First of all thanks for your video, it's so nice and simply explained. After days of researches I think I'm getting very close to understand what I need, but I still need some help, and I'm pretty sure you must know or already have a video on that. What I want is, while recording a video from my smartphone (using Open Camera), is to record 2 audio sources at the same time: - My microphone (preferably my mxl v67g condenser microphone but it can be something else) - The sound coming from my laptop The tricky part mybe is that I need to be able to still heat the sound from my laptop while recording. At the moment I do have the steinberg ur22c (very similar to the focusrite scarlett 2i2) connected to my laptop and where my mic is plugged in and from where the sound are directed to my speakers. Is that something that is doable? do I need a mixing cable, or maybe simply upgrade to something like the scarlett 4i4? I can't get my head around it. Hopefully I was clear enough but if you need any additional info I'd be glad to assist. Would really appreciate your help on this (but would understand if too complex or too busy 😅😅) Thanks
Awesome!! As an vocal artist I’ve been searching for tutorial on vocal recording using my iPhone thru my Yamaha 10 ice mixer. You’re a heaven sent answer.
Thanks! Very good and thourough video. I would love a good solution to go live... send to a Zoom meeting and record... and then have another phone to play music during breaks. Thank you again!
Your videos are the best! It is comprehensive, easy to follow, simple illustrations that adds so much clarity and your intent to demystify things is very evident and the effort is successful. Thank you for doing these for us. Loved it ❤
Wow... Not that I spend a ton of time looking, but suffice it to say, I spend SOME time looking into help with my home studio.... MUSIC REPO seems to be the BEST BY FAR and answering PRECISELY the question I have and issues I run into with my devices and connections. She just seems to have a feel for EXACTLY the issues and questions you might run into while setting up or using your home recording studio. THANK YOU
Fantastic work on this one. I have been mulling around how to go about this… I have a focus rite so that’s a start. Adapters, mixer and cables next. Thanks
stupid Apple. it was fine with the headphone/mic.. now they've changed it to no headphone/mic so watching your video has given me a way to connect again with a small usb interface to my mixer thank you
What is the best way to get both audio recorded from my digital piano into my android smart phone for use on tiktok duet and have a condenser mic that will enable me to record audio the exact same way?
Very informative video. I'm getting bad distortion with mixer going into Android phone through the little headphone input. I need that small red Behringer U-control UC A222 box. But is that "Gritin" OTG lead you showed to connect to a phone through its USB port not available with the 3.5m jack on the end ?? As l've been told my Samsung galaxy A14 does not support audio in through the USB port... only the headphone port. Any advice please ?
Do these methods pick up my phone conversation? (Not just the audio coming from the phone, but my voice going into the phone as well? That's what I need for broadcast purposes.
Thank you for the great instructional video, it was very helpful ! I have a few questions 1) If I have headphone port in my android, then I connect the TRRS cable from the audio interface headphone port. In that case, do I have to use the usb connection for power from the phone, or I can use any other power source such as a laptop usb port ? 2) If I want to use my guitar amp to simultaneously listen to playback, then I connect a TRS cable from the mixer phones output to the amp line in , is that correct ? 3) If I want to pass my backing track from my laptop to the mixer and since I only have a headphone port I use the 3.5 TRS to Dual 1/4" TS stereo breakout cable to connect to the line input channels of the mixer ? 4) Instead of directly connecting the guitar , I can connect the guitar to an effects processor and then connect the processor to the mixer line in , without the need of any other device, is that correct?
I'm hoping this will work to connect to a 1984 or 1985 realistic soundboard ? I had a tape box connected for background track to sing with but that died. Everything else works. I record with a boom box with a tape player behind me as I'm singing. 😅 I'm old school. House has to be quiet 😂. But it works! I hope this will help with better quality recording with equipment that I have. I love how you simplify it all and get right to the point. God bless!
Hi. Thanks for some good info. How do you set up a mixer and an interface to record a caller coming in on a cellphone --- say if you were to do a broadcast or a podcast? That is what I really need.
