We live very near Dollywood, one of the top rated amusement parks in the US. My wife and I buy season passes and seldom ride anything. We go for the festivals and decorations. The Christmas decorations are stunning. They are becoming a mecca for roller-coaster fans. We went in the fall with another couple and decided to ride a newish coaster: black bear falls. It was all we wanted and our friends wife actually had to sit on a step of the ride exit to gain her composure. In my 30s I loved all coasters. In my late 50s not so much.
Well done! Just trying to test a fear is a big step that you can be proud of. Sometimes you’ll be able to do more, sometimes less, and every time is a triumph.
Well done testing the fear that you can be proud of what you have achieved Paul, I've never been there always wanted to go there. Thank you Jo and Paul fantastic video 😊
Just seen this. You must have visited in the Summer. We are avid theme park fans, I absolutely love them. 45 min queue for Wickerman is ok, it’s usually on about an hour. I wouldn’t wait 2.5 hours for smiler, it’s not worth that wait. We regularly go to Alton Towers because we have Merlin Annual Passes. I was going to say you can’t film on the rides but then the ride ops told you. Looks like Jo had a great day though. We have paid for the fast passes when our friend looked after our son for the day. We got on so many rides it was worth it for us for that day.
It's not your thing, Paul. I was surprised to even see you on Wickerman. Its a real phobia and you did well! Some people (me) are scared to go out and wildcamp alone, yet you can do that without a second thought. We're all different and its about pushing yourself to do things that put you out of your comfort zone, which you did! Really enjoyed this video.
Hi Paul, i can do many things but there are still things with heights and speed that throw me, I couldn’t go to the top of the Eden Project up the steps, i got 3/4 of the way up and began to shake, i have walked both Striding edge and Crib Coch walking along the tops, so i know what its like, firstly attempting it is a win. Thanks for showing it that is also brave. Paul
Hey mate Jo’s exactly right we all have our likes and things we not so much like and those that we will not do no matter what! So I would say good on ya for giving it a go I’d say It takes a greater person to admit their limits an as Jo says she had a great time and that a win in my book 😁👍🏻
Paul you've not let anyone down mate. If you can't do it you can't do it. It's that simple. You went with every good intention to do it and at least you tried. Keep your chin up bud.
To be fair, they're overly cautious with Smiler, after the crash. It should be able to run 3 (I think) trains, simultaneously, but they only run 2 (I think). Which pushes queue times up. Its the best ride though, so people will queue for it. I'd have loved to have seen Paul on it 😂
You haven't let anyone down Paul! Wickerman is an intense ride and you did it front row! When rides are not your thing, that's a win!

What a lovely, supportive partner...treasure her!

😂 seriously though I could see Paul still shaking with nerves after ditching the queue. The gardens were lovely and you made it on 2 rides 👏🙌

Well I wasn’t expecting this. Alton Towers aphas great rides… but… for the more “rotund” chap it’s 5000 miles walk between each ride.
when was the video taken also loved the video
👋🏼
I get it Paul you'd have to pay me to go there.
You haven't let anyone down.
How is it acceptable for a queue for a ride to be 2.5 hours? That sounds like the system is broken.
