@@wonhoscake1214 I've seen the process mentioned by Willy Jimmy done on pork buns, mochis, and other food with filling. What I'm curious about is how they put cooked yolks inside the filling
In China its very common to make these by hand all the time with our families. I've tried both before and machine made ones will never taste as good as handmade ones. The quality just isnt there Of course in western countries it just easier to buy the mass produced ones. Handmade mooncakes are expensive and harder to find. But generally, mooncakes aren't exactly super cheap.
I love the lotus filling with a salted egg yolk center. The baked ones are my favourite. The snowskin type goes well with Durian and Jackfruit. It's sold everywhere here especially on the season. I could even buy it at my local Starbucks. They are so delicious. 😋
Vida Allen Mooncakes are a delicious treat, but do refrain from eating them too much. They are very, very high in calories and fat because a lot of oil is used to make the filling and to knead the dough. I am from Hong Kong myself, but my family and I only eat around one to two mooncakes during Mid-Autumn festival because it is just way too unhealthy.
Well you should only eat 1/4 of the moon cake per day cuz if you eat the whole moon cake at once, it can make you REALLY dizzy. I ate a whole moon cake once and I fell asleep pretty soon after. It's caused by one of the ingredients... And I can confirm since I'm half chinese, half filipino... LOL😂
@@joeysoon9609 If you find them horrible, maybe it wasn't to your taste. There is different types of moon cakes, and if you don't think their flavor suit you, just say it wasn't your type of food you'd eat. You may not like it, and i respect your personal taste, but I don't see a point to tell other people it's horrible. Snowskin moon cakes are the best, original ones are great too.
I remember a time when my mom and aunt got together to hand make moon cakes. They burnt a batch and when my older cousin asked what the burnt moon cake was my aunt said it was a chocolate moon cake. He ate it.
I still vividly remember my Dad bringing a Moon Cake home from PNC Bank. They handed them out one year like 10-12 years ago for the Mid Autumn Festival. 😄
Love the moon cakes only once a year very beautiful healthy fresh cake love the fillings is beautiful fruits and sweet or savory love them all thank you
0:08 Asia is not a monolith and is made up of many countries and traditions. To help people understand not to generalize might be helpful to state specifically where Mooncakes are a tradition. Thanks for the video, it was interesting to watch the process.
Maxim makes the best mooncakes. Maxim’ double egg yolks is the classic. I literally have had hundred of mooncakes since I was 8. I ate like 20 each year. So trust me on this. Order it online. It is probably on amazon.
This is arguably one of my top favorite cakes, or sweets, even as a kid growing up in the Philippines, up to this day. Thank goodness, Asian food can be found all over the world lol.
I remember eating mooncakes during the mid autumn festival with my family. I hate the ones with the yolks in it, yuck. Red bean paste ones are the best.
Most of my Chinese friends hate moon cakes. I'm not fond of them, but I'll eat one if I have to. It's honestly not the most delicious dessert, it's an acquired taste. I prefer other Asian desserts like mochi, mango pudding with evaporated milk, Thai sweet sticky rice with mango, Vietnamese rice cakes (bánh bò), silky tofu pudding with ginger syrup, sago and taro coconut sweet soup, bubble milk (boba) tea, che thai drink, and green tea ice cream!
"They're a traditional Asian dessert" Why not just say Chinese? Pretty sure Mooncakes and Mid Autumn festival aren't celebrated in the likes of Pakistan, India, Tajikstan etc. I really hate it when people proactively try to be politically correct so as not to offend. Sure, Malaysia and a couple of other places in South East Asia celebrate Mid Autumn festival, but the festival and it's roots are ultimately Chinese in origin and couldn't be more symbolic to China. Give China the respect or recognising that it's their holiday.
Korean Planet just order them online. I recommend double egg yolks ones from maxim (a Hong Kong pastry brand). They make the best mooncakes. Although I don’t know if they sell any ice cream mooncakes outside China.

I think it was inserted when it was rolling into balls. But the video didn’t show
