I believe EV is the future, but I find it funny when growth stats are given in percentages. If you sold 5 units last year and 20 units this year, you can claim 300% growth. It sounds amazing until you see the units sold.
It is kind of like all the media reports of Tesla market share shrinking in the EV space, but they have setting sales records and the EV market has grown.
I believe by 2028 it will be clear commercial semi on down to consumer vehicles, EV will be choice for many more buyers and odds are retail price for an EV will be equal or less that an UCE option before any government rebates.
What's happening right now is automakers are claiming growth by comparing a better year to a bad year. We may have already seen peak auto.
WGN News reports that EV drivers struggle to keep batteries charged amid winter freeze! They called it a "lot full of dead robots" leaving owners stranded by the dozens. ICE, ICE for me baby.
@@snookmeister55 We're waiting for them to build cheap EVs.
The falling EV market share is a fallacy to discredit the growing EV market. By separating the ICE and EV markets but not addressing the fact the EV market is growing fast. The US will lag Europe / China but even the US will convert almost completely in 20 to 30 years (new sales).
Stellantis us not US company
Stellantis is probably going to switch as much production to Mexico as possible to escape the UAW contract costs.
Lets hope so,
And China
If they could, they would have with or without a UAW contract. Cutting costs is the holy grail for all US businesses. Saying/implying that paying workers will put companies out of business, make their products 'too' expensive, or cause companies to head overseas is just the corporate BS that we have been fed for the last 50 or so years.
American unions are fairly corrupt, and create inflexible workforces. I don't know anyone who works in manufacturing that thinks unions are helpful to the success of a manufacturing business. Manufacturing unions are dying in the USA, and we have lost i would guess about 80% of our total manufacturing base. My dad was a manufacturer, and he saw the Chinese undercut his business till it disappeared. He paid his workers well above the going rate to keep good people. The bean counters & MBA's ruin many a company so i am not blaming workers.@@who2u333
It’s really amazing how many people hate unions when they do nothing but good things for American working class people!
new COO will send more product to Mexico. yay UAW!!!
Kindness is always free, The Highlander😊
A very interesting book on the lithium-ion battery and the electric car titled "Long Hard Road" has all kinds of details on the numerous people over many decades who made contributions to the state of the art today.
One key person who had a major influence and received a Nobel Prize for lithium-ion batteries named John Goodenough had come to the conclusion that solid-state batteries are the correct type of battery for EVs.
People investing in solid-state batteries may be on to something.
Yes , they are. The main problem with SS batteries is that they have a high degeneration rate, in other words too few recharging cycles. They have these two advantages, very fast charging, and more safe than lithium, and more environmental friendly materials.
MIT Technology Review Magazine seems to agree with this outlook.
John Goodenough still works and has a succession team. Tesla supports their research.
@@snookmeister55
A Google search shows John Goodenough passed away on 6/25/2023.
Goodenough's patents were used to delay EVs in the US. Tesla was the only one willing to pay the nuisance tax. China got so far ahead in EVs because they ignore IP so he patent holder gave chinese companies formal exceptions for domestic chinese products. Those patents all expired in 2021, so that problem is over with. Goodenough is no hero because of how his patents were used to prevent western companies from using the technology.
Nice little Jeep, er, Mahindra Thar, there at 3:55.
Stellantis is literally burning the bridge at both ends over here in USA
Isn't it about time for Chrysler to be sold again?
Foxconn is also the assembly partner behind Ceer Motors of Saudi Arabia I believe... That one should not be under estimated going forward considering their goal to become the #1 regional EV maker in MENA but also its potential for future other start up carmakers looking to partner up...
The car brand will be dubbed Ceer using components from BMW provided under license.
When I take propane and fuel cell technology combine them together 🤔
Propane vehicles are banned from underground parking garages.
UAW is no friend to EV's.
“Cummins to Recall 600,000 Diesel Ram Trucks Following $2 Billion Emissions Penalty”
With luck it is a software only fix. Looks like they may have OTA working.
@@danharold3087and how many Ram owners will bring them in for the recall if they don’t have to?
@2:42 They can achieve this in three ways: (I hope they choose the first,)
1) through a stock split and let *Musk* achieve his ends by _raising_ the value of the company,
2) giving him more ownership through some form of a buyback scheme,
3) issuing more stock or issuing another class of stock.
