    Song was HUGE in its day. Eddie wrote about the brown corduroy jacket that he wore everywhere. He said he bought his for about $12 at a thrift store. Suddenly everybody wants one and they're designer versions for $650. And Ricky Martin is running around on General Hospital in one looking like a pretty version of him. He got really pissed off and that's what the song is about. No privacy. The record company trying to package him because he was a hot commodity.
    People are STILL looking for that jacket.

    • @THEDavidHeretic
      @THEDavidHeretic  3 года назад +7

      Isn't it sad...how quickly a record company can turn a human being into a commodity, or property? It usually takes about 3.8 seconds....about the same amount of time it takes to sign a record contract...funny how that works....

  • @ItThatLed

    I'm two years late but man, that part where the crowd sings.. Eddie just starts to improv stuff, the band improvs along with him, then he sings the line the crowd just sang, but at the tempo of the improv.. then the entire band shifts right back into the song's rhythm. Just pure professionals.

    The drummer is Matt Cameron. He was Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog drummer. When Soundgarden stop playing for the first time (after down on the upside record) he became Pearl Jam's drummer.

    Thanks for the reaction. Here are my thoughts. There are very few concert videos I like watching and rewatching because the footage blew me away. I can watch AC/DC live at riverplate or Van Halen Live without a net a million times. Ditto for some clips of Stevie Ray Vaughn. But Pearl Jam music is music I want to play over and over and over and over again because every element of most songs feels right. The dual and some times 3 guitars of Stone, Mike, and sometimes Eddie are so simpatico. The bass and drums are always so tight. The lyrics are deep. Do I need to see Corduroy at Wrigley on repeat no. Will I play Corduroy (any version) repeatedly. Hell yes!
    A thought on live vs. studio: I generally agree with your love of live performances, but I feel like the beauty of a live performance can be lost a bit when you aren't familiar with the original. You can't always see when a band is free styling or the mix might make it harder to get the lyrics. When you know the song by heart already those variations enhance it, but when you don't know it already, you miss something in the song. My $.02. Thanks again for another fun reaction.

    As phenomenal as they are live (and they are one of the best live bands ever)...their sound crew should get a special shout out. Their actual mix live is so much better than almost anybody's out there. What you hear from this professionally recorded "bootleg"...that's essentially what the mix sounds like when you are there. just turned up a lot louder. I have seen them in particular venues that every other band i've seen there it has just been all sub frequencies vocals and you can kinda hear everything else in a wash to their crew getting the venue to just sound like this mix. That band and crew really are just a gold standard.

    • @THEDavidHeretic

    I'll try to add links next time.. you're right about live performances and how the energy can do so much to a crowd. I was never a Kid Rock fan, was that guy that would snob at the mention of his name lol. But my brother is a fan and had an extra ticket, and I gotta say, I was very impressed with his live show.. mind you it was Detroit, so he could've gave it a little extra energy, but every time I've seen them it's been great..

It is for the entire concert but it has a cool intro to the song that is not on the single song. Song starts at 28 minutes. ruclips.net/video/Be0clN1jTog/видео.html

    Good reaction. Little more background on this performance that you may or may not find interesting... this concert was actually a pair of sold out concerts played on back to back nights at Wrigley Field in Chicago (that’s where they get the title Let’s Play Two). First thing...how many bands can sell out 40,000 seat stadiums not once, but twice on back to back nights? Second, Eddie is a big Chicago Cubs fan and this was a totally fitting venue to play a summer concert. Third, a famous old time Cubs baseball player named Ernie Banks coined the phrase “Let’s play two” in reference to playing a double header baseball game. The name of the concert was paying homage to Mr Banks.
    No need to react to this, but it’ll show Eddie’s love for the Cubs. It was a tear jerker for die hard cub fans until they finally won a World Series later in 2016. ruclips.net/video/DjC6G0L8zWQ/видео.html

    Would love to see you react to PJ unplugged version of "State of Love and Trust". I've seen others suggest Pinkpop "Porch" but the whole show is awesome start to finish, ending with this "Pulled Up" going into "Keep On Rockin' In The Free World". Just amazing imo. : ruclips.net/video/k1XW_d1PeSM/видео.html . Sucks that things with Dave Abbruzzese went south for whatever reason. Don't want to go into that here, as too many people turn it into a shitfest. Sometimes people just don't mesh in the end or want to go in different directions. It happens, but there I go, going into it anyway. lol. Before things took a turn, though, they were so awesome together live. I actually found Ten kinda boring initially but then went to see them live in '91 and I was hooked. I have watched Pinkpop '92 a zillion times and it just seems like a perfect moment in time for them. Dave A.'s heartbeat pumping them all along. They just seemed so in sync musically.

      Luckily I've gotten waaaaaaay more compliments on my reviews than complaints, mostly people telling me they love how much I go into detail and talk at length about the song and it's complexities, and the song writing, and the performance, and the recording process. Sooooooooooo...sorry, I guess? But I'm not gonna change. Luckily for you, there are literally hundreds of other "reactors" on RUclips who have zero knowledge about the music industry, will "love" everything they watch (whether they actually do or not), and will talk for a total of 2 minutes...over half of which they spend begging you to "subscribe" to their channel.
