I own this amp and it kicks ass. You can totally get metal tones at a whisper and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, if they say you can't then they haven't really played it or haven't tried. Snobs say the speaker sucks, but it sounds good to my ears. If you like metal and rock, get it you will not regret it.
One of the best sounding rock/metal combos out there (especially considering the price)!***** At least as a music company, Peavey is still in touch with the working-class musician!
When I first bought it, I had no idea what I've got in my hands... absolutely beautiful sounding amp for any type of music... I'll soon turn it into a custom 60w head but keep the 1x12 cabinet fully operational for smaller gigs and less spacious transports. Thank You Peavey for making my playing and sound even more enjoyable... \m/
The thing I like most about this video is the fact that the guy playing the guitar is not over playing. Too many times I see videos showcasing an amp and the guitar player is shredding away, playing shit that I would not play. With this video, I hear stuff that I would play. That gives me a better idea of what the amp would sound like if I were to play it. Nice! Thanks!
Yes it sounds awesome at low volumes. If you put an EQ pedal in the loop this thing sounds like a monster. I have played this amp cranked plenty of times and yes it does sound better loud, but it is no slouch when played at low volumes.
Well. To be honest you can't play a Tube amp turned down to bedroom sound levels, because a Tube amp only shines when you feed it some volume :-) But that goes for almost all Tube amps i reckon. So if you want a practice amp that sounds exactly the same at knob level 1 or 10 then go for a Solid State. Tube amps are very Dynamic in sound as to how loud they get.
Olivere118 Most tube amps, yes. However, I'll say that 5W or lower could be cranked in the bedroom, but it's not what you'd call bedroom levels (it's gonna be a bit louder). The smallest amp I have is _only_ 15 watts and I certainly wouldn't crank that, For this reason,
sounds good, but the tone knobs do very little. id suggest exchanging the speaker in it, then it'll sound a lot better, and add a lot more dynamic range
I love this amp, its simple with 2 channels, and has none of that digital crap reverb and digital effects that you have to be a rocket scientist to learn how to program (thank GOD!) plus it has enough distortion to choke a elephant, but my guitar shop says the 2x12 is not on they're new price list, is it discontinued?? if so please bring it back!! I might have to end up getting this 1x12, also can you guys add another speaker jack, I want to run 2 expansion cabs, either 2-2x12 or 2-4x12 spread out across the stage or band practice using one as as a monitor. Please keep making these or something similar, they are badass.
i have one. absolutly brutal. took the high gain electro harmonix 12ax7 out of v-1, and put in a medium power jj. still brutal!!! put in a eminince govonor speaker. i play a modified epi les paul with a dimarzio tone zone in the bridge. no distortion pedal needed!!!
im torn between the 6505 and the valveking, they both sound really good but i dont know which one to get. all i know is that im going to get a peavey, because they deliver a good product, at a price that doesn't break the bank
Just bought this amp to use for small gigs bars etc.....love this this thing...and it was a smokin deal with footswitch....great little amp for gigging..
I have this thing, it has a switch in the back to switch between 4, 8 and 16 ohms. I use 4 ohms for practice in the bedroom, it's not as big sounding as the 16 ohms, but it's pretty damn good. I literally put it on like 0.6 on the volume, though. It still supplies me with a decent amount of headroom at low volumes, but it really gets good when you kick it up a little, as with most tube amps.
I thought so too, but then again everything could be eq'd at 12 o'clock for the demo's sake. The 6505 didn't earn its place as one of the best amps in metal for nothing!
No question this is a great amp... but theres some morron speaking on top of the mdsi output, so you cant compare it to the sm57 off axis...i dont know if the mdsi output is useless or not... at least not from this.
hey there. I have the 6505+ head, I really need your help in choosing the right speaker cabinet to run it. I have Marshall MF400 4x12 cab with stock speakers, and it seems cannot really crank the 6505+ to its full potential and somehow it sounds kinda empty. please let me know if you can give me a great choice of cabs I could use. thanks a lot.
