- I have been looking for near-line storage, something that could hold multiple hard drives, be easy to use and be affordable. I have found a solution in the Sabrent Five Bay USB-C docking station. So let's take a look at this giant hard drive docking station with 5 bays. What it does is connect your hard drives to your computer, there's no computer logic in this machine, it is just a holder of the drives with each being able to be mounted on your desktop.

Thank you for the fantastic review. Compared to other reviewers who only talked about the product but not even turning on and showcasing the features and workings, your review is much more informative! Superb review.🥳
by the way, did anyone tell you that you that you did excellent review on this product, you covered all of its features. You explained what they do, and you went a little deeper in explaining what it is like to actually use this device in comparison to some other products on the market and the idiosyncrasies that they have when using them, I'm basically talking about the operation of having drives in the unit and how the fan responds... It sounds like you have the experience with these kinds of units. There are a lot of drive bay units where the fan is running all the time regardless of what the drives are doing. Anyways, that was great coverage. You also explained the USB-C ports. And the optional cables. Showing the speed tests was excellent, and you explained the typical throughput. I just like all the things you covered. Great job. Though I did have one question that did occur in my thinking was, does this unit except 2.5 inch drives. I know it's typical usage is the traditional 3.5" hard drive and that will be my usage in this case. But I do have some 2.5 inch drives. not to mention the possible future of putting solid-state drives in the unit. I will look this product up to find this out. But overall a very, very well thought out and very explanatory of this product. 🙂😍😎
Great video. Very good presentation and speaking voice. This was the review i was looking for!
Incredibly excellent video, thank you so much! Liked & Subscribed
Excellent detailed review. Thank you!
Great review, thanks you!
Amazing review 👏
Pretty awesome. Ill look into buying one of them. Thx Alan!!
Glad you liked it.
Awesome video !
Thanks 🙏🏻
I bought on of these so I could expand the number of drives that make up my Plex Server. I'm using a couple 8TB WD Red Plus drives that had originally become too small and were replaced with 12TB drives internally to the server. So with this enclosure I was able to repurpose a couple 8TB WD Red Plus drives to expand the number of avalable drives. I have had it operational for about a month now with no problems.
I got it for my Plex Server as well; I’ll be using it with Stablebit Drivepool; i have yet to install my drives
How's u finding it . I'm looking on getting one but see people moaning about fan noise
Can the fan be replaced with something more expensive and quiet?
@@Qibbles I would say that it could be replaced with one from say Nactua, you would have to confirm that the dimensions were the same and the wiring. I haven't really noticed a noise issue with mine, but I only have two drive bays filled right now. Plus I have it in an unoccupied room so the only time I hear it is when ever I transfer files up to those drives.
Good review Thank you for sharing it with us!😎JP
Hi! Thanks for the video! Does the enclosure pass S.M.A.R.T commands tot he drives so you can check health metrics in crystal disc info or such like ?
You deserve my "like" Sir, thanks!
Thank you for the video.
Big Like for covering everything
Can you provide a link to this specific product? Want to make sure I’m looking at the right one. Thanks!
Hello Alan, could you please tell me which operative system do you have in your mac? I have Catalina and it give me problems with this docking station. When i plug it to another mac with High Sierra it works perfect.
On mac: When a disk goes to sleep or is unmounted, can you mount it back or do you need to physically push the button?
Thank you for your good video, where can I find one like this?
How to plug ssd? Is there any adapter trays?
can you set it up in a way where the computer registers the drives as one single large drive?
up to how manny T B can accomodare per drives?
Do the drives power back up if there is a power loss - restore event? That would be kinda important if you intend to use it for NAS storage.
Do you have to turn off the hard drive manually each time you power off your PC or does it work like any other external hard drives where it stops running when your PC is off?
Not every hard drive shuts down with the computer. This one advertised that it goes into standby when computer is switched off. Yottamaster for example keeps running 24/7 if not switched off.
How good is it for video streaming ?
after a view weeks of occasional usage slot 4 refuses to mount drives. The LED stays red, the inserted HD isn't recognised/mounted. The same HD mounts just fine in all other bays. Are there any known issues there like? Is there a trick to get it back to normal?
You need to contact company support or service for such things.
are the compatible with gaming consoles im not gonna use it like that im just wondering
Disks can go on Sleep or something to keep all the disks 24/7 ?
For some reason my drive suddenly stopped appearing. I don't see it in the Disk Management either. Anyone had this issue?
I bought this a few days ago. Pretty straight forward indeed, but I think the fan is way too loud! does anyone know if you can switch it off. Or is there a software patch for that??
You can change the fan but you will have to unscrew and made the change yourself. Might void the warranty though.
Hi, in case of a power loss and my UPS runs out of battery, will the Sabrent dock remember which drives were on or off when the power is restored?
I dont think it has to i think all the drives still work individually as individual external drives so just once u get power turn on the one you need
how about RAID? How can we set that up?
I like how you explained the difference to a NAS and the docking station. I would have liked to know what type of drives it could take - EIDE/SATA/other. A few of us have the older drives and if I could switch to the SSDs I would...
for Sabrent 5 Bay Enclosure non Raid
Do the drives sleep when left idle?
Yes, the drive sleep when idle.
There is not a 3.2 gen 2 (type c) enclosure yet?(20Gbps..)or the hdds are not capable of that data speed?
No, HDD's are not fast enough on their own.
@@frugalfilmmakers thanks..
Can those blue lights be turned off?
what is the model number
is there a version of this for only ssd's?
While not exactly the same thing, I have two of the Sabrent DS-4SSD enclosures and they worked fine for me (I use Linux but it should work for all operating systems).
So it can't read 4k videos?
Thank you, because the manual needs improvement.
it to bad that you didn't talk about the cooling cooling system.
Can I access these drives on my phone or tablet?
Why should you … it works like any other hard disk for your computer. You put 5 drives in and plug it to your computer. Its no network drive. As always you must either connect your mobile to your computer or use a cloud to access files.
Great review but the price of this external HDD bay is just crazy. 340€ for a simple metal enclosure with no hardware RAID capabilities is a joke as it costs like a middle range motherboard.
Not really … its 5-bays … many cheaper ones have a pretty poor quality, are less versatile and/or have less features. Sabrent usually is more expensive than competitors. You wanna pay less choose cheap ones. You do not have to buy this one. Similar to 8 or 10 bay ones … you can get them for 300-350£, but also 600-800£.
$279.99 on Amazon, with no drives.
They never come with drives … its just the enclosure … this price is useless if you are not US based as it does not include tax. With import tax its most likely the same as here 350£.
If we are watching this video we probably know what a hard drive is and how it works lol