The writing is on the wall that Mexico will be the dominant auto producing country in the Western Hemisphere.
If India wants a Chinese-level auto industry it's going to need to create a Chinese-level playing field for all automakers who invest in the nation... You can rarely advance any nation in isolation...
Amusing that legacies on one hand claims EV demand is down - rather than just demand for their own lazy compliance lines - while at the same time showing that EVs are the main reason they have vehicle growth this year, while their ICE lines actually were down.
Hopefully Daimler - and BMW covered in last episode - will get the hint and focus better on its EV programs, while dumping the BS side shows such as Hydrogen and Synth Fuel distractions that some legacies are goofing off with.
Why was he fired? Sometimes you just don't like someone.
Stellantis has been killed in China and has record inventory in the USA - that's all I know about it.
The $2 billion settlement for their own version of diesel gate.
A month ago, he had battery swapping plans for Fiat e500. Now, they've played off thousands of Fiat workers. Stellantis is in trouble, I believe. Record high inventory in the USA and customers are no longer willing to pay sky high prices.
Just a few months ago, the fired CEO bragged about Stellantis margins, which shows how well Legacy companies can predict the future.
Using percentages is BULL. So they made almost 300% more vehicles,,,from 3 to 12...big deal.
$70k to &100k for some work van that only only goes 200 miles? Yeah, okay.
What do you mean, only? Do you think they bid on projects that are 3000 miles away? 200 miles is several days getting to and from the job site.
When an auto executive gets fired. The next step is closing factories.
They've already severed a lot of employees.
A new COO is a good idea and hopefully the Chrysler and Dodge brands will grow. The fact that no Americans run the company now may be the continued downfall.
American CEOs have no trouble bankrupting auto companies. Why do we still include Stellantis in the “big 3” anyway.
Your report about Elon and Tesla is incorrect. Elon currently has about 13% of Tesla in stock but has about 10% stocks waiting to vest from his 2018 plan. Those stocks vest over 5 years so he still needs to wait to own them. Combined he will have 23% even without any new compensation plan. Also, most Tesla investors would be more than happy to give Elon a new compensation plan as it’s tied heavily into operational goals AND stock market value. It’s very likely it will target the combined market value of Apple and Aramco combined - ie $5T or so. Of course, most people would say it’s ridiculous and would never happen - but they said the same thing about his 2018 plan which he achieved in 3 years (out of the 10 year plan). Anyhow, if he does not achieve it, no harm done, if he does, all Tesla investors would be ecstatic.
Most people forget (or don't know) that Musk started with basically nothing. After quitting Stanford he had $100k student loan debt, and he and Kimbal lived in their one-roomed office, showering at the YMCA, and eating cheap-n-nasty takeaways as they had no cooking facilities. They shared the couch for sleeping, one night Elon, the next Kimbal.
Since then (from virtually nothing) he has built some of the world's most valuable companies and made thousands of people much wealthier, moved the needle on many technologies and utterly disrupted many established (and often corrupt) industries and institutions.
So... he's taken us on an incredible (and for many, a very profitable) journey - so I'm with him all the way (my tiny stake in Tesla is worth over 20x what I paid for it back in 2017/18).
IF Elon exercises options, he'll pay taxes on the stock, just like he did when he bought Twitter. He won't end up with all the stock so your numbers are wrong.
As soon as you sell one Tesla stock, its value goes downhill. That valuation is just some kind of bubble.
@@mrandersson2009 it fluctuates a lot because there's a lot of growth built in. It's crazy a company is growing so fast and attacking multiple industries. It's definitely not worth the current value but I'm sure it will be later this decade.
Thank God Elon Musk is a good person and not evil like Sorros and others.
😂😂😂
Musk sets near impossible targets with ridiculous payouts... and the shareholders share in the impossible spoils too.
Tesla is not a car company! They are a political & economic machine for the elite.
Bossman going to quit because of lazy shareholders! The best CEO is no CEO! $andy Munro first principles!
😂
T....a would be better off without the "Techno Geek" screwing up their progress.
@@russh6414 If Bossman left, who would employ the Diversion Team?
