  • The new Midland ER10VP AM FM NOAA Weather Alert Emergency Portable Radio may well be the best preparedness radio to date. The FM, and NOAA Weather Band Reception is well Above Average. It has a Slim Profile allowing it to be packed away in a Shelter in Place or Bug Out Bag. The Radio also uses common AA batteries which are also included :)

    Features I like about the new ER10:
    Low Cost.
    Digital Display.
    Standard AA Operation.
    Listen to FM or AM while Weather Alert Mode is Active.
    Flashlight with Three Modes.
    FM Reception is well Above Average.
    Twelve or Twenty-Four Hour Clock.
    NOAA Reception is Awesome.
    Batteries Included.
    Features that could be Added or Improved on:
    AM Reception, Good for Locals Only atm.
    Fix Volume, Too Loud at the Lowest Setting for Normal Use.
    Improve Speaker Audio.
    Overall, this radio gets a "Maybe" recommendation from me. It works fantastic as a backup radio that will mainly see use only in an Emergency.

    Nice little emergency radio !
    I have some emergency radios here, and one which stoods a little bit out is the hanrongda hrd-900. It receives really well in am/fm/sw, has memories, solar panel and crank, flash light and is very small. Amazing little radio. Only negative side is the sound, quite thin.

    Will it automatically go to weather alert for severe weather? And do the alerts come up for things like snowstorms, thunderstorms etc?

    I see the version of this with the solar panel and hand crank at Wal-Mart. Thinking about getting it. Where I live a weather radio is a must especially in tornado alley. I try to get one with S.A.M.E. technology which I don't think these have.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  2 года назад +2

      No, you need to go with a desktop midland for S.A.M.E. or find the HH54VP on sale at eBay: bit.ly/HH54VP , my review: ruclips.net/video/3moNOFC3EVo/видео.html

      ER50 can charge and solar charge batteries, but ER10VP, only 3 AA alkaline batteries. Don’t put lithium AA batteries.

      If you need one for stay at home use, invest in a Midland WR150 or better table unit. They are fantastic, and will run up to fifty hours on batteries, if the power goes out. If you want AM FM and Weather the WR300, and WR400 have those frequencies. If you want a portable, the best one is the one you can easily carry. One of the best made Emergency portables is the CC Radio Solar.

    Can I used rechargeable batteries or lithiums in this model? Also, do you prefer this or the ER50 as an “only one” weather radio? If I can use the rechargeables, I am leaning toward this one for common battery compatibility and size.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  2 года назад

      This would be my backup radio. I would choose the C.Crane Radio Solar for my "only one" Weather radio: ruclips.net/video/NP8b4W-mj7E/видео.html

    How long can wx alert mode run on battery power?

  • @dannyh9010
    @dannyh9010 2 года назад

    I Know Midland’s official position on rechargeables (at least in their desktop WR120) is that they are not advised. Is there any reason not to use them in this radio?

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  2 года назад

      Should work fine, the light may be a little dimmer due to the lower voltage.

      Yes, but the ER10 followed quickly after.

    Is it possible to start doing simple (and hopefully reversible) teardowns to see what main ICs are being used? My guess is that there are 2 or 3 different brands digital receivers (Skyworks/SiLabs, etc.). This would give a new dimension to your channel. You talk about AM antenna. Let’s see it! 😉

    Is there any reason why you're only reviewing "made in China " brands? No German HiFi brands?? Japanese?
