True, I could use a USB-C hub. I was just trying to save on costs especially when it was explained to me that these can be daisy chained (which was wrong) but I think even a hub would still affect the data transfer rates. In hindsight, I'm actually grateful they weren't daisy chained because I only expect the size of my farm to be 1 PB. Thankfully, I have enough USB ports to support that where I don't have to daisy chain.
I don't see why not especially when I was initially planning on using Ubuntu instead of Windows. However, ultimately, I ended up sticking with Windows because the VM's performance was very poor with the resources I set aside for the plotting environment. If Ubuntu was natively installed instead, this probably would have been a different story.