May I ask you a deeper question about your settings within the Open Camera app? My goal is to hear output in surround sound, or surround sound emulation through all 4 speakers. I’m going out from my external mixer straight into my Android phone using the interface cables you described in your video. (I am “not” using the alternate method with the little interface unit.). I played around with settings in Open Camera. In Video Settings / Audio Channels, initially I selected Stereo. Output sounds great, but comes out in my front 2 speakers only. I believe Default and Mono are the same. I tried Mono and I did hear output in the 2 rear speakers too, but volume was much lower and I want to say slightly distorted. I have the Video Format set to Default. Do you have any tips on how to achieve surround sound (or surround sound emulation) using the Open Camera app? I’m fairly confident it is within the app and not cable or interface related. Thanks!
Really nice video but what about using audio interface and charge at the same time? Is there an adapter for android like the Apple USB 3 camera adapter?
Thanks for this video. Which of the option would you recommend I use if I wanted to dial into a audio conference line using my cell phone and broadcast the audio from the mixer into the conference call?
6:17 we do not have two out from our mixer. We have a single head phone jack or a single monitor out. Is there a way to send this signal out from one 1/4 inch to the Beringer then into the phone or a Chromebook? Can you suggest wires and steps to do this? Thank you for your great videos
Whirlwind makes a DI box called the ISOPODci which which converts a mobile device's TRRS I/O to balanced line-level I/O on XLR, with a few extra features to boot. It's quite expensive but probably also quite good. I haven't used it yet, myself.
If your goal is to make phone calls through your professional audio gear then bear in mind that some phones restrict USB audio devices' access to the phone app. In this case a TRRS or Bluetooth solution would be the only options.
Speaking of which, a company called Angry Audio makes a product creatively named the _Bluetooth Audio Gadget_ which provides XLR IO to a mobile device using either Bluetooth or TRRS. Also rather pricey but probably also really handy. I have not tried it, myself.
this is so valuable to me! thank you so so much! But I have one question: I'd like to try out the version at 8:22. But my Focusrite Interface has only one line input and one mic/XLR input. How can I get the signal from my balanced mixer outputs to my Focusrite Inputs in this case? Can I use to different cables? Does that cause any volume based problems? I'd really appreciate an answer! =)
Thanks for the great easy to follow instructions, however after trying most of the options to get a recording on my android phone I can't manage to record any sound, no movement on the sound bar during recording but can hear through the headphones ok when I'm playing/singing. I am using a Allen & Heath ZED10FX mixer. Any suggestions.
Helo mam i need your help..hope your response.. what accessories should i buy to connect line output of audio interface to open camera apps of my phone?
I need to know how to do the live stream using this. I’ve been setting up my mixer and phone. Still i am the only one hearing my audio background and not my audience
from 6:15 is exactly what i needed, thankyou, i have been recording live into the trrs usiing the mic input, and its nasty....and mono... so will give this a go, is there a way to havemy ANDROID tablet/phone charging as well as using an OTG? this would be super . thanks. edit: so this way does cut off the android tablet 'internal' mic doesnt it?
If the interface is bus powered, you can't use its USB port to connect to the phone. Or do you connect it that way and the phone powers the interface? But then you can't charge your phone, so you're relying on your phone battery to power everything. How much life would you get, roughly speaking and generalising I know(!), from a fully charged battery? By the way, I have been searching for a video on this topic and yours is by far the most comprehensive, so thanks!
Hello, and thanks for an informative video. What I want is to record my guitar direct from the line out of my guitar device and/or mixer to my android phone. But why do I need an interface in between; can't I just get a mini-jack to usb-c adapter and go directly from my device (with a mini-jack cable) and directly into the phone?