I am planning to buy this amp and made it to the head? Is it worth it? Will I need a noise supressor also or something? Playing mostly modern punk (American sound)
im having the 6505 tomorow YES MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN IM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED ......hope im getting my money well spent !this video shows its good but i wont know till i play myself !any one out there has this amp ?please tell me anything if you have it!thanks in advance
miles janes I didnt see anyone answer this yet.... I have it on 1.5 and my wife downstairs has the TV cranked and has text me to turn it down already... whoops.
the sheffield speakers suck i changed mine to celestion speakers for a better tone as before i switched the speaker the tone was too thin and had no depth if you get what im saying
I must have this amp! Guitar Center sells this amp for $649.99. They sell used ones for half the price but I would never buy a used tube amp; the tubes could be ready to die, so it’s new for me! I presently have a Peavey VYPYR VIP 2 40W 1x12 Guitar Modeling Combo, but compared to a true tube amp like Peavey 6505+ 112 Combo there is no comparison, tube amps are much better sounding!
Piotrek Lesiński Yeah! Agree! I bought the 6505+ 112 combo, I like it but it's heavy as hell, toting it to practice sucks! I'm selling the combo and getting the 6505+ Head, I have a 4x12 cab so I'll be good to go! But thanks for the info; I appreciate it!
Looking for tube suggestions, looking to open up the sound of the amp, mine seems to have that blanket effect, and I'm thinking it may be time to swap the tubes. Anyone else out the use a WGS Retro 30 with this amp?
Absolutely not true. I play this amp mainly in the bedroom. I has great volume control, and decent tones can be had at below normal conversation levels. Although it sounds significantly better at 3-4 on the post gain, but hey, that's the case with just about every tube amp out there.
awesome little amp! just too bad the head version is twice the price, you guys should launch a version which is pretty much this, but without the speaker part (for the same price), that would sell like pizza
I have this bad boy.... I had to buy a dr. z air brake to tame this wild beast but find that at the wattage down to 1W the high gain tones just don't sound nearly as good... any higher than 1W though it starts to get loud :) so yea I don't actually play it that often, but when I do I blow the neighbor's windows in :D
Why don't my cleans sound as good as they do in this video? Also my distorted tones sound muffled and muddy. I hear a tube or two that might be burnt out. Would that be it?
I think that is mostly attributed to the fact that it runs through a 1x12 speaker. Running this thing through a 4x12 cab sounds like an absolute beast.
Sir, that's one fat a** tone you have there, pardon my french! Do tell, please, is that sound coming right out of the amp? If not, can you please tell what kind of pedal you're using? Thank you.
I own this amp and it kicks ass. You can totally get metal tones at a whisper and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, if they say you can't then they haven't really played it or haven't tried. One of the best sounding rock/metal combos out there (especially considering the price)!***** At least as a music company, Peavey is still in touch with the working-class musician!
will this amp piss off my neighbors and make them want to kill me?
"...with the pre-gain set fairly low"
Give me a break, lol. That's still enough gain for some metal and it was only set to 2.5.
When I first bought it, I had no idea what I've got in my hands... absolutely beautiful sounding amp for any type of music... I'll soon turn it into a custom 60w head but keep the 1x12 cabinet fully operational for smaller gigs and less spacious transports. I don't know why so many people say that this amp isn't good for cleans. It sounds DAMN nice in the clean setting.
If you like the 6505 your gonna love the 6534+ its a true Metal Workhorse! !
This amp has a very good volume taper you can get great sounds at bed room volume easy.
playing very heavy metalcore music!
this amp works perfect for live and rehearsal.
Awesome amp, but does it still sound good at bedroom sound
levels?
Yes I use it for concert, reapet with my band and ofc in my room. That's pretty good :) (in my opinion)
Yes it sounds awesome at low volumes. If you put an EQ pedal in the loop this thing sounds like a monster. I have played this amp cranked plenty of times and yes it does sound better loud, but it is no slouch when played at low volumes.
No. This is for metal heads and exactly for gigs. Unless you have deaf neighbors you will get shot and stabbed.
Well. To be honest you can't play a Tube amp turned down to bedroom sound levels, because a Tube amp only shines when you feed it some volume :-) But that goes for almost all Tube amps i reckon. it's perfect to play on my bedroom at midnight with volume cranked
these amps are amazing i can use these live at gigs
I say that sounded jolly spiffing
do they really sound as good as they do in this video?
sounds good, but the tone knobs do very little. id suggest exchanging the speaker in it, then it'll sound a lot better, and add a lot more dynamic range
So this is basically the original 6505 but in a combo?