@@russh6414Nonsense. Tesla would still sell 100 roadsters to the rich every year. Space-X would not even exist and Boring would only be the wet dream of many construction engineers.
Go Elon: Show the world how to make us better.
I guess the SEC would not like that.
Well done Lambo!
algorithm
Hey what about all of the dead Teslas in Chicago? The cold weather basically kills an EV......
Yeah, those Teslas charge slow unless you precondition the battery to warm it up. That's not "killing".
My car wouldn't start today either. I went out and got a new battery.
Elon said "Voting Control". I can understand creative people wanting more control over their work.
The engineers and scientists seeking work at Tesla are not attracted by the BOD.
Elon got duped on the Twitter deal he knows it, we know it. Move on.
A CEO blackmailing his own board? Yep, that’s Elon for you. If he didn’t squander billions on X he wouldn’t have this problem.
No one but fools who know nothing believe Elon is trying blackmail. If you took the time to read his posts about it you would see he’s only interested in aging voting share of 25%.
There are a few ways to do it.
The BOD and Elon can’t move forward until the previous compensation package is ruled on in the Delaware courts.
As soon as that is decided the new comp plan can begin to take shape.
You're probably suffering from STED. Take it easy
Maybe new Stellanus CEO will be pro EV? Doubtful.
Stellantus just layed off thousands of their EV workers - see Fiat e500
@@snookmeister55the classic Fiat 500e was a good car, looks like the new one is pretty nice, but I'm generally unimpressed w Stellanus
Those electric vans have no chance in terms of functionalty against any ICE vans. Come on Autoline, stop feeding us your Koolaid.
For an electric van with that range to be competitive against an ICE one, it has to:
- be cheaper than the ICE counterpart
- very fast to charge (swappable batteries might be the only real solution)
The advantages you see in ICE are short lived.
Fleet owners look at maintenance and fuel costs. There are plenty of uses where an EV makes a lot of sense.
I’m disappointed, not a word about the dozens of Teslas stranded because of the cold?
I'm disappointed you fell for that story. 🤭
@@BTC_Minarchist Oh and what was it then? Elon’s winter camp? Enlighten me
Yeah. Where? fake news.
Certainly no ICE cars were stranded, right?
Shocking non-news: people are bad at winter driving and cars don't like cold. My ICE car is parked in my garage and I'm not planning on touching it until temps are ~15 degrees higher. The roads are still frozen over anyway.
@@ordinaryhuman5645 That’s a pitiful excuse, truth is EVs can’t handle cold, neither Elon’s fabulous superchargers, but dishonesty runs strong among fanboys. An ICE can pump gas and run no matter the cold, EVs become useless
Is Musk giving himself an excuse to leave Tesla before it suffers sales losses to other manufacturers?
To be fair, Tesla would be much better off with a real auto exec in charge that can move the company forward and broaden its product line.
If he is, as people say, working w/o a contract what hold does Tesla have on Elon. He could say I am done tomorrow.
@@danharold3087Musk may not be the smartest person, but I don't believe he would 'work' without any form of contract or legal agreement.
@@davidmccarthy6061 Your kidding! Look at the 'real' auto companies in the US. Do you want that for Tesla?

Elon has made so many people wealthy that even the idea of him leaving is unimaginable. He should get whatever he wants to push Tesla to a multi trillion company. Andrej Karpathy described how important of a role he plays in connecting the dots between all the startups at Tesla. The most passionate engineers will follow Musk imo and he has all the leverage
Bullshit!
@@brunoheggli2888Very eloquent Brüno. You let your original Swiss intelligence shining through. Embarassing.
Yes, if i am the BOD i would buy back stocks up to 25.1% and give the difference to Elon.
Musk is trying to boost the stock price, just by opening his mouth.
Bossman needs to fire the lazy shareholders! Cathie you're fired!
Well duh. Of course Stellantis canned his arse. Corporations and Investors see employees are moochers and unworthy. Only the idle rich deserve to make more money.

Musk needs more Tesla stock to fill the holes at Twitter/X.
Elon's sales used to fund Twitter totaled approximately $23 billion, representing between 3% and 4% of his total Tesla holdings at the time. This does not come close to what he is asking for. Note that he said they it is the control he wants.
