Thanx for the great video. I was telling my wife about the Woolwich ferry and wanted to show her. I used this ferry daily about 3 times a day when delivering rental cars back in 2005. That wooden deck is very slippery when its wet 😁.
Crossed the ferry many times in the 70s and used the foot tunnel. Nort Woolwich station was reopened in the 80s as the North London Line to Richmond. Before it was part of the Eastern Region to Stratford run by a two car diesel train. The three ferrys operated here in your film were from '63 replacing older ferries. TV series 'The Professionals' features one. Nice upload.
It only works now and again. Most every morning the traffic news says it's out of action because of 'Operational Reasons' or 'Technical Reasons', or 'Staff Shortage', or whatever excuse they've got this time. Sometimes they tell us only one boat's running for the same range of reasons. It should be replaced with a bridge or tunnel or whatever because that's likely to work every day.
Used to use it to get to North London Poly - Thames poly students hijacked it once for Rag Week ? Always reliable service - certainly wouldn’t walk through tunnel with the way London is now
I caught two of the Male staff kissing on there once . As I walked past them one of them asked me if I was ok and could he help me , he had ginger hair and his name was Danny Bullman . Anyway , I reported him but never heard anything .
Good to see the old ferries again.
Glad you uploaded this. Bring back so many memories, thanks !

Is it not running anymore?
Thanks I've always wondered how this worked,

i was born around here...lived here for many years...just up the road on Woolwich common
It's a nice concept but seems a little dated. There should really be a bridge or a tunnel in this location by now.
Used it many times fond memories a bit tight in an articulated vehicle though 😁

Its free of charge to use as well, unlike the Dartford crossing.
i drive past this every day for work..I had no idea this is how it worked! Does anyone know why on some mornings the ferry is closed?
Mainly due to weather conditions such as fog, strong wind etc.
Great video..thank you
Did they really ask you to park behind the flat bed lorry? Always wondered how this service operates. Good video.
It runs between North Woolwich and South Woolwich, nowhere near Tower Bridge or Dartford Crossing.
Cant just build a bridge?
We have quite a lot of them already, plus a few tunnels too
How much is it
My daughter having trouble getting the message across...
I spent time there a lot
This is the old one the new one is better

You have too much time.
What the hell 😂 reported them for what! It’s literally free to mind your own business
It just mad me feel uncomfortable, andthe ginger one ,
Well , he was so cocky with it . Like I’d walked into his house unannounced