+Markus Lundgren yep
This would be awesome in a Head version. 60 watts of power.
Less talking and more hearing the amp.
is it loud enough to keep up with a drummer?
I love this amp, its simple with 2 channels, and has none of that digital crap reverb and digital effects that you have to be a rocket scientist to learn how to program (thank GOD!) plus it has enough distortion to choke a elephant, but my guitar shop says the 2x12 is not on they're new price list, is it discontinued?? if so please bring it back!! Please keep making these or something similar, they are badass.
trey tolbert never mind I see now that it already has two speaker jacks,
Should i get Peavey 5150 212 2x12 or Peavey 6505+ 112 Combo ?
i have one. absolutly brutal. took the high gain electro harmonix 12ax7 out of v-1, and put in a medium power jj. still brutal!!! put in a eminince govonor speaker. i play a modified epi les paul with a dimarzio tone zone in the bridge. no distortion pedal needed!!!

Just bought this amp to use for small gigs bars etc.....love this this thing...and it was a smokin deal with footswitch....great little amp for gigging..
i have one. absolutly crushing distortion. even pulled the eh high gain tube out of v-1, and put in a jj to calm it down. stiil, a beast!
Is it safe to say that this exact amp, will be good enough for small venues and clubs?
just me who thinks the amp sounds weird when distorted? idk it sounds very compressed and cardboardy to me
I thought so too, but then again everything could be eq'd at 12 o'clock for the demo's sake. The 6505 didn't earn its place as one of the best amps in metal for nothing!
No question this is a great amp... but theres some morron speaking on top of the mdsi output, so you cant compare it to the sm57 off axis...i dont know if the mdsi output is useless or not... at least not from this.
Can you attach a cab to this and if so would it be suitable for small gigs?
Yes, but you won't need to. This is already suitable for small gigs on its own.
iv not long had this amp and its great, just wondering is it possible to connect a head to this amp ?
What is this for a Guitar on 0:06 to 1:13 ?? Looks GREAT ! ! :)
So what exactly is the difference between the 6505 and the 6534??
I am planning to buy this amp and made it to the head? Is it worth it? Will I need a noise supressor also or something? Playing mostly modern punk (American sound)
im having the 6505 tomorow YES MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN IM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED ......hope im getting my money well spent !this video shows its good but i wont know till i play myself !any one out there has this amp ?please tell me anything if you have it!thanks in advance
is this suitable for bedroom practice or is it WAY too loud like i've heard?
Its pretty loud. I wouldn't recommend it for bedroom use
miles janes Purchase a power attenuator.
***** one speaker doesn't mean it's quiet. 60 watt tube volume is enough for on stage
miles janes way too loud! that is, if you don't live in the desert or the woods... 7 to 15 watts (tube amp) is sufficient for bedroom use.
miles janes I didnt see anyone answer this yet.... I have it on 1.5 and my wife downstairs has the TV cranked and has text me to turn it down already... whoops.
Why is the head alone more expensive than the combo?
Is there any way to turn this monster to 30W amp?
Buy an attenuator...
is there any alternative combo amp for a good modern metal sound? Im looking to buy a new amp and help would be appreciated.
Is this amp any good at bedroom volume? Sometimes I play with a band but most of the time I will be playing in a flat.
What was the slow song at 1:14?
What is the effect of changing the tubes on this amp ?
this is my favourite, i'm abou to buy one soon... can i plug any footstomp i want? and what about the MSDI output, what can i do with that?
The PV sound. That's it.
Looks very interesting, I like the sound of this amp. But a "real life" try is needed before thinking about buying it.
the sheffield speakers suck i changed mine to celestion speakers for a better tone as before i switched the speaker the tone was too thin and had no depth if you get what im saying
ya it still sounds good at low volumes, though it sounds the best when you push the tubes!
can activate the reverb with the footswitch?
peavy i hope you get this. can i use an xlr usb adaptor to connect the msdi?
How is the amp mic'ed in this video?
i want one!!! probably going to order one in january :D
I'm going to buy this amp, any recommendations for good tubes to put in?