Helpful info - but was looking how to charge an android phone whilst live streaming… similar to the apple adaptor. As all these methods rely upon the phones battery to power the focusrite whilst live streaming.. combined with video during the live stream the battery will run down fast. Any adaptors avail that can charge a samsung via USB C whilst connected to the focusrite for longer duration streams. 👍🏼 As i have transferred from using Apple phone ( using the charge / data adaptor to an Android Phone for faster speeds via USB C . As lightning port is Max 480mb/s as opposed to USB C up to 10 GB/sec.. for a more stable audio.. but i can’t find an adaptor to charge the android phone at the same time of live streaming audio from a focusrite… or does the USB C cable do all this without an adaptor? 🤔
We use a keyboard in our band so the 1/4 slots are taken. I use RCA to bring in music during a break. Is there a way to use one of my "monitor out" ports to send our phone out?? It is a "Zoom L20" where we have some available inputs. Can I use 2 of the inputs for the 1/4 inch jacks (one panned left and one panned right)? Thank you for any insight! Great video
Your videos are amazing! I've learned so much. I am curious if you could recommend or even demonstrate a specific scenario I'm trying to achieve. I would love to know how I could connect my iPhone into an audio interface or mixer board so that I can receive and hear a caller (say whatsapp call or regular cellular call) but also be able to respond to the caller using an XLR mic that is connected in thru the mixer or audio interface. I've seen various attempts at this but to me it looks like the solutions involve having a mixer send a line level signal back to the iphone (via a lighting adapter) when it may be expecting a mic level signal. A bonus would be if I could also capture/record this interaction on my computer using something like audacity. Thank you!
So would that Beringer cheap orange sound card allow me to use my phone as a complete replacement for a MINI DISK walkman? I can record stereo Hi Fi sound from any analogue source?. Also is it 16 Bit, or 24 Bit? Lastly what Audio recorder software that permits external stereo sources would you recommend if all i want is audio, not video? (Record FLAC/WAV 24 Bit)
Can you use Voice Memo recording on your iPhone, and simultaneously, send what's being recorded to a mixer..???.....the mixer goes to streaming website. But we use pro cameras....dont want the phone involved ...other than for its audio being recorded.
Hey thanks for demonstrating this setup in a really easy to follow process! I have bought the Behringer UCA222 and connected it via an adaptor to my phone, but unfortunatel it doesn't seem to power the interface sadly. the interface does work when I connect to my laptop however, so I'm just wondering if you have a recommendation or a work around for this with my samsung a71? I've bought a usb power bank to hopefully bring it to life but i suppose maybe my phone's connection is dodgy or something. I have another option of potentially using an iPad so I might look into that too but the phone would be my preference for instagram live gigs. Cheers and thanks again! Matt
Is there a way to reduce the Gain in the phone software itself? I'm using the keyboard stereo and also keep the gain all the way down on the focusrite. If I add any type of volume either from my keyboard volume or the focusrite I get clipping and distortion. I'd like to have a higher headphone volume but I can only achieve that by turning the volume up on my keyboard or the focusrite.
Great! But how to get your audio interface powered while connecting to iphone via otg adapter? I use motu m2 it seems it cannot be powered is such way…(((
I should say this is the best video so far. Question: at the moment i am trying to setup a mini recording studio.. Drums with microphone, guitar amp with mic, all connected to mixer. If i connect the phone to the mixer to record the music, what happens if the speaker is also on? the speaker is connected to the mixer's output. If i use my mic, i hear it to the speaker.. If i start recording, is there a possibility that i would hear the sound from or coming from speaker? thank you in advance
What do I need to stream music from my phone or pc and hear it to my DJ speakers? I am using pioneer ddjsx controller and want to sound good coming out from speakers. Do I need to buy a DJ sound card?
I'm thinking I need the OTG adapter and possibly correct drivers for the R24 and Open Camera app. Could it be that simple , maby. I appreciate any thoughts 🤗
Can you do a video about set up for Shure ksm 141 condenser to a mixer then into a camera. What is the best way to set it up ? I am using it mainly to record video with higher quality sounds for performance, thank you very much.
