This is probably the best we will get to a true adaptation of the story, but I personally can’t get enough of treasure planet, might even supersede my enjoyment of the original story tbh
This movie is pure gold. Charlton Heston, Christian Bale, Julian Glover, Oliver Reed, Christopher Lee... and The Chieftans (music composer). Such an extraordinary pirate movie.
The naive nature of Trelawney really cracks me up - he meets this leathery old one legged sailor on the dock one time and instantly trusts him and even allows the guy to bring a bunch of his rowdy buddies along to serve as the crewmembers of the ship. The modern day equivalent of this would be Trelawny randomly meeting some old one legged biker dude at a diner and encouraging him to bring his biker buddies along 😂😂😂
Hey, look up the Altamont Free Concert Disaster that happened in 1969 ... that's eerily similar to what you described!! Just replace Trelawny with The Grateful Dead, the Hispanola with a free concert, and instead of John Silver and his mates serving aboard the ship, the Grateful Dead recommended the Hell's Angels biker gang to work as security on the concert.
Best Treasure Island adaptation ever done. Excellent cast. Epic dialogue. Soundtrack by the Chieftains. I’ve probably watched it 100 times since I was a wee laddie. The scene were young Hawkins is being chased up the mast is seared into my brain. So good.
I remember renting this on VHS in the early 90’s, and later buying it. My family and I watched it all the time, and a few years ago I was able to find a DVD of it. This is my favorite versions of this film.
I'm reading Treasure Island in Scottish Gaelic at the moment (Eilean an Ionmhais). LJS was translated as "Big Iain Silver" 😁 Interestingly, they translated Black Dog as "Black Wolf" 🐺🐺👍🏼👍🏼
3:14 I love the movie! Blackdogs reaction right there anyways when he sees Jim. 🤣🤣🤣 I'm guessing the reason he ran off like he did, Is because someone had a warrant out for his arrest because he was in on the attack when Blind Pew was killed. It is kind of odd that he didn't get aboard the Hispaniola with the rest of the pirates to go find the treasure.
I thought so too, looking at the comments it seems to be, The Star of the County Down or My Son John. My Son John is a sea shanty written in the Napoleonic war about a sailor named John who loses his leg, which is ironic this being Long John Silver.
He is playing a grampa but tht makes him more scary, i mean he scares the hell out of that dude and one eyes probably while being so sociable, thats scary.
@@Alex-cw3rz I don't know. Maybe a lot of kids today might not know that he's the antagonist. You don't really know he's the bad guy until the apple barrel chapter.
But good foreboding and pretty sure he is even more scare how sociable and nice he is while scaring people that know him. And distracting from that he was one of flints men.
This is the best Treasure Island film.
Dude 100% this is. Guy above must have an emotional attachment to the 50s one. This is by far the best ever made.
@@freshstart349guy deleted it because he knew he was wrong
Agreed

The best pirate movie.
Used to watch this nearly every other week with my late grandfather. For my money, the best pirate movie ever made, and criminally underrated.

@@arandompasserby7940 XD damn, through at least they were probably ok security?
why this film is hardly known is beyond me.
Cause its realistic and doesnt have cgi.
The definitive film and the definitive Silver. The fidelity to the book is unmatched.
And so underrated as well.

The best Treasure Island rendition ever made... by a long sea mile!
I don't think anyone played (Long John Silver) better then Charlton Heston. He did a great job with his character.
"A child could sail her, Doctor." Alluding to future events, Squire?
I love that they are playing the sea shanty my son John. It is about A man named John with one leg🤣💕🏴☠️
But ain’t it The Star of the County Down?
@@jakobsworkshop9198 those two have the same melody
pure classic, watched it many times over
That moment when you recognize an actor's face as a kid.
very nice...
Let's see John silver's ship
Such a wonderful movie!
Bought the DVD for my library.
I just finished watching this movie it was so good
Getting this on vhs at Xmas was ace classic film

The book takes place in the mid 1700s. Isn't the Gaelic language from medieval times?
I'm curious.
lol…one of flints men Jim says, unbeknownst to him he was in tavern full of them
The West Country accents are so good
one legend (Christian Bale) meets anothe BIG legend Charlton Heston!!!
Came to see John silver, found christian bale Jim Hawkins
1:52 is that Pete Postlethwaite, from the Sharpe series?
Yes. This film has so many great actors.
I can't believe Tom Holland was Christian Bale the whole time
in what world?
With the only difference that Christian Bale is actually more talented than Tom Holland
his english accent is greater even though he's really american
@@lechefjuancarlos Bro, they're both British.
@@IAmBushid0 I mean bale is damn talented,

Maybe scared that he would give away johns plan and be killed and , ok he being wanted, and ther is the one knowing him.
Chuck forgot his Wristwatch!
Nice catch. I’ve watched this movie dozens of times and I was always looking at their faces.
1:52 Pete Postlethwaite

Now. Let's all go watch Black Sails too.
dis a madness ting
At 2:11 when that peddle note kicks in you know that this character is going to be BAD.
Best Treasure Island

Bonjour, je recherche depuis des années un dvd ou autre de ce film en version française. Pourriez-vous m’aider ?
Wooah, that's Batman!
And Patrick Bateman too
Is that star of the county down playing in the tavern?
1:52 Is that Roland Tembo?
Hey Mr Silver, do you like Hughie Lewis and the news?
Hello
Does anyone know where I can watch this version?
1:48 what tune are they playing?
When Christian Bale meets Charlton Heston...still gives me the creeps.
😆
With what british accent played Charlton Henston?
Anime is great
Look how young Christian Bale is.
Jim Hopkins is.... Batman?!
Where batman and ben hur look for treasure lol
Aaarrrrghh
What tune/piece of music is playing as Jim is looking for Long John? The violin piece...it is dope.

OST????
I have some of the songs from the ost
I grew up watching this cartoon version of Treasure Island : ruclips.net/video/hmZBcEKfaqU/видео.html
al cabo de una hora los vivos le tendran envidia a los🚬 ... 💨🌫️☁️☠️ Muertos.
- Capitan John Silver.
The Silver I remember from childhood (maybe it was book or radio-version) was SCARY, not a buffoon or grandpa type. A snake man.
Charlton Heston fits the "snake" type.

You see the little kids throwing the saucers in mr india 😂
Good but Robert newton he ain’t.
Is Christian supposed to be Irish?
Christian Bale is from Wales
@@James-ps9zo I know can not place the accent.
Devonshire
I don't like the way Long John is introduced here.
The music already suggests that he's villainous.
