini, 3 blue/purple 5 pans, Aeris/Joya, well, can't really justify it. Your review is the very best I've seen, thank you so much for going into the depth you did here and the analysis from every angle. This is the perfect object lesson to me that I have to fight off the tendency to keep buying shades I already own because I'm drawn to the same color story. This is a great palette for customers who want to try her and get a varied sampling of her shadows. Gurl, ND and PML should definitely send you PR, you do the best reviews on their stuff!

      Dana Wajngurt I am new to buying her so for me it’s a great way to get some of her pallets I do not own all in one to try plus it’s nice that’s it is a celebration of all her pallets it’s nice for the new people into her because 230 for a pallet that has colors that do not look as good on me

      @@rachelcrawford1977 amen to that (re the 230). This is a beautiful palette and should be perfect for someone new to her brand. Gold palette is stunning too but this one has more tones to choose from hence more versatility. Hope you love it!

    Thank you so much for the detailed review on this palette as well as the different eyeshadow looks. Dirty Olive..😂 is a gorgeous shade. At first I thought I didn't need this one just because I already have the Gold palette but, I see that the colors are different enough that I could still get it. Now I gotta really check my budget and see if I can swing it. You're awesome❣and you content is always informative, helpful and funny. Have a great night! 😀💞

    So I'm a woc, and all of her other palettes include multiple shades with grey or cool undertones, with the exception of sunset and sunrise and those are the 2 I own, but I really wanted gold for that blue shade and biba, but those cool and grey shades had me put the breaks on things esp for a 15 pan palette. Its unreasonable to buy those palettes for 129 and only like 10 shades. The metropolis pallete includes all of the shades I wanted but with warmer undertones and it speaks to me on soooooo many levels. It's the palette I've been patiently waiting for! .... so much so, that I feel like I may need a backup since its limited edition. 🙈🏃🏽‍♀️
    And the fact that the shades are placed in look groups, I'm seriously in love! 😁🥰😍

      I agree! 👌🏽💕 That’s why I didn’t include Gold in my top ND picks (much to the surprise of many) because I felt they did have a beige gray tone to them. Even on me! And that’s why I mentioned that although visually the Metropolis shades might look similar to shades already in her 15 pan palettes, the undertones I feel make them more wearable for more skin tones ✨🙌🏽

      Hey shivondevi, thought I'd share. so am I but the neutral undertone I have seem to be ok with ND's other grey or cooler toned shadows. I'm less golden than Alicia so maybe these look ok on my tone, but wanted to suggest going into a Sephora & having an artist put some on you so you can see from a palette you may want but are holding off on worrying about the grey/cools. I was pleasantly surprised how some of the shades I thought were too grey but came out stunning on my particular lid. Some freaky Natasha magic looking different on the eye, versus finger swatch maybe?

    • @aliciaarcher
      @aliciaarcher  5 лет назад +1

      Dana Wajngurt Dana!!! Hey love! Thank you for sharing, because it’s possible because of my undertone that they’re showing up more gray on. And I agree it’s always worth trying in person!

    • @shivondevi
      @shivondevi 5 лет назад

      Hi @@Dana-712FifthAve , thanks for sharing. The colors are indeed beautiful, but I have super yellow golden olive undertones (mac nc43 but more yellow, or nars Syracuse/Tahoe). I'm south East Asian so any hint of grey makes me look like a zombie 🤣🤣 Haha. Definitely don't want to pay $129 to look like a zombie. It's surprising how much undertones/color theory make a difference.
      I did swatch biba in the store... that's why I stopped myself from buying it. The browns even looks neutral/grayish on me... not to mention those greys.

    I don’t have any of the large ND pallets but OMG!! Must have. I appreciate when the shadows don’t pack a huge punch on first pass. IMO you can do more subdued looks but they still build without going patchy.

    In case no one has thanked you today for all the swatch comparisons THANK YOU. With the two “teal” shades people are saying are so similar, if you really look at the swatches on her site or Sephora, it seems that one has golden micro glitters and the other has silver micro glitters. It’s nice because if your look is more cool toned you can go with the silvery one and if your look is warmer you can use the more golden one. If you’re into color, I think it’s such a creative and inspiring palette. It’s growing on me the more looks I see with it, but I think I’m going to get the mini gold. I’m really intrigued with that color story and that price!

    The arrangement is great. Natasha has been doing the arrangement of quads for a while now, especially the star palette. I have this palette and love it. My friends asked me if they needed it and I said maybe because it’s a useable collectors palette, although I love it I can get the same look or close with other palette. However, it’s Natasha and I must have it lol. So far I love the textures. If she made the pan size larger I would be tempted to pay the $238 price tag like the large blue brown.
