The Benefits of Prostate MRI

Prostate MRI is a new imaging technique used for screening and monitoring prostate cancer. The use of MRIs can reduce the frequency of biopsies a patient receives, Dr. Mark Scholz says.
Prostate cancer biopsies are uncomfortable and can cause infections among other problems. Also, men with lower grade cancers can safely monitor the status of their disease without invasive techniques such as biopsies. This technology is sparing men on active surveillance for prostate cancer from infections and much discomfort.
A board-certified medical oncologist, Mark C. Scholz, MD, serves as medical director of Prostate Oncology Specialists Inc. in Marina del Rey, CA, a medical practice exclusively focused on prostate cancer. He is also the executive director of the Prostate Cancer Research Institute He received his medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, Dr. Scholz completed his Internal Medicine internship and Medical Oncology fellowship at University of Southern California Medical Center.