Tubes are fine, swap the speaker.
i have one of this, the only thing is that the front light doesnt turn on anymore :(
Whats the riff at the beginning? or is it original
what is name of that last solo ???
Does anyone know the song he's playing at 1:05?
Draconus theme at the final - Gilmore rules!
how do you use the msdi
I must have this amp! Guitar Center sells this amp for $649.99. They sell used ones for half the price but I would never buy a used tube amp; the tubes could be ready to die, so it’s new for me! +OTCRock4one You can change all tubes and it will be still cheaper than new.
OTCRock4one that may be good option but you know that you can split combo?
vypr amps are like the best of solid state though.I have a 15 watt one i got for $50
vypr amps are like the best of solid state though.I have a 15 watt one i got for $50.
is this amp meant to have effects or should i say will effects work well with it or does it have effects already. im really green in the gear dept
+YYZ JJ it doesn't have on board effects. effects pedals will work great with it. it has an effects loop as well.
The effects would work well in it.
YEAH .. I LOVE 6505 ..
Thank x For the Video .
Does anyone know the song he's playing at 0.00- 1.10
could this amp play gigs?
anyone know the name of the song, or where i can find the tabs?
Peavey 6505+ 112 is awsome :)
The intro is so epic!
You should make a 6534+ combo that would be sick!
CRAZY AMP!!
Looking for tube suggestions, looking to open up the sound of the amp, mine seems to have that blanket effect, and I'm thinking it may be time to swap the tubes. Anyone else out the use a WGS Retro 30 with this amp?
hey guys if you make your own recordings post them on my website. get vocals on them and promote your stuff! promote peavey! see you guys there
tabs for the last riff?
please!
Absolutely not true. I play this amp mainly in the bedroom. I has great volume control, and decent tones can be had at below normal conversation levels. Although it sounds significantly better at 3-4 on the post gain, but hey, that's the case with just about every tube amp out there.
Thank you peavey, i love you
This thing sounds better than a blackstar ht 60 soloist :O
Peavy 6505+ is Awsome :)
awesome little amp! just too bad the head version is twice the price, you guys should launch a version which is pretty much this, but without the speaker part (for the same price), that would sell like pizza
wish they would make it midi controllable.
peavey is so awesome!
Right extreme modern sound...
saving up right now.
I want one, but I'd definitely swap out that speaker. Sounds like ass in this video.
I have one it sounds like it has such mids even if u turns mids down
screw with the resonance and presence, plus maybe its a sign not to scoop kids
i'll get one with a maxon od808 pedal
I have this bad boy.... I had to buy a dr. z air brake to tame this wild beast but find that at the wattage down to 1W the high gain tones just don't sound nearly as good... any higher than 1W though it starts to get loud :) so yea I don't actually play it that often, but when I do I blow the neighbor's windows in :D
Well I"m sold!
BOUGHT ONE TODAY WOOOOO!
that thing looks like it weighs a ton
the boosted crunch channel tho..
Why don't my cleans sound as good as they do in this video? Also my distorted tones sound muffled and muddy. I hear a tube or two that might be burnt out. Would that be it?
No lol I don't. I know about sound EQ and I know what not to do. Like scoop mids.
Would this be suitable for small gigs?
absolutely
For small and medium no doubt.
what name of the song from 4:10
Ok amp. Head and cab sounds absolutely insane but combo could be better
I think that is mostly attributed to the fact that it runs through a 1x12 speaker. Running this thing through a 4x12 cab sounds like an absolute beast.
I can say that i have it and thru a 4x12 sounds far better.
nice
i think it' improvisation :)
#ROCKdemais \o/
u could fit 4 ten inch speakers in this wtf
I want...
Assured you will be asked to move. 60watts...paint will come off walls.
My Crate 140-watt 2x12 blows that junk out the club...
Crate Solid State?
GTD120
a 120-watt, my mistake, but it screams and bleeds...

Looking at a Mini-Soldano or Mini-ENGL
Sir, that's one fat a** tone you have there, pardon my french! Do tell, please, is that sound coming right out of the amp? If not, can you please tell what kind of pedal you're using? Thank you.
Only sad part is it made in china. Boo. Save ypur money and get the head and cab or the 2x12 combo youll be more happy
